STIHL 56057504303 File Holder 2-in-1 Diameter 4.0 mm for 3/8 Inch P-Saw Chain

I've acquired three or four chain sharpening file tools over the years; I've sent a chain or two for professional sharpening. This tool is now the only method I now use. Here's why: Pros: ~ it correctly files the rakers / depth gauges at the same time, avoiding a common cause of apparent chain bluntness. ~ It is quick to use - I can do the chain in about 2 minutes. ~ It's easy to use, but I did end up writing on the handle "This side forward for RH teeth", as it's a bit of a mind puzzle when you first pick it up and try to work out which way is up and forward for each side of the chain. ~ I can use it in the field without needing to return the saw to the workshop bench. ~ so I use it more often, perhaps every half hour ~ keeping the saw in peak sharpness for more of the job ~ The above keeps the chain really sharp at all times so I never feel I'm working with a blunt saw, wondering how long I can go before I have to stop, getting more tired as the job becomes harder with a blunt saw. Have you been there? ~ The 4mm files can rotate to even the wear upon them and can be replaced with any standard 4mm round file. Cons: ~ The rakers file seems to be a proprietary Stihl file, so you can only replace with that oblong file. If they ever stop making it, I'm screwed. ~ The rakers file cannot be adjusted to wear upon a different part, so it's always wearing the centre area. ~ It could do with a diagram / note on the body to show which way is forward for which side of the chain, like I added for myself. Best tool I've ever had for chain sharpening.

I rarely use a chainsaw so no interest in being skilled in sharpening its chain with traditional methods, so this tool is a prefect easy to use solution that keeps my chain tip-top ready for the next session. Without it, i'd probably just buy new chains each time one got mullered.

For years I have been buying new chains every time I blunted the existing one. Using this file I was quickly and easily able to restore the sharpness of the chain back to virtually new condition. It probably took me about 20 minutes. Nicely made, easy to use and very effective. Brilliant

Very useful. Frequent re-sharpening is key to successful chain saw use. A good support vice while sharpening is also very useful, as are avoiding soil and cleaning/oiling etc.

Easiest, most accurate sharpener that I have bought. Used to dread having to get all the gauges out to sharpen my chain accurately, this does the job in a fraction of the time. Means you work more safely and easier as you don't hesitate to stop and give the chain a few passes when it gets blunt in use. Absolutely excellent piece of kit.

Dead easy to use, but you only realise this when you use it. When you read the instructions, it all sounds a bit technical! But when you put the file onto the chain, you can feel how it simply slots itself into place (they are a custom fit after all). The whole chain takes 10 mins max to sharpen, and that includes securing and unsecuring the chainsaw to the vice (which is essential - if you don't have a vice, buy a stump vice for £6 - does the job fine)

This really is an amazing piece of kit. I have been trying to sharpen with the standard Stihl kit and frankly not very successfully. Ended up giving up and buying new chains. This has changed everything and as I still have some of the blunt chains I am sharpening them and hey presto. Really it works and no surprise reading all the other reviews. You do have to be careful and I do 4 passes on each tooth and putting in a vice is not a bad idea either.

Forget any other chain saw sharpener. This is so easy, so effective, it's amazing. My 30+ year old Stihl has not been sharpener for maybe 20 hours of sawing. Blades were chipped, a disaster. 15 minutes with this and it cuts like new. Don't hesitate, buy it!
