Nikon D5500 Digital SLR Camera - Black

Unlike the last reviewer I bought this camera solely for photography and also as a backup camera while my Nikon D800 goes in for a service and sensor cleaning. I never expected it to come close to my D800, but then it is a quarter of the price, however, image quality is fantastic for this price band, there is a noticeable improvement in image sharpness ( especially landscape shots and higher ISO photos ) over the D5300 that my wife currently has, and personally I don't think there's anything better image wise for under £700 at the time of writing this. Anyone that has had Nikon DSLRs will feel at home straight away with the controls, and the addition of the touch screen ( which works really well ) has made accessing certain features easier still. My only gripe, and it is a small one that wouldn't make me lower my five star review, is that the camera feels too light, but then I'm used to lugging around something that is at least twice as heavy. The camera is everything I expected. However the instruction manual is in French. I don't speak French. If you can, please send me an English language instruction book please.

I have upgraded from the D5100 that was an excellent camera, but I wanted to go up a level and the D5500 takes me there, I have not been disappointed with it, I can use all my original lenses and will give an update after a few more sessions with the particular projects I am going to cover with this camera, but so far I am impressed.

It may not be a major upgrade on the D5300, but the D5500 still looks a like a good SLR for creative photographers and many will love the touch control features Pros: + Vari-angle touchscreen + Proven sensor + Small size and low weight Cons: - The optical viewfinder in a DSLR doesn't show the effect of camera adjustments - GPS unit gone All-round solid addition by Nikon, but if you want proven quality then you are going to want to compare with this: D7100: http://amzn.to/1CUhq3M

Bought as body only, arrived in box for body with 18-55 kit lens. Manual was in Japanese, camera was set up for Japanese. Managed to register for warranty in UK so kept the camera. Would suggest you do not buy from Nick.

I feel a little reluctant to leave a less than 5 star review on this item because all the other reviewers seem to be extremely happy with the camera., but I have based my review on my experience and have also considered that the unit I had may have been faulty. I have not used a Nikon camera for about 4-5 years with the last one being a Nikon D300S, witch is widely regarded as being about the best crop sensor camera ever made and I think is still available in Nikons current UK line up. I have been a Canon user since then to date, but after I dug out my old D300S and bought a couple of cheap kit lenses to bundle up and give to a friend I was amazed how quite simply superb the latest Nikon VR2 range of lenses are, even the real £50 - £100 budget lenses. So I thought I would try a latest mid range crop sensor Nikon being the D5500. 4 - 5 years of technology improvements in cameras had given me the hope that the D5500 would be on a par with the D300S but I was very wrong. Where pretty much every handheld shot from the D300S was a keeper, those from the D5500 really didn't have the sharpness I was expecting form this model and had troule focussing on the desired subject. I appreciate that no camera maker is ever going to improve its entry level models so much that they are as good as its top line models, but I was expecting more. The camera design is very light and fits in the hand excellently, so the ergonomics are spot on. Video recording performance was disappointing but it is the same with any DLSR be it cheap or expensive, they just are not suited for fast video zooming and direction changes while keeping focus. A cheap Panasonic or Sony camcorder or compact camera will produce much better results and be far easier to control. I have allowed 3 stars based on the fact that I am sure that there must have been a fault with my unit as it was so disappointing and all the other reviewers seem delighted with their cameras. So I have decided to wait and check out the Nikon D500 when it becomes available as this appears to be more in the league I should have been selecting. You shouldn't need to use software to make a photo perfect it should come out of the camera that way.

Use it in place of my D3300 as with the movable screen I find low and high viewpoints much easier than with the D3300. There are other benefits in the menus and a definite must have as far as I am concerned.

Brilliant light touch screen camera. I bought a Nikon 18-300mm zoom to go with it and am very happy with the combo. Big learning curve moving up from a bridge camera but I'll get there!

