Yes, that is what it was designed for. Looks like a real worm, but it's not. Works great for bobber fishing for panfish.

how many come in a jar?

A lot. I actually cut them in half and use them as halves, so it makes the jar go even further. Like another person said, I have been using them for a year and still have over half a jar left. They will typically stay on the hook for 2-3 fish, so you get pretty good use out of them.

Can these worms be used for potted plants to increase soil fertility?

I believe they would work great if the plants are fake. Fake plants respond great to fake worms, oh, and salsa music.

Anyone have any luck with these for ice fishing? Using real worms in freezing weather is difficult.
