A bold account of the development of human consciousness and spirituality over the ages and an examination of the dynamic global transformation of attitudes about healing. For more than fifteen years, Caroline Myss has studied why some people heal, while others do not. In her previous book, Anatomy of the Spirit, Dr. Myss illuminated the hidden interactions of belief and body, soul and cell to show how, as she inimitably puts it, "your biography becomes your biology." In Why People Don't Heal and How They Can , she builds on her earlier teachings of the seven different energy centers of the body to provide a vital self-healing program for physical and spiritual disorders. With her characteristic no-nonsense style and high-voltage storytelling, she exposes and explodes the five myths about healing, explains the cultural and individual contexts in which people become physically and spiritually ill and invested in "woundology," and teaches new methods of working with the challenges that the seven energy centers embody. To help you get and stay on the path to wellness, Dr. Myss provides rituals and prayers for gaining a symbolic perspective on your life issues; for bolstering your personal power; and for connecting with a universal divine energy. Dr. Myss's breakthrough views on energy medicine and her active approach to healing life issues and physical illness will help you overcome the mental blocks that keep you from becoming well. Review: Powerful Read - When a person is curious and/or ready to explore this topic, this book is great and will be an important resource if you want to make the commitment to doing the work. She explains things in a way that are easily relatable. This book shares out the ways in which the mind/body are connected and explains how this equates across 3 religions. I appreciate this because it did not make me feel that religions were in competition with each other or that a person had to subscribe to a particular religion or change their personal beliefs- in my opinion, it transcends that and reinforces our Inter connectedness. I do hope she is able to do more research and connect this work across more religions in the future. Review: A Must Read - This is my favorite book of Caroline Myss. I learned a lot from reading it!

Great Book
Very interesting topic…found it helpful & thought-invoking. Direction physical body healing is going in….addresses spiritual, mental energy influence over bodily function; very forward-thinking and opened up my mind to a whole new train of thought on how the mind/intentional thought affects the physical body!

insightful read
I liked the simplicity in which the author wrote the book. Easy to read and follow. It gave me a lot to think about my life, and how I am living it. I intent to apply to my life at least some of the rituals, like having an altar in my home, and meditate there , make offerings, and rid of negative thoughts. Thank you for inspiring me.

Troubles with too many alternative views.
The information contained was helpful, and she presents examples that are illustrative, but she spends about four chapters on information that was too abstract for me. I skipped those chapters, only to find they were integrated into some of the final chapters. I like her approach, it just seemed as if there would be a more direct way to articulate the concepts. Perhaps she was being paid by the page?

Interesting at the very least
Recommended for those with chronic illnesses - you can ignore it (your illness) as much as you like but, for the benefit of those around you as well as yourself, the sooner you come to terms with being chronically ill, the better. Spoke to me on many levels eg having long been a reader of Patanjali & working on living beneath the waves (not over reacting to the currents of ones life), the concept - of what is essentially detachment - proposed by Myss of the Symbolic Mind and the 8th chakra was personally very helpful. I agreed with her idea of Woundology & that some people find the status of victimhood addictive. I have my own lexicon for many of her ideas, she’s great at explaining processes so a lot of what she said - NOT all - made sense to me, often on a practical level. Well worth a look. Sick happens - it’s how you cope with it that matters, best of luck

Excellent service and fabulous book
The book arrived on time and exactly as described. Thank you! I love buying secondhand books, as an environmentally conscious person it is such a pleasure to recycle a book. This book is life-changing. I am not sick, in fact I am in excellent health. I bought this book because I thought it might be helpful for someone I know who hangs under the cloud of a cancer-in-the-pipeline. However it was just what the doctor ordered as far as I am concerned - I have read the book at least three times. I then ordered a copy for my brother and my sister, and seriously hope they will read it. This is wisdom on a soul level. As a non-religious person, I find it difficult to experience myself at soul level, and mostly the only time I am aware of having a soul is when things go wrong. This is definitely a "bigger and biggest picture" book and worth reading BEFORE we get ill and have to turn our lives around. It is about making more of the right choices. I am motivated (and the motivation has remained consistent since reading it) to keep taking actions and creating new habits that support my health and well-being. And of course, of noting those actions, thoughts and attitudes that don't serve my well-being and personal evolution, and stopping doing them. I have lived in a very tribal place - traditional values - and the insights from the first part of the book were extremely helpful in understanding why they hated me for doing good things! But tribalism isn't the only way of living, but you'll need to read the book to find out the higher evolutionary pathways open to us.

Excellent Book
This is a great book if you are needing to work through deep issues that have you stuck in a long term illness. You may not even be aware of the deep issues or where you are stuck and why you can’t heal. Caroline walks you through step by step with excellent examples.
