Best guide to creating an Islamic garden in UK
An inspirational book. If you are thinking of creating in UK the serenity of an Islamic garden - perhaps after visiting Andalucia- then this is the book for you. It combines scholarship , style, and practical advice including plants to choose for a northern climate. Plus a case study of Highgrove's Carpet garden. Five stars - hugely recommended.

A simple structure on which a lot of detail hangs
My husband bought me this for my birthday after we had visited Cordoba in Spain. We want to create a Moorish courtyard similar to those we saw there and in Seville and Granada. This book is beautifully constructed and very clear on all the features found in Islamic gardens, their meanings and uses. My own design flowed easily from the information given and now all we have to do is find the right builder. A lovely, lovely book.

Very inspiring
Though I have not finished this book, what I have read is very inspiring. I am very passionate about gardening and this book is introducing me to Islamic designs. I love the geometric nature of the designs and the effect these gardens have on the soul. Somehow I have always felt that there is an inner, more spiritual aspect to garden design. Its a "feel" rather than a "think". The symbolism of the garden designs is very intriguing. Just one thought: Read the book with pen and notebook at hand as I feel this book is more of a textbook than a relaxed easy read!
