Hello, this filter media is made using premium polycarbonate. All sourced here in the U.S.
We only use polycarbonate, specifically nonwoven polyester polycarbonate (NWPP) because of its characteristics and structure making it ideal for face mask filters. 
Polypropylene is very air flow restrictive, making it difficult to breath, not a good choice for face mask filters, it should only be used if no polycarbonate material is available.

Polycarbonate is much more superior, specifically nonwoven polyester polycarbonate (NWPP) making it highly efficient Merv16 that blocks the tiniest particles up to 0.3 microns with low air flow resistance, this makes it a perfect filter material for face mask for all day comfort and easy to breathe through. What is the difference between your Merv 13 v Merv 16 if both have the same minimal filter particle size of 0.3 microns?

Merv13 means the filter will trap less than 75% of air particles from 0.3 to 1.0 microns. While Merv16 means the filter will trap 95% or more of air particles from 0.3 to 1.0 microns

Note that the manufacturer's own answer to this question (in which they claim 79% efficiency in the 0.3um-1um "E1" range) classifies this filter as MERV 14, not MERV 16.
