Learn to knit with these simple but stylish patterns for hats, scarves and home accessories Fiona Goble learnt to knit as a child, but she knows what it's like to be starting out - you have the yarn, you've bought the needles, but when you look at a knitting pattern, it all seems like gobbledygook. "Learn to Knit" will help you learn the basic stitches and how to read a pattern, as well as some simple techniques such as casting on and off, and increasing and decreasing. But once you've tried those, you'll want to actually make something. To make that simple, Fiona Goble has gathered together 25 great projects for you to try, all using only the stitches and techniques that you have just learned about. There are chunky scarves and cowls that knit up really quickly using big needles, beanies and bobble hats that can be made in a weekend, and bunting and a cushion cover that even a novice can knit in no time. So put those new skills to use and create a whole range of fantastic things to wear or for the home - once you start knitting, you won't want to stop. Review: Great book - So easy to follow. Not knitted for years and picked it up in minutes. Finishing my 2nd project already Review: Worth - This was easy to use for beginners. Very resourceful.

Good for the novice or as a refresher
I bought this book as a gift for a child wishing to learn to knit. I think it's a good book for a learner or as a refresher for someone returning to the craft after a long time. There are some good patterns and useful technically information. My one criticism is that the author is a British person, living in England, yet she has followed what seems to be a growing trend in knitting and crochet books by British authors, of putting the US terms first, some crochet books are even written wholly in US terms.

You'll actually stick with your new hobby! (But give those hats some melanated models w/4C hair)
I treated myself to a kids knitting kit (Curiosity Kids scarf) and had a fun first time experience that taught me nothing about reading patterns. So I struggled with what to do for my second project even though my ADHD enthusiasm had me wanting to buy up every supply for my new hobby. I debated getting this book- how interesting could beginner projects be and surely I could just check it out of the library? - but am so glad I did. Just looking over the first few pages taught me more than my intro kit or any YouTube videos had so far and the projects were so enticing- it definitely got my dopamine flowing! My favorite part is the small "skills needed" box at the start of each project- what a smart way of letting the novice knitter assess the right project for their current level! My only critique is regarding the photos- not all of the wearable projects are shown being worn- I don't want to see a capelet or hat just laying flat, I want to see it on. And the models are very homogenous- pale, thin, with wispy fine hair. How beautiful it would be to see diverse models- especially seeing the hats worn with different hair textures! This book helped me become a knitter instead of someone with a bunch of knitting supplies gathering dust. The book itself is a slim softcover, easily stashed with your supplies. I am so glad I bought rather than borrowed it. Enjoy!
