Do I have to screw it through the table or is this step optional?

The partitions will need some type of support. They stand on a completely flat surface if they are untouched, however in a classroom setting they will need Velcro or some type of adhesive.

Can these be places on the table with 3m tape and stay standing without having to make a hole in the table for thebscrew?

I used poster tape I had on hand and they didn’t fall over. I think Velcro would work well also.
