Replacement for Google-Chromecast-Remote, for Chromecast Google TV Remote

I bought this remote to replace my original Chromecast remote, but it was disappointing from day one. The buttons felt cheap and would stick, causing the cursor to scroll or jump across the screen on its own. It was frustrating to use and never operated the way it should. After only five months of normal use, the volume button failed completely. Based on my experience, this appears to be a quality control issue rather than normal wear and tear. A replacement remote should last far longer than this. I expected much better reliability and would not recommend this product.

Device LOOKS like a good replacement for the Google remote. The buttons are all in the same spot as a Google remote. The setup process was fairly straightforward, but that's about all the good things I can say. The volume up button never worked (Volume down and power worked - so it wasn't an issue of properly pairing to the TV). Over the time, we found that we had to press harder and harder on the left, right, & menu buttons just to get them to respond. - to the point where within 3 weeks we broke down and bought an actual Google branded remote. In general, I feel like a remote control has one primary job - send a signal when I press a button so I don't have to walk to the TV to press that button - This remote miserably failed at that one job.

This remote sucks. I was thrilled to get a replacement for the awful apple tv remote, at first. But having lived with it for a few days it has some glaring flaws. The main problem I have with this remote is that there is no way to control the power, on or off, of the apple tv itself. It has a nice big power button on it. Don't let this fool you. This button controls the TV (LG in my case) only and not the Apple TV. If I want to turn on the apple tv, it turns on the tv, which in turn controls the power of the apple tv via hdmi cec. If I want to turn off the apple tv, without turning off the tv, there is no way to do so. Normally, with the original remote, I would press the button and hold it. It comes up with a menu, which I then select power off. The button which looks similar on this remote doesn't activate that menu when I hold it down. Neither does any other button on it. Also, I am not convinced it is not controlling the apple tv through hdmi cec, which any universal remote or even the remote on your tv, can do. All in all not worth even the low price it sells for.

Beware: As mentioned in a few other reviews that I failed to take note of before purchasing (totally my fault), this remote stupidly mirrors back functionality for the Back button and the Menu button (spelled "Meun" on the instructions). There is no way to override in the Apple TV remote learning settings. I am setting it to return as I type this because it is as useful as a wet sock.

DOES NOT COME WITH COMPLETE STARTUP INFORMATION. They state that the easiest way to program the remote is by looking through the list of codes and entering the one you need for that device, but they do not provide the list. There is an auto pair option but, even though I could get it to sync to my tv well enough to turn it off or on, it was useless. The home button opened up a sidebar menu, the back/exit button popped up a sign that said button doesn't work, and every other button either didn't work or did something way out of left field that it shouldn't. I have an LG tv and it says this remote should have been super easy to pair. That is obviously not true or mine was defective.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! The fact that it states no programming needed and works right out of the box is BS! FYI, when you do get it programmed, the volume button works for the channel and it only works for a second and then it doesn’t work and then you have to go through the steps all over again save your damn money buy something better!

I just returned the second pair. The TV does not respond when a button is pushed, unless I push it again, and harder. I hear clicks, but no action. That's four. I had a Roku Stick I purchased for my aunt, but she could not use it. So, I hooked it up and the response is great. Since I could not find a 2nd remote for the other Roku device, I tried to find a second Stick remote for my wife. They are not available. So, I bought a second Roku Stick, thinking the remote would work for the Stick I already had. Does not, so I'm returning the new Stick. I searched for a new Roku that came with two remotes, but no luck. New remotes work, though poorly for the old Roku, why wouldn't a new Stick remote work with an already in use Roku Stick. I don't get it. So, for now, my wife will have to get up to get my Stick remote to operate the TV when I'm not around. I sure would like a solution.

Some of the buttons do not function the same way as the original Apple remote does. In some cases the button does what it’s supposed to do, however, depending on what app you are working with the button doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do. At first, I thought it was my fault, but it turns out that every button on the remote does not work the same as the Apple remotes buttons. The instructions have no indication of which button would substitute. I do understand that this remote does not offer some of the advanced features like talk to text, however, that function was not important to me. I just wanted a remote that replaced the thumb pad with an easier to use selection button and had the same physical button as my Apple remote. So this remote ends up being worthless to me because I need to keep my original Apple remote to use when the button on this remote doesn’t work properly. I mostly wanted this because the thumb pad on my older Apple Remote is difficult to use when selecting items. This remotes selection add would sell for this problem, except that the enter button doesn’t always trigger what you selected. It’s past my return window so these will go in the trash and I’ll try another product.

Junk. Didn't work for the Roku Express

Look it isn't the same as the original Google one, but when that goes through the wash, what can you do! We ended up with 2 as 2 remotes for different tvs broke at the same time. Still working years later!
