It works!
I bought the Spin Clean after spending far too much time reading reviews on this record cleaner and the Disco Anti Stat. There's no doubt it's on the expensive side, although the unit is well made and robust. It is also essentially an unchanged design since first appearing on the scene in the USA back in the 1970's. Some would reasonably argue that this, in itself, is testament to a simple but effective product. Unlike some people who purchase these type of cleaners I have used the supplied cleaning fluid. I would suggest you read the pros & cons before deciding which way to go. There are all kinds of methods people use on the internet (Vinyl Engine being a good source of information) either with the supplied cleaning or their own concoction. I use de-ionised water (99p, if you're lucky, for 2.5ltr). The instructions state that to clean a record you rotate the record 3 times clockwise then 3 times anti clockwise in the unit. The general consensus of other users is that the more you spin the better the results, depending on the condition of the record I spin a record a minimum of 20 spins (10 x clockwise 10 x anti clockwise). I bought additional microfibre cloths to wipe the records after cleaning, I also purchased separately 2 x Disco Anti Stat drying racks which allows me to clean up to 16 records per session. Another view shared by many users is that rinsing records in clean water (not using the cleaning solution) is essential for the best results, to facilitate this I clean out the unit and refill with de-ionised water up to the level marker. I also rinse the cleaning pads under warm water (as per instructions) prior to reinsertion back into the Spin Clean. When rinsing I tend to do fewer spins perhaps 6 or 7 (both ways) and after quick wipe leave to dry before placing the records in new inner covers. There's no doubt the Spin Clean works and works well. The devil is in the detail and selection of which cleaning fluid to use (supplied, another brand or homemade is clearly a individual choice) This isn't a process to rush, the more time taken, the likelihood of better results. One final footnote; scratched records will remain scratched albeit cleaner!

Effective, and worth the price
Was a little unsure if this would work but various reviews made me think it worth a try. I had been using spray and cloth cleaning which didn't quite do the job for some dirty vinyl. Used this, with the supplied cleaning fluid and it made a real difference. However, the 'three' times rotation I felt didn't quite do enough of a clean so added a few more turns for good measure which made a difference. Some have noted a residue after using the wash. So to make sure that the record was clean, after the wash and dry, I sprayed them with some distilled water and wiped off with a lint free cloth and left the records to air dry. When played, the difference is noticeable with improvement in clarity and reduction in clicks and pops. Wiping with distilled water also meant no residue was collected on the needle. So, overall an excellent product and more effective than the spray and wipe products on very dirty records. As I pick up records from second hand stores or other sources where the vinyl can be a bit dirty, it is recommended and it will also breathe some new life into your existing collection

Seems to do the job
I had been pondering on buying the Pro-Ject VC-E, Compact record cleaning machine, the vacuum clean thing but at £329 i just couldn't justify buying as i don't have a massive amount of vinyl, certainly not thousands.I have a reasonable collection of vinyl though and a number of those were in need of a good clean.I decided to buy the Spin Clean MK 2 at a more affordable £81. I was quite skeptical that it would be any better than previous vinyl cleaning methods i've tried but felt like giving it a go.But it really does seem to work.I had a few 7" and 12" vinyl and a few albums that were just in an unlistenable condition.Gave them all a wash with the Spin Clean and now they are much, much better. They now sound pure and clean.Still a bit of crackle on some but i can accept crackle, it's just something you'll always , or often get with vinyl. What i can't accept with vinyl is a muddy or distorted sound. The Spin Clean has fixed all that muddy, & distorted sound. It really does work.Possibly a bit of extra groove noise at times after the clean but i'm not sure now if those particular discs had that noise before anyway, i didn't do a before and after test, should of really.Don't know what the magic formula is in the fluid but it, combined with the brush pads and the de-ionised ( i didn't have any distilled so used de-ionised) water really do clean the records well. £81 though, does seem rather more than you'd expect for a plastic trough, fluid, brushes and cleaning cloths and at one time before when i'd been a bit poorer there's no way i'd have spent that money .So yeah, a bit overpriced but i'm well happy with the results.

