Sumac Spice – Tangy Middle Eastern Seasoning for Hummus, Salads, Chicken & Kebabs – 2 oz – Zamouri Spices

I had never heard of Sumac until I read The Acid Watcher Diet. I have several health issues related to acid, so I've had to take lemon juice out of my diet. I used to make lemon chicken regularly and assumed I'd be forced to eat bland food forever. Dr. Aviv mentioned in his book that Sumac can be used in recipes to replace lemon juice, so I tried using it in my regular recipe. Just put chicken in a pan, add a sprinkle of Sumac, salt, pepper, and then you can also use any other seasonings like rosemary, sage, thyme or poultry seasoning. Put a little oil on top and bake at 375 until the chicken is done. I really didn't expect it to be that good, but was shocked how the chicken truly did have a lemon flavor, only without the acid problems that come with it.

This sumac spice is awesome on grilled and oven roasted vegetables. It adds a great flavor and they look great with this purple spice sprinkled on them. The taste for me was like adding a bit of lime and salt. Great on olive oil sprinkled veggies like a combination of potato's, cauliflower, carrots, eggplant, and onions. Adds taste and color.

I have done a lot of reading about sumac spice which peaked my curiousity, and I finally ordered the product. The day it arrived I was making a roast chicken for dinner, and sprinkled sumac spice along with a pinch of salt and pepper on the outside of the chicken. Sumac added a mild taste of lemon on the chicken which was delicious. I have used it in stir fry, in salad dressings, and fish. I would recommend sumac spice to friends and relatives. Great value. It's a great spice.

This barely has any flavor. Curious if it’s mixed with anything with dyes. Perhaps it’s old or stale? Tastes very bad, not tangy or fresh. Bad with yogurt. Bad with veggies. Bad with manti. Going to try another brand.

Color seems fine to me

Love this spice and need to upgrade to a bigger size I'm using so much of it. I had no idea what this spice was until I saw it in a recipe and when I couldn't find it locally, i jumped onto prime and had it in 2 days. This spice is somewhat of a lemony flavor and can be added to most dishes. I've added it to several different pastas this week, as well as a bean salad, garden salad and a chicken dish. In just my first week, I've already used 1/3 of the bottle, so I'll be buying the larger size next time. Try this spice, you will not be disappointed.

Well, I received my package. I will say the spice is fragrant and textured, as it exploded all over the inside of the package - everything smells like lemony sumac and is covered in a fine grit. I cannot speak to it's freshness as the fresh seal popped off inside the lid during transit. Thankfully, the other spices I ordered came in individual baggies, so nothing else was bothered. Still, I paid for a full jar of spice and am missing 2 tablespoons worth of it due to having to scrape it off everything. Advice for the seller: wrap it in plastic. 2.5/5 will be buying from my natural food store next time.
