If Eddie Murphy's comic tone turns on a dime, Martin Lawrence can perhaps be described as sauntering around the dime, looking around to see if anyone else has seen it, then picking the dime up, pocketing it, and casually walking off. He lazily indicates his humour, as if it's too much trouble to actually make the joke--and that distance is what makes him funny. At his best, Lawrence describes a kind of comic space and wanders around in it, claiming it for himself the way a dog might mark his territory, suggesting that what you think is funny doesn't matter to him; he just happens to be where the jokes are, and if you aren't laughing, that's your problem. In Blue Streak , Lawrence plays a jewel thief who plants a stolen diamond in the ventilation duct of a building under construction. When he's released from prison a few years later, he discovers that the building is now a Los Angeles police station. His solution: he impersonates a detective. Of course, everyone believes his disguise. Not only that, using his inside knowledge, he solves several crimes and earns the general admiration of the force. It's a standard fish-out-of-water setup and the plot doesn't take any chances with the formula, but Lawrence wears his role like a loose suit and does a little low-key boogie whenever he can, drawing you into the absurdity with a cock of his head and a roll of his eyes. -- Bret Fetzer, desertcart.com Jewel thief Miles Logan (Martin Lawrence) has just been released from jail after a two year stretch for his involvement in the theft of a precious diamond. He stashed the jewel in a building that was still under construction. Unfortunately, in the intervening two years, a police station has been built on the site! Unfazed by this inconvenience, wise-cracking Miles decides to infiltrate the police force, pose as an officer of the law, and recover the jewel from its secret hiding place. On The Same Level As Bad Boys!
I thought it couldn't match Bad Boys.. I was wrong! A great movie with a funny plot of Miles (Martin Lawrence) impersonating a cop after he was sent to prison for doing a crime himself! hilarious, fun and has a good pace to it so you don't get bored.

Moronically funny!
Lets be under no illusions here, if Martin Lawrence gets on your nerves then it's very safe to suggest one stays away from this piece. His brand of comedy ranges from the pratfall antics of Jerry Lewis to the more vibrant delivery of someone like Richard Pryor, yet asking him to carry a movie on his own is still risky at best. He has achieved a level of success by having the knack to raise a laugh out of the most moronic of situations, and here in Blue Streak he milks it for all he is worth, and I personally find the film a good cure for the blues. Miles Logan (Lawrence) gets caught post a diamond robbery, luckily for him he has hidden the diamond in an air vent at a building that is under construction, unluckily for him tho, is that when he gets out of prison two years later, he finds that the building under construction is now a police station! This sets us up for the splendid plot of criminal wise cracker Logan having to fake being a police officer to hopefully get his hands back on the diamond! Naturally things don't go to plan and things steadily spiral out of control. The film is fun, it doesn't have an overlong running time, so with that the viewer doesn't feel a sense of too much Lawrence overacting, some solid support from Luke Wilson & William Forsythe adds to the merriment, and the action junkies are suitably catered for as well, so all in all a very solid 6.5/10 from me.

An Absolute Classic
Martin Lawrence heads not a well known cast but a fantastic one and makes the film so much more of a pleasure to watch. The plot is carefully and well planned out and integrates both seriousness of the crimes he commits and the trouble he gets into regarding drugs and the comedy of everything he does goes wrong. The film maes you feel sorry for Martin because of the trouble he has to go through but you love it when you realise what a good cop he turns out to be, and how much he enjoys it. THe film has a good and happy ending and it becomes one of the best and funnyest film made in a long time. Miss it Miss out!