Seit nunmehr einem Jahr bin ich im Besitz der Nikon D5500. Bereits über 10.000 Bilder haben wir damit gemacht und die Kamera in allen erdenklichen Lebenslagen ausführlich getestet. Bisher haben wir unseren Kauf nicht bereut. Vorgeschichte: Meine Lebensgefährtin und ich waren auf der Suche nach einer Kamera, die nicht nur klein und leicht ist, sondern auch hervorragende Bildqualität liefert und uns die Freiheit lässt, Wechselobjektive zu verwenden. Für mich kam ausschließlich eine Spiegelreflexkamera in Frage, da es hier ein attraktives Angebot an gebrauchten Objektiven gibt. Bei den neueren Systemkameras ist das leider noch nicht der Fall. Gewicht und Handlichkeit waren uns sehr wichtig, da große Kameras doch des Öfteren zu Hause gelassen werden. PRO: - rauscharmer 24,2 MP Sensor mit sehr hohem Dynamikumfang, einer der besten APS-C Sensoren derzeit auf dem Markt - sehr kleines und leichtes Gehäuse, welches trotzdem durch die vertiefte Griffmulde unglaublich gut in der Hand liegt - für diese Preisklasse eine hervorragende Haptik: die Kamera ist sehr hochwertig verarbeitet, alle Schalter und Rädchen haben einen guten Druckpunkt und vermitteln einem das Gefühl eines absolut hochwertigen Produktes - hohe Lichtempfindlichkeit bis ISO 25600: von den extremen Werten 25600 und 12800 lässt man sicherlich meistens die Finger, aber bis 6400 macht diese Kamera tatsächlich brauchbare Bilder! Das erste Bild von der norwegischen Waldkatze z.B. wurde bei ISO 3200 aufgenommen und unbearbeitet hochgeladen. Ich bin immer noch schwer beeindruckt. - sehr gute Serienbildfunktion: die D5500 macht bis zu 5 Bilder pro Sekunde und das sogar im RAW-Format! - hochauflösendes 3,2“ Touchdisplay, das man ausklappen und drehen kann: nicht nur beim Bilder betrachten ist die Touchfunktion sinnvoll (hereinzoomen, wischen, etc. funktioniert alles wie beim Smartphone), im Live-View z.B. kann man die Objekte im Bild einfach antippen und die Autofokus fokussiert das gewünschte Ziel – oftmals eine echte Bereicherung, genauso wie die Möglichkeit das Display zu drehen und zu kippen - umfangreiche Funktionen wie z.B. Spiegelvorauslösung, Blitzsynchronisation auf den zweiten Vorhang, etc., das ist nicht bei allen Kameras in diesem Preissegment selbstverständlich - Akku mit erstaunlich hoher Laufzeit: selbst im Urlaub, wenn von früh bis spät unzählige Bilder aufgenommen wurden, reichte die Kapazität, um über den gesamten Tag zu kommen - die riesengroße Auswahl an qualitativ hochwertigen Objektiven: nicht nur die DX Nikkore und Objektive von Fremdherstellern für das APS-C Sensorformat, auch die gesamte Palette an Vollformatobjektiven können an der kleinen Nikon genutzt werden - die integrierte WLAN-Funktion: Ich nutze diese Funktion für Makroaufnahmen, um die Kamera mit dem Laptop zu steuern – ungeheuerlich komfortabel! CONTRA: - Eine Sache die mich beispielsweise etwas nervt, ist, dass die Auswirkung der Blendenwahl im Live-View immer erst sichtbar wird, nachdem man ein Bild gemacht hat – es gibt keine Abblendtaste (eine Funktion die Nikon leider dieser Preisklasse vorenthalten möchte), woran ich mich aber inzwischen gewöhnt habe und auch ohne zurecht komme - Einmal ist mir eine SD-Karte gestorben, da hätte ich mir schon einen zweiten SD-Slot in der Kamera gewünscht, damit man die Bilder immer parallel speichern kann (ist wohl aber eher die Ausnahme, dass eine SD-Karte den Geist aufgibt) - Keine Belichtungsvorschau im Live-View Fazit: Wie schon eingangs geschrieben kann ich die Kamera uneingeschränkt weiter empfehlen und bin nach wie vor hellauf von der Nikon D5500 begeistert! Die Kamera ist zu meinem treuen Begleiter geworden, was nicht zuletzt auch den kleinen Abmessungen und dem geringen Gewicht geschuldet ist. Mit der 50 mm 1.8 Festbrennweite bringt die Kamera nicht einmal 650 g auf die Waage und ist dabei so klein, dass Sie in die Jackentasche meines Parkas passt – perfekt! Die Kamera ist praktisch immer mit dabei und das Fotografieren mit ihr macht einfach nur Spaß. premetto che non sono una professionista, per le mie esigenze il prodotto è veramente interessante, due dettagli sono stati una piacevole sorpresa, è molto maneggevole per me che ho le mani piccole, inoltre lo schermo touch è veramente sensibile e facile da usare

Ich will hier nicht alle Vorteile im Einzelnen aufführen. Aber die Kamera macht super Bilder und für eine Fotowiedereinsteiger hat sie alle Funktionen die man so braucht.

Il s'agit de mon premier reflex, après plus de dix ans de photos avec un compact. Je l'ai couplé à un Nikkor 18-105 mm et un Sigma 17-50 mm F2.8 que je monte la nuit pour gagner un peu de lumière. Je fais de la photo sur chantier, par conséquent j'ai mis longtemps à sauter le pas (encombrement, poussière, manque de polyvalence des optiques etc.). Je ne regrette pas mon choix ! Déjà 35 000 déclenchements depuis le moi de mai. Le point fort de cet appareil pour moi est la fabuleuse montée en ISO qui permet de prendre des photos de nuit de matériels en action à main levée avec quasiment autant de facilité qu'en plein jour, je suis étonné à chaque shooting des photos qu'il est capable de me sortir... Les 24 millions de pixels permettent de rendre le bruit imperceptible jusqu'à l'ISO 6400 pour mon œil d'amateur qui visualise ses photos sur un écran 24 pouces. Ci-joint une photo prise à ISO 8000, avec le 18-105 mm ainsi qu'une prise à ISO 6400 avec le 17-55 mm. Aucune retouche, je ne maîtrise pas les logiciels. Du coup je ne parle même pas de la facilité avec laquelle on peut prendre des photos urbaines de nuit... Le seul reproche que je pourrais formuler c'est le bruit agaçant sur les vidéos de la mise au point, mais j'ai acheté l'appareil en connaissance de cause car c'est bien la photo qui m'intéresse avant tout. A noter aussi un gros plantage avec une carte SD Kingston 128 go (heureusement avec un logiciel spécialisé j'ai pu récupérer la quasi-totalité des photos), ainsi que des pertes de mémorisation de paramétrages (illuminateur d'assistance AF qui se remet en route sans que je sache pourquoi).
