Classic British horror directed by Roy Ward Baker. After a philandering young artist goes missing, his brother Simon (Dennis Waterman) and girlfriend Sarah (Jenny Hanley) discover that he was last seen heading for Castle Dracula. When they investigate they are greeted by the Count (Christopher Lee) and made welcome for the night. However, it's not long before Dracula's manservant Klove (Patrick Troughton) warns Peter to get Sarah away from his master before something terrible happens to her... studio canal no uncut version why
why did studio canal bring out the uncut version of this film in 4k dracula drinking the blood of the vampire woman patrick troughton seems out of place in this film and should not have been in it as clove he looks to scruffy looking the clove in dracula prince of darkness is clean and tidy and spoils the film a bit at least dracula is in the film a lot not like the 1958 version

Wait for a price reduction (given it's not a limited release)
It's certainly not a film to get very excited about anyway, but i was expecting a touch more heft with such a box set. In particular the extras could have been far better curated. Painfully limited extras, the only thing worth absorbing here being the audio commentary, thankfully featuring Christopher Lee and Roy Ward Baker (Director). There is a degree of honesty within some of the extras, in particular aknowledging that it is a rather flimsy film, which I admired, however within a similarly flimsy selection of extras. It really is a pity, for a 4k release, we don't at the very least get a couple of extra commentries. They could have done a modern one with some film historians and critics, as done in other releases. What a blow. Wait for a price reduction! The 4k transfer is pretty decent though, as much as I never had this on Blu-ray, I would suspect it's not a lot different. However, there is enough fine tuning to make things apparent that you'd rather not be apparent. Okay, so the bats weren't particularly believable at any point in time, but the stings are much easier to see, in addition, the burning Dracula at end is very clearly covered, face and all in protective materials, going so far as becoming little more than a burning scarecrow at the end. Unfortunately high def, in this case, makes the set seem a lot more like a stage play set, and people, during nastier moments, showing obvious painted and blobbed on gore effects. It was better when these aspects werent so imediately clear. It's a not bad not good kind of thing, though, at this price leaning a little more towards bad.

as I have never seen this film before a great one
Well have never ever seen this film at all. It starts of a bit slow but soon speeds up and a reasonably good story line to boot, A lot of the stars in the film went on to bigger parts later, like the man servant who is a doctor who star, and Dennis water-man who was later to be a big name on the TV. Some of the bats one could see being bounced around while on elastic but again for it's time was good.

I had been concerned that it would not play in the USA. I hadn't noticed that there was a warning about that before I purchased it. It took a long time to arrive by USPS snail mail, but I use PowerDVD 23 and it translates European DVDs just fine. This concludes the Christopher Lee/ Hammer Dracula collection for me and I couldn't be happier.

Would have given this seller a zero if that option was available. We cannot play this DVD here in the US. Nothing in the advertisement mentioned a locked country code. Sending back! What a disappointment!!!
