How to Sew Little Felt Animals: Bears, rabbits, squirrels and other woodland creatures

It said "Used - Good" but the condition is brilliant! The book is thick and rich with sewing patterns, far more than it seems than just on the cover! So many little outfits to make for the animals and such great tutorial details so you don't feel lost while making the critters. I would probably recommend a little practice in sewing before giving it a go but I feel this book is suitable for most skill levels! Absolutely adorable book, worth every penny!

I ordered this book based on the good reviews and the fact that I wanted to make some little characters for Xmas gifts. I’m really pleased with it. You get patterns for Bears, Squirrels, Rabbits, Mice and Moles along with patterns for clothing that is interchangeable between the animals. You can trace the patterns from the book to make small figures or download the full sized patterns on the site detailed on page 24. The instructions in the book assume you have downloaded the full sized patterns and all the photos show the larger sized pieces. The first section of the book has detailed instructions on stitch types, tools needed, material and stuffing. You will need eyes and cotter joints so probably best to order the book and then check what other tools you require as the books details sizes and makes recommendations. After that you then have detailed instructions for each animal along with photos showing the process . Having read through it I reckon the mice are the most straightforward so that will be my first task. I was planning to hand sew these but after reading everything I think I will probably use my sewing machine as I’m sure it will achieve a more professional finish. I do think that you need a modicum of skill to make these. I don’t think they are suitable for total beginners but if you can use a sewing machine and you have a good range of stitch types in your arsenal then these would be a joy to make. I’m planning on dressing mine in winter clothes and adding a bit of Christmas sparkle but whatever you want yours for I think they make really adorable characters ideal for gifts or just for yourself.

A lovely book the patterns inside are not full size but you can download the patterns there is a link in the book and it is easy to do. I have cut out the rabbit pattern but not got round to stitching it yet

I hesitated buying this book, as almost everyone criticised the sizing of the template. I thought they would be minute. However, if anything they are quite large. Surely the attraction is that these figures are small and detailed? So if you want to make approx 5" woodland creatures, this book is perfect. Otherwise, yes it's a case of sizing. If I have any criticism, it's that there's no suppliers indexed, but perhaps this book is of international appeal, so they've decided not to include. However, Amazon has a pretty extensive crafts selection, including small joints, and 6mm safety eyes ( these are the smallest size I could find, but are perfect for patterns included) I have been making felt animals for years ( I'm afraid I've never tried a paper pattern, and have just made it up as I go) but thought I'd like to try the squirrels and bears in this book. Plus my mice could be uniform - sometimes my mice got very long noses. This size also means you can use machine, instead of 100% hand sewing. Not sure what Amazon's felts are like, but I recommend highly 'the Felt Fairy' as they have every colour, high wool content, and prompt service- very well priced too. Just need to keep eyes out for tiny buttons now... Think this book has a broad appeal, and could easily be made by children, who want to try a bit of soft toy making. The step by step instructions, and photography are great. I look forward to getting going.

Great book, super cute animals to make. I thought they would be too fiddly to machine sew but they are not. Love the outfits as well. Easy and clearinstruction. Enjoying making them.

Beautiful book. For all those that say the pattern sizing is an issue. Full size are available to download and print. The Web address is in the book. I just downloaded without any issues as stated in other reviews.

Purchased the book as a present for a friend who enjoys making soft toys. The book explains everything you require and how to complete the animals. You can either copy the patterns from the book or go online (address given in book) and print full size patterns off. I printed them off as it was easier and quicker than enlarging the patterns from the book.

Great little book, filled with great projects.

Il ibro è molto bello, ben spiegato e con dei soggetti divertenti. Ho provato a realizzarne uno ma non è semplicissimo o meglio è abbastanza impegnativo. Per realizzare un soggetto ci vuole un bel po' di tempo e poi soprattutto occorre disporre di alcuni accessori non facilmente reperibili secondo me in Italia. Si tratta ad esempio di quei connettori per collegare gli arti o la testa al corpo. Io non ho saputo dove trovarli....per cui mi sono bloccata. Si possono anche fissare al corpo con dei punti nascosti ma il bello di questi pupazzi è che sono mobili.

Certes il est un peu dépassé au niveau des tenues mais il est possible de les moderniser facilement. Bien qu’il soit en anglais cela reste facilement compréhensible à condition d’avoir de bonnes bases en couture. Le gros plus c’est que les patrons sont en taille réelle. Livre que je recommande à toutes les passionnées de couture !

Das Buch erklärt sich durch viele Fotos so gut wie selbst, somit sind keine übermäßigen Englischkenntnisse erforderlich. Nachteil ist, dass man die Schnittmuster auf 133% hochkopieren muss. Unser Kopierer macht das nicht, ich konnte nur von A5 auf A4 kopieren (141%) und habe somit etwas größere Schnittmuster. Auch das Zubehör- Teddy- Gelenkscheiben in der richtigen Größe- ist nicht so einfach zu bekommen. Trotzdem lohnt sich die Mühe, denn die Tierchen sind allesamt sehr niedlich!

Muy fácil de entender y tiene patrones muy bonitos para diferentes animalitos. Muy recomendable