Well made unit which does the job.
I had studied the web for people's experiences for vinyl record cleaning before ordering this unit, which arrived the next day well-packed. Two drying cloths supplied but you need more so went out and bought some. I used deionised water from Halfords which was on offer. My tap-water is hard, so would not dream of using that to dilute the cleaning fluid. Assembling the unit is simplicity itself, the brushes being already in place and just needing to add the rollers for the LP's i wanted to wash. I set up a sort of production line for drying the remaining fluid, by putting screwdrivers and brush handles into books on a bookshelf, and those went through the spindle holes of the records to air dry them. I rotated the records in the water bath several times in both directions and then dried the upper half both sides whilst still in the Spin Clean unit. The record was then lifted out and dried the bottom half with the cloths. The visual appearance after drying was like new and in my first batch I processed about 35 records, probably too many based on the crud in the bottom of the water bath. Next time will limit it to about 20 or so and change the water. Although difficult to tell exactly what improvements after washing audibly, I did notice a reduction in surface noise to varying degrees on some records. One Dusty Springfield record I had paid quite a bit for second hand, which looked unplayed visually and perfect, could not be played on either of my two record decks, and they have high quality cartridges, with the second deck a higher tracking weight. After washing and drying, the record played perfectly ! And this on a record where the pick up arm actually skated across the surface when previously in the lead in groove ! So a cautious recommendation for this unit. Will try it again today on another, smaller batch of vinyl LP's. The plastic seems a decent quality. It is easy to set up and not too much problem to use, should last for years. I won't be doing all my records as some don't need it, but I probably will do the majority of my collection. I may try making my own fluid up with isopropyl alcohol diluted, as that can be obtained quite cheaply on Amazon. A small bottle of the Spin Clean fluid is £20 a larger one £30. It seems to work. Drying the unit internally after use is not the easiest job, due to the narrow slot, but I managed it OK. Definitely go and buy some microfibre non -impregnated cloths for drying. The one's supplied get saturated quickly, although I did not prewash them to make them fluffy. The unit is not cheap, and seems a lot of money for what you get but it seems to do the job and is very unlikely to fall apart or break after a few uses. Glad I bought it. Finally, the information in a well-recorded record groove can be staggeringly good. Forget CD's, mp3's , vinyl is the way to go. The cost of vinyl can be relatively low if you use this device and look in Charity shops and second-hand shops.I get a good discount in a second hand shop I visit frequently. I won't be telling my friends I have this unit, otherwise they will expect me to clean their vinyl too !

It works
When I was last into vinyl about forty years ago we used to drag a record out of it's sleeve, dust it off and play it and afterwards we'd just clean any fluff off of the dust collector, aka the stylus. Now I'm back into it and cleaning records is so big its almost an industry in itself. I have been buying up some second hand records and so decided that buying a cleaner was a good idea. I looked at the HumminGuru and the Pro-Ject but the price was too off putting. Even eighty quid for a bit of plastic was daunting but this is what I went for. I decided to ignore the maker's advice and use distilled water as suggested in all the reviews, I also decided that air drying after removing the surface water was also a good idea so I bought this from Amazon too - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B084CT49ZN?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 It holds six records and the rack is plastic coating to prevent scratching the disc. My test record was 'Pirates' by Rickie Lee Jones which I bought from eBay described as excellent condition. The disc did appear to be perfect with no marks or scratches but the first track on side 1 is a piano solo and it had a lot of crackle and pops (no snap!) in the quiet sections. After cleaning I would say that 95% of them had gone so yes I can say that it definitely works well. The whole thing except the velvet brushes is made of plastic and appears to be durable and able to take a knock. Using it is simple but removing the brushes after use is a pain. I watched a YouTube review of a cheaper version of this and the reviewer struggled to get the brushes out afterwards, he also cut his finger on the edge of a record! I found that gentle levering them with the end of a teaspoon made it a lot easier. The unit has four rubber feet and it very stable on a smooth surface like a kitchen workshop and would be hard to inadvertently knock over.

