Why does battery use require the INPUT jack?

For battery power, insert a 1/4-inch instrument cable into the INPUT jack to activate the circuit. Make sure the battery polarity is correct and the input/output cables are fully inserted. The LED lights red when the effect is active.

How should I connect the JF-04?
