NOYAFA NF-8506 Network Cable Tester with IP Scan, CAT5 CAT6 Ethernet Tester

Bought this tester for setting up a new network in my home intended to use it as a way to test all the cable runs I am having to make. However I decided to do testing at work while we were waiting to move. I am very Impressed buy this device. Using the continuity scan I was able to determine bad connections on 5 lines that would not work. Using the length measurement feature I was able to determine where the issue was on each line and which end to start from. The worst being a cable which said there was a break about 3ft in the line. Luckly this line was behind a panel and after removing it helped me to determin the line had been crushed when the panel was assembles. The scan function works very well and helped me identify many un-labeled ports so far. I have yet to try other features but that alone impressed me very much. I do wish it had the ability to plug in and receive a DHCP address to make it easy to determin what network a port is on but you can substiture ping or IP scan function to make that determination. Not the cheapest and not the most expensive, I must say it is worth the price I paid and now I may have to order another just for work.

I wanted a more feature rich network cable tester than the basic one I’ve used for years. This one does a great job. While I still mainly use the continuity feature, it’s nice having the other features built in. The battery has latest surprisingly long. It charges via USB-C and, despite using it multiple times over the course of multiple months, is still on its initial charge.

I have had many network and cable testers. I own two Fluke network testers. This is sporadic on a great day. Near worthless in the real world. I would NOT bet my paycheck on any of its functions. Sometimes functions work, sometimes they don't. Testing known open/shorted cables, does not show distance to fault. PoE tester works about 10% of the time - IF you power cycle it just before the test. Menus and setting not intuitive. Unable to set default units. "highlighted" menu items reverse what is expected. DHCP should be default. Scan network should default to same subnet. Open source the firmware and this could be a nice tester (possibly).

This is a great tool for every IT guy that has to deal with installing or troubleshooting cabling. It does the same as the more expensive 'yellow' brand. The only difference is that the yellow devices use only one connector for all functions and this one has four different ones for different functions, which can be a bit confusing sometimes, hence the 4 stars. It does indicate on the screen which connector to use, so that helps. The interface is a bit clunky, but once you get the hang of the buttons, it's not bad, so for the price, you can't beat it.

This thing has done great, I have had it for about a year now and it has never let me down. I use this tester for IT freelance work. The probe is a little wacky to use but it could just be user error; since the tester can flash the port lights Its been fine.

IP Scanner is locked to class C with /24 CIDR, making this function useless for anything bigger than your average SOHO network.

This helped me diagnose some network problems I was having at work and at home. All fixed now!

I'd do better to get a basic continuity checker. The other feature I bought this for, scanning, doesn't work well enough to be useful, at least compared to other tools I've used in this price range. The analog tone isn't powerful enough to be distinguished at the other end, and the digital scan signal doesn't work. I'd rate this one star as absolute garbage as an expensive continuity checker except the switch link speed test actually works. The two IP layer tests (ping and address scan) do not work at all either.

tengo una situacion con este producto actualmente apenas va a cumplir 4 meses, se ha usado poco realmente y el detalle es que ya se le va a termianr la bateria, le quedan 2 rayas de carga pero lo pongo a cargar y no se recarga la bateria, que aplica para estos incidentes?, se puso a cargar 1 hora primer, despues 4 horas y nada, luego se cargo con un cargador estandar y sigue sin cargar nada? que aplica en estos casos
