Great PH meter for liquids - read if you formulate creams
I use this meter for cosmetic formulation. It’s accurate for water-based solutions, but if testing viscous creams, conditioners, especially anything cationic (formulas with BTMS, CETAC, etc.): the meter will often freeze at pH 3.9 no matter what you do. This happens because the probe is being coated and losing contact with the sample. Solution: Always test a 1 : 10 dilution with distilled water. After use, rinse with water and soak 10 min in 1 : 1 vinegar + water and store in KCl solution. Calibrate once a week. Once you follow the steps, readings should be accurate. It’s a good tool, but requires some maintenance for creamy products. Without proper cleaning, it looks like every batch is pH 3.9 which might waste a lot of your time and calibration buffer solution troubleshooting.

Aquarium and House Plant -- Water Testing
I bought this as a replacement/upgrade of some other cheap brand. This was a good decision as the quality was significantly better. Furthermore, the included directions were more informative than the item that I previously purchased

Accurate. Worth every penny @
This is the most I've ever spent on a ph pen. I'm so glad I bought this Apera pen. I have been watching Doctor Bruce Bugbee online (the guy who also is part of Apera instrument company) , and really admire his vast knowledge of certain vegetation. I figured if anyone could make a ph he could. I was pleasantly surprised! It even adjust automatically for temperature . It came in a very sturdy case with three calibration solutions, and solution for keeping the probe submerged in. Also had a 4 vial stand to keep the perfect amount of ph solutions. My vegetables are really reflecting the accuracy of this pen! Just get you one!

Accurate and easy to use
The unit functions great and is accurate. I was disappointed when it stopped calibrating one day, so I read the troubleshooting steps, one of which said to soak it in the 3M KCL storage/soaking solution. I was previously storing it in reverse osmosis water and didn't even realize it came with some KCL storage/soaking solution until I looked through my things. So I soaked in the KCL for a day, and viola, that fixed the issue.

Spend the $$$ once and be done with it -
I have bought several of the cheaper PH pens and after several months of use, it has to be recalibrated and that process is not easy. The ph readings are inaccurate and eventually I get another cheap one. Well, over the weekend, I needed to check the ph of one of my aquariums. I pulled out the latest ph pen I had, though it was working properly. It was not working. I went ahead and ordered this Apera PH tester. What a joy to use and calibrate. I should have bought in the beginning and I would not have to go through frustrating situations when I needed to get the accurate ph reading. Well worth the cost.

Meter must be kept moist.
These PH meters are supposed to have water in the cap they must be kept moist. When I received it, it had zero water in the cap. This is why it would not calibrate properly or read properly. I am returning item.

Be delicate and patient and you should have no issues.
Value is for sure the main factor. I have used it for a few months on a every couple of days basis and it's worked wonders. Only calibrated once upon arrival and once after 50-75 uses. I wish the sensors were replaceable just in case something ever did happen BUT I suppose that's fair due to the price in relation to the next model up. I use mine for plant feeding and I use very little nutrients or additives with reverse osmosis water and I would advise you be patient for the reading and giving it a minute or two to stabilize. I've only needed to do this with reverse osmosis water because of I believe the lack of particles in the water for a more prompt/accurate reading. This is fair and mentioned in the manuals also. In those situations a little shake and wait for it settle is wise. I know it's not due to the meter because before and after reverse osmosis water tests if I put the pen into PH 7.0 test solution it's almost instantly reading exactly 7.0. I love the test rack it comes with because you can reuse sooooo much of the test solutions. As novel as it looks and not of potential value to some but I found it to be of massive value because of the test solution cost savings but furthermore, mostly because the tray is perfectly fitted for the knock of the test pen and holds it in very stable positions. It also feels that it's weighted just right once the chambers have some solutions in the to hold the pen without hight likelihood of a tipping over test pen while in tray. I love the case it came with, very tidy and Profesional. My constructive feedbacks are (aka I wish it could or had this). -Backlight for digital display -Set desired PH target figure or PH desired range figure. Be notified on display or with audio once those set values are reached. More clear instructions on how to store both short term and long term without use to preserve sensors while not in use. Finally a spare washer or two for the pH pen and liquid sample capsule contact around the neck of the pen. (plastic seals can stretch a minute amount during use over time and possibly leak some of the storage solution provide. My only challenge with the order was that my storage solution cap was not well fastened and slowly dripped into the box and almost half the content was unfortunately lost. On a interesting side it appeared as though the solution leaking eventually dried and created a bond to the bottle and prevent added leaks and loss of product. Last but not least the black "fill" to line on the test liquid cup washes off promptly likely due to chemicals being tested. I used a piece of scotch tape to replicate the fill level line without it washing off again and resolved the challenge with ease. Summary, if you are good with unit and gently clean, store it right and be gentle then you have a very reliable, accurate and Profesional grade unit I would highly recommend.

Really excellent meter
... it is only accurate to 1 place of decimal. In other words, it shows 5.4 where other meters show 5.40. In my case I need the solution to be in a certain range, so the extra accuracy is not a big deal. Extremely easy to calibrate, and came with storage solution and 4.0, 7.0, and 10.0 calibration solutions. In 8 ounce bottles. Those alone are worth half what I paid for the meter. Also includes a 4-compartment dish for holding the calibration solutions and the meter. As someone who uses a pH meter all the time and has to calibrate it regularly, having all three solutions in one handy container is brilliant.

Solid pen
Excellent pen. Might be out 0.1 after a month of daily use but extremely easy to recalibrate and comes with calibration solution. Save yourself the $30 and get a good ph pen instead of buying the cheap pen than realizing you need a good pen
