AMAZING! Shannon is the BEST! Exile was an awesome follow-up to the first book, and the rest of the books don't fail. This is an Amazing book by an amazing author. Shannon touches each page of this series with amazing talent! The characters are...well, AMAZING! (Honestly, this book is so good that I've already put 5 amazings in this and I'm not done!) my favorite Character is Dex Dizznee, but of course I have an amazing (I said it again) love for Keefe ( If you know, you know. *Mic drop*) These well thought and put-together books are so awesome (Trying to find something other than Amazing lol) and again, characters are great. Soon you'll be team Foster-Keefe, So-Fitz, or So-Dex. (Personally, I am 100% Foster-Keefe\ So-Keefe) I am a 14 year old girl, and (Even though it's rated 8-12) and it is my favorite book series EVER! And my bestie agrees. KOTLC is more than just books, it's hard work a mother decided to make for people everywhere, It's a place to go when you need to get away, it's a way of making friends (I owe KOTLC for my best friend, Mary. When I said "Oh, I love Keeper of The Lost Cities!" She instantly turned to me and said "KOTLC!? I LOVE KOTLC!!") KOTLC Exile was an awesome book. I don't regret reading it. and I definetly DO NOT regret the 5 star rating I gave it. So, if you've read the first book, and aren't hooked yet, then trust me: This one will convince you. Shannon, thank you. you've given me a great book series. And You will always be my favorite writer who showed me that, even in the crazy of life ( I am the oldest of four and life is always crazy.) you can share a story. And that story can inspire and take people to amazing places. Again, thank you. Andrea, A KOTLC fan and lover of a good book Review: A Fun, Creative, and Simply Outstanding Sequel - Sophie Foster is back, and in EXILE she's in for a world of trouble and excitement. From training a rare alicorn (essentially, a very endearing winged unicorn) to trying not to fail her classes at Foxfire, Sophie's life becomes exceedingly complicated when the mysterious Black Swan group continues to send her obscure messages. As if that's not bad enough, Sophie's become even more of a strange outcast in her society -- especially since she now has a goblin bodyguard to keep her safe -- and her elfish abilities are starting to have some problems. In order to save herself - and the people she cares about - Sophie has to travel into unknown territory, and decide who she can trust to help her succeed... Once again, Messenger gives elves and other creatures of myth her own twist in this captivating sequel. Dangerous, thrilling, and incredibly surprising, EXILE is an outstanding sequel that will keep readers glued to the pages. I told myself I would only read a few chapters one night, and somehow found myself up at midnight, still reading. The characters I fell in love with in the first novel are given more page-time in this sequel, and Sophie's adventures take a darker, more emotional turn. While I highly enjoyed KEEPER OF THE LOST CITIES, Messenger surprised me with how incredible EXILE turned out to be. If you are looking for a fun and creative middle-grade series that is filled with surprises and fabulous characters, then you need to check out these books. HIGHLIGHTS: I love how important family and friendship is in this series. While Sophie relies heavily on herself, she also leans on her friends (especially Dex and Keefe) and family (the fabulous Grady and Edaline) when she needs some extra support. I even enjoyed Sophie's struggles with her abilities in this novel, and how she never let that hold her back. The new details Messenger included about Sophie's fascinating world were fantastic. While reading, I never knew what to expect from this story, so I was very surprised by certain moments. LOWLIGHTS: I didn't make note of any lowlights while reading, so I think it's safe to say that I highly enjoyed this entire story. I was a bit bothered by Fitz's moody attitude, but I understand why he acted the way he did. SOURCE: received an advanced readers copy from publicist in exchange for my honest opinion. I will be purchasing this book ASAP, because this is one that I definitely want on my bookshelf.

Not what I expected...
(CONTAINS SPOILERS) I will be honest: This series is great. Awesome main character with huge mystery to uncover with help of funny/romantic/technopath side characters. It's pretty awesome. But I'm a little disappointed by the lack of girls. Sure the main character is female but not many other important people are. Also, I was kind of hoping for more on Stina's behavior at the funeral and if she is kinder now. Hopefully this will be addressed in the next book. However, the book was nicely written and it was easy to believe Sophie was a real person. A little predictable at times but still so epic and sort-of-cliffhanger at the end makes it certain that I will buy the next book. I hope for more works of art in the future from you, Shannon!

AMAZING book, Fantastic Series, Even better than the first!
NO SPOILERS! (for first or second book!) I absolutely loved the first book of this series (Keeper of the Lost Cities) and the second was EVEN BETTER. No idea how, but it totally was! Can't say too too much about this book without spoiling it, so I won't say much at all! All I will say is I feel like the first book has a lot of world building and laying of the foundation for a longer, richer, more mysterious story. The first book is a peek into that story but the second really gets its hands into the story and gets dirty. Exile is PACKED with so much adventure, suspense, intrigue and excitement which made it even more of a delight to read than the first. We didn't have to spend so much time setting up and laying the groundwork so there was all this time to start getting into the meat of the universe. It was delightful! I loved this one so hard. Loved it more than the first. It was so exciting, so fun. UGH I LOVE THIS SERIES IT'S JUST SO FREAKING GREAT. If you have not picked up the Keeper of the Lost Cities series yet, what are you doing. It is so freaking good, get on that right this very second. GO READ IT. Everyone must read this series! In addition, the Hardcover book is SO BEAUTIFUL! The book cover is gorgeous, the binding, it's just a really beautiful book to have on your shelf. And it's so thick! It especially looks nice lined up next to your hardcover copy of the first ;) I definitely recommend picking up the hardcovers rather than the paperbacks of this series because they're very gorgeous. Can't wait to read the 3rd book. Waiting on the price to drop a little on Amazon so I can order it because I just love this series so hard.

started these books out of obligation to my daughter and now I LOVE them!
My 11-year-old daughter and her friends have been into these books this year. They even started a book club at their school that revolves around these books. She was begging and begging and begging me to start reading them because she kept trying to talk to me about them. So purely out of obligation I started reading them and now Iโm obsessed and Iโm telling all of my adult friends that even though these are clearly meant for kids, theyโre good enough for adults to be able to enjoy as well!

Great find. Kickoff book for the series indeed
My kids have the books 1, 3,4,5. Though could treat each one as independent story, the thought of missing the first 2 still poses questions of how those are all linked to one another. This book answered their curious questions on the characters. The storyline is just as relevant and engaging. The conflicts are predictable though. Kind of typical events for a young reader. Still a great book and a series to keep reading.

OH MY GOSH!!!THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!!!
I would just like to say how incredible Shannon Messenger is. I think we would all agree that she is one of the best authors ever!!! Also, in the first book of Keeper of the Lost Cities there was one really nasty guy (I'm not going to mention names) that kept saying how bad the book was, but honestly he wouldn't know a good book even if someone put one in his face! Nobody (except for Karen Collum aka my Mum) writes better than Shannon Messenger. Thank you so much Shannon! I love you! Yours Sincerely Hannah:)

Thrilling sequel
I never thought an alicorn would become my absolute favorite character of this series but here we are. If anything bad happens to Silveny I'm going to riot. I love her! Exile was a great sequel. At the beginning it felt a bit slow but the plot set up and the backstory revealed throughout the book made it worth it. I'm so happy there was so much Keefe in it. That guy and the sweet family moments between Grady, Edaline and Sophie were amazing. I have even more questions now than I had starting the book and I'm so excited for all I still get to read.
