Silverline VC62 Aluminium Sash Clamp 600 mm

Finally the day has come when I am able to give a Silverline product a 5 star review!! Having tried several of their products in the past they are usually of terrible quality but they were the only company selling bar clamps in this price range so I bought four of them expecting to have to modify them.... but delighted to report these are really very good. As a woodworker you can never have too many clamps and I have quite a lot of projects on at the moment and needed another four to add to my collection and not wanting to remortgage my home to pay for them I opted for these given they are a fraction of the price of some others on Amazon. No reflection on Silverline or the clamps but for some reason Amazon decided to dispatch all four of these as separate parcels and each of them arrived wrapped in a bin liner which offered no protection so I expected them to be damaged as a result of the lack of packaging but they stood up well to the delivery process even with no protection so I am really impressed at that. All four of the clamps are nice and straight, they look and feel well made and they work beautifully so definitely very pleased with my purchase. So far they have been used to glue up edge to edge pine, oak and walnut and they deliver a impressive clamping force that is even / equal across the wood. I would even admit that these are easier to use that some of my clamps that cost four times the price of these so I really am staggered at how good these clamps are. I even accidentally dropped two of them from a height of about 4ft onto a concrete floor and they didn't even flinch. Just in case these are your first clamps be sure to add scrap wood between the clamping faces / heads (the blue bits) and your workpiece as with all bar / sash clamps the clamp faces with mark / dig into the wood so by using scrap you don't damage your workpiece.

A great price considering many people are selling almost identical products elsewhere online for ridiculous prices. For the price I paid from Amazon at around £8 each it’s great. It’s light, easy to use, and if it’s to be used for heavier duty clamping Paul Sellers has a video on YouTube that shows how to strengthen and reduce the flex of the aluminium section which is a U shaped extrusion and open along the back. I bought 4 of the shorter 60cm/2’ version so I’m not sure if I’ll bother with this measure yet. My one complaint is with Amazon rather than Silverline, I ordered 4 clamps at the same time, so why they felt it necessary to pack them individually in huge boxes is beyond me (see photos). All 4 would have fit comfortably in on of the boxes as I have shown. This probably has something to do with the way the automated system at the depot works rather than human error, but it is a shameful waste of cardboard and shipping volume none the less.

For what they cost these are very handy and useful lightweight and light duty clamps, but don't expect too much of them. If you just want to hold something together, without weighing it down, then they are fine, but if you want to apply a lot of clamping force then get the heavy duty clamps. The clamping faces are not as stable and square as the better made machined steel sash clamps, which would cost a lot more, but they are good enough for many applications. I found the rails were a bit wrinkled and in one case had to squeeze it in a bit to allow the sliding end to move freely, but otherwise they were quite adequate. They are very quick and easy to adjust and the Acme thread clamping screw has sufficient adjustment, but I would have liked a bit more. For now I think they are worthy of a five star rating, as they do what is expected at a very good cost.

Good quality product but only one clamp. Do the job but overpriced. Not going to buy again. Found two same price and quality. Disappointed.

Nice but a little less robust unexpected

Very pleased with the sash clamp. Light and very functional. Being made of aluminium, it is not as strong as the steel clamp but can be strengthened by sliding a piece of timber in the clamp. Watch YouTube how to strengthen the clamp.

+ Die Zwingen sind sehr leicht, ein angenehmer Unterschied zu meinen restlichen Zwingen. + Zwingen Gewinde solide + Preis/Leistung sehr gut + Einrasten funktioniert erstaunlich gut (wurde in manchen Rezensionen bemängelt +/- Stabilität bei hohem Druck: beim verleimen mit hohem Druck verwinden sich die Alu Profile erwartungsgemäß, wer sich allerdings ein Holz-Profil zuschneidet und in die Zwinge einführt hat selbst damit kein Problem. - Der blaue Lack blätterte bereits von Anfang an ab. Schmälert die Leistung der Zwinge jedoch nicht im geringsten.

Très bons serres joints de grande taille. J’ai réussi à assembler de nombreuses planches (de palettes) avec une facilité déconcertante pour en faire de beaux grands plateaux . Légers, solides, très bien conçus, en un mot : parfait ! … Je recommande ce produit sans hésiter …

The sash clamps are well made and operate easily. I have only used two of the six that I purchased for a larger project coming up. I will probably purchase a few more.

Great clamps. Lightweight but sturdy, Easy to adjust the movable jaw thanks to the latch mechanism. Great value for the money, but I suggest filling the slot of the aluminium bar with a piece of wood to give it some extra rigidity. Paul Sellers has a great video about this modification on Youtube.
