easy set-up
I set the printer up using a USB connection. Printer did not come with the USB cable but I already had one. I downloaded the printer driver from the Cannon web site. Printed a test page with no problems. Printed a spreadsheet in Excel and all worked well. I did not set up as wireless as all the negative reviews were wireless setup problems. If I need to print from my phone I can always froward. I originally purchased a Brother printer which I returned. It was a nightmare to set up and never worked correctly.

Shame on Canon
Read the negative reviews - they're 100% true. Size The picture and dimensions look like this is a nice, compact footprint. It doesn't reveal that it has a paper drawer that remains open as long as you have paper in it. So, the footprint is actually the size of the paper you have in the drawer. And because the drawer is now always open, you're suseptible to dust. So I load the paper every time I want to print and keep the printer closed. LCD Screen The screen is on the front instead of the top. I laid the device on it's back with the edge off the end of the table for the power cord so I could look down onto the printer in order to read the LCD screen. I also opened the curtains and turned my lights on. Once setup, I laid it flat again. Still, you have to interact with this screen every time you print and for every firemware upgrade. Connection Yes, the instructions suck and mine was actually missing the CD (empty case). I found the best luck was to connect the printer directly to my wi-fi and then locate the printer on my PC on the same network. My PC is directly hard-wired to my router, so not sure if that's why my PC found the printer so easily. I didn't want to connect the printer to my PC via USB since they're more than 6 feet apart. I don't use Apple products nor do I print from my Android. Printing Every single time you print something, the LCD prompts you to select a print drawer. There is only one print drawer. But, you have to scroll down and press okay on the LCD screen for the one and only print drawer before it will print. If there's a firmware upgrade available, it won't print and your job will remain in the queue until you upgrade. Firmware upgrades This is more often than I'd prefer, about as often as your PC receives updates. I've had the printer two months and have had to update the firmware 3 times. This is done through the hard to see LCD screen by scrolling down to Upgrade, pressing OK, and then scrolling one button press at a time to read through the entire agreement (smh). 50-75 or so clicks later, you will be able to proceed. Print quality I gotta say it prints shockingly fast - like 2 seconds. But that means the quality is going to match. Color docs don't translate well, but they are crisp and lightning fast and dry. Toner seems to be priced well, so replacements shouldn't be less than the old inkjet cartridges. Noise Sure, it's noisy, but I kind of expected that for the price. It sounds cheap. Overall "Buy" if you have lots of patience and just want to print text docs at a lower price point. Otherwise, treat yourself and upgrade. I feel like these printers have been sitting around for decades. They're only giving Canon a bad reputation.

Setup upper and lower case wifi password
Received this printer 2 days ago. Exactly as expected. A non-nonsense. Simple. Laser black&white only printer. Its all I need and want. Replaces a similar Brother where I gave up after endless issues with the toner replacement watchdog. One problem with the Canon was entering WIFI password with lower and upper case text. Finding the lower case option not intuitive. Not mentioned on documentation. Manufacturers website was a tedious, circular search. CD did not work. Download of printer drivers thru google search worked. Printer works. Setup less than easy! Operates flawlessly so far.

KNOW the limitations, and its a good deal (on sale)
This is a GOOD deal BUT you must know the limitations. Luckily, I walked in with eyes wide open due to the many critical reviews here. There are 3 frustrations I've encountered so far: 1. As well noted, the display is hard to read. It should be backlit instead. But, it's not a huge deal. Just use your phones flashlight and it's no problem. This LCD screen is one of the few benefits over comparable Brothers. I didn't have to do a lot of clicking per print as mentioned in another review. 2. The initial wifi setup is frustrating -- especially if you, like me, make the mistake of letting chatgpt give you wrong suggestions. There IS NO WAY to set up the wifi the first time other than typing in your password on the small screen!!! (Well, there's WPS, but that's a huge security risk -- never do that.) This is the biggest mistake Canon makes. Even smart bulbs let you enter the wifi password through the app, afer establishing the temporary device-wifi connection. Canon does NOT let you do that, not using master setup, not using the app, and not using a usb-b cable. So do not let AI's waste your time trying these steps on this model! Just put your password into the tiny LCD screen, yeah it may take 10 minutes or whatever but it's WAY better than wasting hours like I did trying to get it to work from my computer. Pennywise, pound foolish!!! The good news is, after putting in the wifi password, everything worked seamlessly. Windows, Max, Android, Ios all found it instantly. 3. The first step in setup is to remove all the orange tape. I think this will happen to everyone: after removing it all, the toner lid no longer closes. I was frustrated a long time at this step, esp bc cgpt kept telling me the wrong solutions. But it's actually very easy and an online search found it right away: <ok i think amazon doesn't want me to put this external link -- just search for "toner door wont close" and find the canon link> . It's literally a 2 second fix. Good luck, and as long as you don't expect too much, this is a good purchase. On sale, I got it significantly cheaper than the next cheapest duplex wireless laser (Brother's custom version for another retailer). That price differential may get eaten up by toner costs if you do a lot of printing (more than say 30pp per week, assuming you use cheap 3rd party for both). Comparison summary (based on official specs): You also get 1) lower resolution, 2) more limited wifi (2.4GHz only), 3) smaller paper tray, in addition to my aforementioned 4) harder initial setup and 5) more expensive toner. The positives are the A) LCD display and B) slightly smaller footprint. 2/3/4 probably don't matter much for most people, 1 only matters if you are really printing pictures often (in which case you probably prefer color), leaving 5 the cost of toner as the main decider in my opinion. Note I am only 1 day in; I will update if things break too quickly, or there are too many updates, as some other reviewers have mentioned.

I cannot believe what incredible pain i* t** a**Is this printer? It is constantly not able to be identified by any device that is supposed to be connected to enter and the screen is so small that I can not read what is on it even when I have a powerful flashlight trained on it. I'm disappointed. It takes a lot of effort every single time I want to print even one page.
