Question 1

There are two entries on amazon, one for $27 and change, and $28.15. is the difference in cost the color. the graphite one is the slightlycheaper one?

Accepted Answer

We periodically discount one or both of the VTF gauges (this depends on Amazon inventory levels). Both color (silver and graphite )VTF gauges are identical in terms of build quality and circuit. James at Riverstone Audio

Question 2

Does it make the most sense to calibrate the scale on the platter (assuming it's level) since that's where you'll be using it?

Accepted Answer

I just used the scale yesterday for a new cartridge. Since it comes precalibrated, all you need to do is place it on the turntable platter and gently lower the stylus to the arm of the scale. If your turntable doesn't come with adjustable feet for leveling, you should check out a set online and also get a bubble level and square up your turntable before you do any cartridge adjustments. It's really a terrific tool -- much more accurate than the old Shure balance beam. Hope I helped you!

Question 3

When not in use can it be stored with the extension arm attached or must the arm be removed and stored separately?

Accepted Answer

I always remove the arm and put everything back in the box when storing the scale. I do not think it necessary to do this, but I don't use the scale often. I may re-check the cartridge force after 6 months or so, just to make sure nothing has changed. It's easy to reconnect the arm

Question 4

My guage showsconstantly decreasing weight. It used to do it when the battery was low, now it's all the time. Is it time for a new one?

Accepted Answer

Not sure if your question is in regards to a VTF gauge from Riverstone Audio or if it is a general question. Riverstone Audio VTF gauges require an alkaline battery. If you are using a non-rechargeable battery instead, that may be the issue (depending on the type, a rechargeable battery, for example a Ni-metal hydride battery, will have a lower nominal voltage of 1.2 V compared to a nominal voltage of 1.5 V for an alkaline battery - which can affect the VTF circuit). To check the VTF gauge (using a name-brand alkaline battery) place the 5 g or 20 g mass on the gauge - the reading should be stable and also repeatable; if not, the circuit has an issue and we will replace the VTF gauge.

Riverstone Audio products are backed by a very generous warranty, for warranty replacements, please provide us through our website with your Amazon Order ID (do not provide Order ID info here - only provide Order ID information using the contact information on our website, which can be found on the warranty card and manual included with all Riverstone Audio products). Please note that an Order ID is required to verify that the VTF gauge you have is a Riverstone Audio product sold on Amazon, and not a similar-looking knockoff, which, unfortunately, have been showing up on other e-commerce sites. Again, after verifying the battery type, contact Riverstone Audio if the issue persits and we will get a replacement VTF gauge to you immediately. Best regards, James at Riverstone Audio
