This action yarn was released in 1981 and was done in the style of the short cinema serial "cliff-hangers" of the 1930's and '40's, such as the FLASH GORDON action movie serials starring "Buster" Crabbe. Harrison Ford had already become world-famous in the first two of the original STAR WARS trilogy films when he took on the role of Dr. Indiana Jones, Professor of Archaeology at an Ivy League university. This is the mega-hit film which saved Paramount Studios from bankruptcy. After returning from an unsuccessful artifact hunt in the Amazon rain forest region of South America in 1936, Prof. Indiana Jones has been commissioned by the US Army and War Department to find and obtain the Biblical Ark of the Covenant, which they want because of the Ark's reputed destructiveness as a weapon of war. The Americans want to keep the find out of the hands of Hitler's Germany. The Nazis, with their own mercenary archaeologist, German troops and a sadistic Gestapo agent, are also racing to find the famous Hebrew relic. It's nonstop excitement, intrigue and adventure from start to finish. Look for the action sequence of an army truck briefly dragging Indy by his bullwhip. This is a tribute to a similar scene in John Ford's epic 1940 western "Stagecoach".

This is the best the film will look for a long time, and whether you agree with some changes or not, I think overall the 4K is a rousing success. A few fixes here and there on mattes and effects, new much needed sound mixing, and overall Indy has never fared better on home video. Some might note a few small issues with compression or quality in fixes, but really you have to be looking for them, and for the most part this a careful restoration more like Blade Runner's The Final Cut than anything else. Raiders looks superbly detailed, with a strong HDR presentation. Colors and shadows pop like never before. It's truly like seeing it for the first time on an OLED. Theaters obviously never quite saw it like this. HDR might even be too bright for some so tune it how you want. Outside of that they did a tremendous job on the sound. It no longer sounds hokey and panned and terribly mixed. The Atmos is beautiful, and the score resounds with good dynamics and much improved sound effects at least in parts. They still kept some of the cartoony bullet effects, but I think that was on purpose to keep the vibe of the serial nature in this series. So with a pretty good to perfect transfer, you can't go wrong here. Get them before they are gone. These steels are well worth it. There were more than a few damaged Raiders at Amazon, so be aware.

Bought this movie because I had not seen it in a while. It's the best in the series!

Raiders of the Lost Ark is great film from filmmaker's Steven Spielberg (Jaws) and George Lucas (Star Wars) bring Edge of your seat adventure story. Starring Harrison Ford (The Empire Strikes Back) as Indiana Jones famous archaeologist in quest to finding The Ark. Terrific action scenes and on location around the world. Now on glorious 4K is definitely a must to get.

This film has never looked better! Amazing 4k transfer.

Excellent film. It arrived completely undamaged, with no tears or broken casing. The slipcover is also included. The film's image quality is amazing. It was totally worth it.

El clásico de 1981 que inició una de las sagas mejor valoradas de todos los tiempos hace su debut en 4k, con Dolby Vision y Dolby Atmos para apreciar cada detalle (e incluso facción de Harrison Ford), así como el magnífico soundtrack, cortesía del Maestro John Williams. Si bien existe un paquete con toda la saga, el hecho de tener estos steelbooks con el arte original de portada le da un plus que se agradece, además de que por el precio, vale la pena conservar ambas ediciones. Llegó en excelente estado y sin daños. La imagen es muy buena y es una mejora correcta desde el blu-ray convencional. El audio en inglés Dolby Atmos es muy bueno, y trae español castellano y subtítulos en castellano e inglés, no trae opción de latino.

This movie plays perfectly images, sound and subtitles. Plays without freezing. I know that is not a new movie but it 's an action movie without so much violence. It is an excellent movie. I highly recommend this movie.
