ESTROTECT HEAT DETECTOR GN PK50 147-78200 Review: Been using for years. - These work well, especially when trying to heat detect for artificial insemination. Review: As expected - Great heat detection patches. In this cooler weather, we keep the patches under a heat lamp to keep the adhesive soft. We always spray with tail adhesive before applying as well to help reduce the risk of losing patches.

Good Visual, Not the Best Adhesive
We’ve been using heat detection patches for years to help with fixed time ai and usually jump between Estrotech and Kamar. I like how easy the Estrotech ones are to just plop on, and how nice the visual is. My complaints are twofold. First, the adhesive to put on isn’t that strong, likely somewhere in the realm of a normal band aid for people, maybe a little stickier. Because of these even when the rear region of a cow is cleaned off in the chute and the Estrotechs are applied and patted down, there’s a loss rate of about 10% within a week and about 25% within two just from normal wear and tear. Secondly there is a bit of a grey area when it comes to whether they’ve been activated or not. In the summertime when flies are a bit of a problem, my girls are constantly using their tails to swat flies. When they do so, it creates scratches that add up over time. I’d say that within two weeks, it’s impossible to distinguish between riding and swatting, as ones that we later found out via ultrasound were already bred and looked like they’d been tripped from riding. All in all, I’d say they’re a decent additional tool for cattleman, but don’t put all your stock in them being 75% successful or better even after only a few days from application.
