Excellent flavoured alternative for dogs reluctant to take potassium citrate medication
Excellent product. Our little Brussells Griffon Archie had 2 surgeries for calcium oxalate stones in 2023/24. The second surgery revealed stones so severe in number that several were left too deeply embedded within his abdomen to remove safely. He needed a direct surgical opening from his bladder to enable him to pass water, his urethra was so badly congested no liquid could pass, despite flushing from both ends. Archie was placed onto a prescription only diet with potassium citrate liquid to maintain his urine pH, and coamilozide tablets. The vet impressed upon us the importance of avoiding all treats / commercial foods due to the damage and risk they might pose to Archie in forming new stones, or increasing the size of those left behind following his surgery. The liquid potassium citrate in particular made his mealtimes miserable, we tried many different methods to get him to take the food, put the medicine underneath, mixed it into the food, sometimes heโd reject it altogether and go hungry, after 3 years he was really struggling, and developed anxious behaviours around mealtimes which was very distressing for him, and us, we felt cruel giving him what mustโve been disgusting potassium citrate laden sour prescription food. It was a constant worry to make sure he got his vital doseages. I had seen this product online and wondered whether it would be suitable for Archie as it is a compounded flavoured version of the same medication. I put it in my Amazon basket. When Iโd enquired at the vets previously about tablet versions or less harsh tasting medicine for him we were told no he must have the liquid medication itโs not available in any other form. At a routine check up visit for him, we enquired again with a new vet about the possibility of a compounded medication. She looked up their suppliers, and found this supplement, the one I had in my Amazon basket, and said itโs perfectly suitable for Archie.โs condition. She helped us with the conversion from liquid to tablet dosage so we were able to easily measure and adjust correctly for him . It was like a blessing from heaven. Archie began initially regarding his food with the usual suspicion / avoidance. By the end of the first week he was inhaling his food. I think the liver flavouring may have actually improved the overall flavour of the food generally! The relief he showed, and we felt was fantastic, we really felt weโd improved Archies quality of life after having gone through so much due to his condition. At last he could enjoy his food!!! We already had pH sticks and a refractometer to check Archieโs urine pH and Specific Gravity measurements to ensure he was within tolerance and his kidneys werenโt struggling, so checked him after beginning the Vet K-Cit-V and all his levels were fine. It was obviously doing its job and very effective. We were beyond delighted, and so was Archie who became much more relaxed and playful, getting newfound comfort from his food minus the foul bitter tasting medicine heโd been given, with no alternatives for over 3 years. We were all delighted, none moreso than Archie himself. Canโt recommend highly enough, best advice I would give would be to ensure this is suitable for your pet by discussing with your vet prior to trying it, and to get them to give you the correct dosage to ensure your pet is getting sufficient active ingredient to match their medication.

My Dog Loves These
I wasnโt sure what to make of these when I first opened the bottle. They look like oversized pills and I wondered how I was supposed to give them to my tiny Cavalier King Charles. I did not have to wonder for long, however, because as soon as my dog smelled them, she came running to try one. She absolutely loves them, and although I purchased them for the health benefits, I now use them as a treat for her. I like them because they seem to be excellent quality, perform well, and were a great value for the money!

I'd like to tell people who own dogs that have been ...
I normally don't write reviews, however, I'd like to tell people who own dogs that have been diagnosed with Calcium Oxalate bladder/kidney stones, this product (along with proper diet - can't stress enough) has cured my dog of all stones, proven through x-ray, in my 13 year old ShihTzu. It was astonishing to see they were gone - she was able to pass them - and most importantly - not form new ones by adding one tablet twice per day. This is against all odds - I've been repeatedly told this condition is incurable and will have to be surgically removed every few years to avoid this excruciating painful disease. (She had expensive surgery to remove at 5 years of age.). Vet K-Cit-V has kept my pet free of stones for the past 8 years. This product is a Godsend. A must if your pet has Calcium Oxalate stones!

Works great to prevent calcium oxalate stones would highly recommend!
I started getting these two yrs ago for my now 12 yr old schnoodle. He had to undergo surgery for his calcium oxalate bladder stones. They removed at least 30 stones. I must say these are amazing he has not had any stones in over two yrs. he is 45 pounds and the bottle recommends 1 per ten pound but he only needs three. I used testing strips to see how acidic his urine was to decide how many to give him. The vet also put him on a low protein diet with no dry food. The health science food was what she recommended but we went with reg canned food not prescription and everything seems to b fine. So all in all I would defiantly recommend these if ur dog is experiencing calcium oxalate bladder stones due to high acidic urine.

Dog is needs these and is tolerating them. He wouldn't touch the prior brand we purchase.
Using to eliminate crystals in our small dog's urine and for kidney health. Will know how well these are working in next urinalysis in 2 wks. Got these to replace the Potassium Citrate Plus Cranberry by Pala Tech because our dog didn't like the cranberry taste of those and it was such a chore to get him to ingest them. Pills are big and we need to crush them into powder and put it in his food to get him to eat them. He still doesn't like his food as much, but at least he'll eat it. Much easier/less stressful to get him to take this Potassium Citrate without the cranberry.

Works as stated
Needed Potassium Citrate for my dog to increase the pH of his urine and hopefully bond to the calcium oxidate crystals. The pills are handy because if you are trying to find the correct dosage you can grind them up in a mortar and pestle and use a "jeweler's" scale to get the right amount. For example Ted is 14 lb terrier. I give him 1.8g three times a day ~6AM, 2pm, 9 pm. I measure out a bunch in some old spice jars for a couple of days in advance. That keeps him in a pretty balanced space. As the other reviewers noted, just need pH strips to adjust. All of the other options are prescription and pretty expensive.