Needs more improvements
What became apparent when first using the spin clean record washer was that in the 30 odd years since it first appeared the manufacturers hadn't addressed the problem of the spinners popping out of their slots. I've overcome this by only using one spinner not both, changing sides depending on whether I'm turning clock or anticlockwise. Also, the cleaning solution seems a bit tacky. I've been using the washer but only putting de-ionised water in the trough. The description that the washer has a set of two microfiber brushes isn't accurate. These are more like felt pads, like the velvet brush with stylus brush you use when remove surface dust from records. And that's the thing. These brushes don't seem to really get in the groove, even when using the solution. A handy system for quickly cleaning up charity shop records, but I wouldn't even think of putting any collectable records in it. The high price seems to be for importing it from Canada. You would think with the increased interest in records that shops like HMV would invest in a professional record cleaning machine. I suppose we can only wait Cheers

It works
By anyone's standards this is a lot of money to pay for a plastic trough, two rollers, two brush pads, a bottle of cleaning fluid and a couple of drying cloths and it's difficult to see how in volume production it can cost a great deal to manufacture. I certainly hesitated for quite a while before committing. The fact is though that it does work, in my case surface contamination was removed and those brush pads are also most efficient at removing dirt from the grooves. After putting a record through the washer there was a noticeable lowering in the floor level of background noise and clicks and pops were much reduced. Obviously nothing will restore a damaged disc to good levels of fidelity but even some of my old singles dating back to the 50s and 60s had a much improved performance level after going through the Spin Clean process.

Give your records the Spinclean treatment
If you don't want to pay £400-£1000 for a record cleaning machine then the Spinclean is the next best thing. At first I was a bit disappointed when opening the box to find that £78 had bought what amounts to a bright yellow plastic box, some cleaning brushes, small bottle of cleaning fluid and some drying cloths. But once you start using it you soon realise how good an investment this is,especially if you own hundreds/thousands of vinyl records. Before using for the first time I did some research on how to get the best out of the Spinclean.Firstly,do not use the supplied drying cloths and cleaning fluid. The cloths tend to shed their fibres rather quickly and the cleaning fluid leaves sticky deposits on a stylus. So I purchased very cheaply some large micro-fibre cloths and a bottle of L'Art du Son record cleaning liquid. Also,do use distilled water as tap water can leave mineral deposits on your vinyl.I would also recommend using a dish drainer/plate rack to place your records to dry once cleaned, and use a tray underneath the rack to catch any drips. Record cleaning will take time so I suggest putting aside a few hours so you can at least get a good batch of say 50 records cleaned. Now to the cleaning process.Fill the Spinclean with distilled water to the fill level, add the required amount of L'Art du Son,position the cleaning brushes and rollers. Now get that first dirty record and place between the brushes.Turn or spin the record 3-4 times clockwise with your hands then anti-clockwise.Take out and dry using a plate rack. You will see the fluid drip around the record label although it's best to keep an eye on any drips that may go over the label.Wipe these off using the cloths that came with the Spinclean. Once you have done about 10 records go and get some refreshment as your records drip dry. Before putting your records back in their sleeves, use micro-fibre cloths to dry each side, going around in the direction of the grooves. Then stand back and admire a clean, shiny record with no fingerprints, hair, dust or mould.I cleaned some records that haven't been played for over 30 years as they were caked with dust and mould and the difference before and after was amazing. To preserve your clean records I recommend placing them in new anti-static sleeves, such as the ones made by Nagaoka The fun bit is when you come to empty the Spinclean and see all the muck that has been taken off your records. You will definitely notice a big audio difference when playing back your clean records. So,yes I can recommend the Spinclean as a good, budget alternative to an RCM.

Ottimo
