CASIO Mod. TQ-218-1 d Review: Very Good. - Great value. Doing its job. Clear to see. Review: Not luminous enough to be a bed side clock - My present bedside alarm clock (Seiko) is getting old, and harder for me to read - the passage of time is weakening my eyesight, and I don't wear glasses when sleeping (obviously). So I looked at this Casio clock, with its huge, clear, "obviously" luminous hands and figures, and thought it would be perfect. What's more, the detailed description on the Casio site says "Neo-display: A luminous coating provides long-term illumination in the dark after only a short exposure to light." BAD NEWS ========= This is not true, at least for the example sent to me (which I returned). After the clock was unreadable during the first night, I left the clock in the bedroom window all day, to get as much light charge as possible. At 8 O'clock in the evening I checked the clock. NO GLOW. If there ever was any, it hadn't lasted. So I put the clock under a 60watt incandescent table lamp. When I went to bed at 9:30, there was NO GLOW. So I held the clock under my "white light" LED hall lights for 30 seconds. Bingo! A very acceptable glow, from both hands and figures. This was what I wanted. There is hope! But by 10:30 there was NO GLOW. GOOD NEWS ========== The clock is quite large (not recommended for travel) super easy to read (in daylight), the hands and figures are strongly flourescent. The tick is extremely quiet. I happen to like how it looks, but that's easy for the buyer to judge for themselves from photos. It does use the unsual 'C' size battery (AKA LR14)
