Outstanding Personal Guitar Amp.
Cannot praise this device highly enough. It sounds great, and is ridiculously versatile for such a small device, comprising not only Gain, Tone and Volume controls, together with three levels each of effects options Chorus, Delay and Reverb, but also Tremolo Min, Tremolo Max and Tremolo Off. Two AAA batteries are required (included), and give hours of usage. Just plug it into your guitar, attach headphones (decent pair of over-ear type are best, but don't need to be expensive) and, if wishing to practice over a track by your favourite band, simply attach an appropriate device such as a tablet or 'phone. If you require to free your amPlug2 sound from the confines of headphones, Vox also offer a mini, 2 watt, amPlug2 amp/speaker to which you attach your amPlug2 and play out loud (but not loud enough to annoy the neighbours. The wonderful Vox 50 watt amp/cab stack Mini Superbeetle Audio blue tooth speaker also doubles as a guitar amp, complete with amPlug2 compatibility, but at full volume, this would definitely annoy the next door neighbours, and possibly those further afield. The amPlug has given me new found freedom to play and practice without needing to wait for opportunities where it can be done without audibly intruding on the personal space of others in the household. I have subsequently invested in the equally good Classic Rock amPlug2 (and which, on balance, I prefer), together with both the aforementioned Vox Mini amPlug2 cab/speaker and Superbeetle Audio blue tooth amp/speaker stack. Basically, the freedom afforded by the amPlug2 headphone amp has reinvigorated my love of guitar playing, and I try to squeeze in some practice time on a daily basis. I even felt enthused enough to unnecessarily treat myself to a new guitar. This amPlug2 is real value for money, but it has inadvertently cost me a small fortune.

Perfect practice amp
I have previously used the original bass amPlug for a few years and thought it was a useful gadget to have when you wanted to practice without waking the neighbours. This version (AC30) for guitar is a worthy successor and a great improvement over some of the originals drawback. The 180 degree jack input makes recessed or angled jacks far easier to use and allows you to move the headphone jack to whichever angle works best. The inclusion of tremelo and FX (chorus, delay and reverb) is a great addition and really improves versatility of the plug for song practice. Also the use of a push button over a toggle switch for power is a nice touch. Lastly the sound is as awesome as before. With a decent pair of headphones (open backs) you can get a really good Vox tone. Overall a great piece of kit for any guitarist.

Not a bad purchase
Let's me practise very quietly when my housemates are asleep. Decent product. And fairplay, it sounds a lot like an AC-30. Although the AC-30 isn't really my cup of tea. A bit too warm for me. Has plenty of effects and ways to play about and is fairly easy to use. Although I'd say steer away from trying to play anything high gain beyond mild grunge, as it gets super muddy. I tend to use this with my single coil pickup guitars, as my Humbucker ones tend be a bit too high output and it goes muddy as I said. But anyhow, I'd recommend it as something great for practise, portable, and affordable, with plenty of ways to muck about with effects and sounds. Not a bad piece of kit.

Highly impressive
Firstly, a brief history: my beloved Valvestate amp died after about 20 years and I hastily replaced it with a Marshall Code, which I can't make sound as I want to. So I could rarely be bothered to plug in my Gibson SG standard to play. Then I found out about these headphone amps completely by accident and purchased the AC30 version, not expecting too much. But it is amazing! The warmth and richness of sound that comes out of this tiny box is incredible, and while it's not full of bells and whistles the variety achieved just from gain and tone is more than enough for me. Also, the lack of cables and plugs is so liberating, I can wander round the house as I play and be done in seconds. I'm not sure it would be suitable for recording purposes - it might! - but as an aid to practise it's a wonderful sounding bit of kit, at a good price.

Really great device!
I live in a flat where assembling my amp and pedals is a major hassle. Then when I do get everything going, I feel the need to play quieter than I'd like to. Enter the Vox AP2... All I have to do now is plug this little thing into my guitar, stick my headphones into it and away we go. It's sounds GREAT. Fiddle with the dials as you wish and you'll easily find a fantastic sound. I play a Mexican telecaster and it keeps - if not accentuates - it's signature tone, even when playing through the FX. Which are lovely, by the way. Tremolo. Chorus. Reverb. Delay. All with at least 2 intensity settings. The presets they give you are all you need really. And you can use any of the three with tremolo at the same time! I've had a lot of fun putting my iPod into this too, via the aux input. Sounds great, stereo of course, and it just gives you a really easy way to play along to your fav tunes. Personal favourite is sticking the full tremolo and fully delay on over the top of Kiss Me by Ed Sheeran. Sounds great if you get the levels right. For £35 it's incredible. Something you can take with you anywhere.

A perfect practice amplifier substitute in a small package
I purchased this item so that I didn’t have to drag my AC30 amplifier into my small studio every time I wanted to hear the guitar through headphones. I was dubious at first whether it would sound good enough, but after using it for some time now, it gives a great representation of the real amplifier. The sound quality is great, the functions suit their purpose very well and it’s great value for money. I’ve even linked this straight into a PA and it works well. It’s great for practicing and working in a studio environment. You may not be able to adjust the effect parameters, but this isn’t designed for gigging. It reproduces my Gretsch and Fender guitar sounds perfectly.

Does work well but bit overpriced.

Great bit of kit for silent practice
I've had the Vox AC30 AmPlug for a few months now and I've really enjoyed using it. It's so easy to use, all you need is an electric guitar (obviously) and a pair of headphones with a standard 3.5mm jack. It's designed for silent play, so you won't trouble your neighbours. I've got a pair of cheap Sony headphones and it sounds really good in them. It has a nice clean sound and comes with gain, tone and volume controls. You can also toggle through reverb, delay and chorus effects. It looks great too. My only gripe would be that it would be easier to use if the controls were on the underside (my output jack is on the bottom edge of my guitar, so I'm often adjusting things blind). Great piece of kit for under £40, especially if you're just wanting something to practice with. I recently bought an iRig and have been using it with Garageband, but it's nowhere near as good as the Vox AmPlug. It also involves a lot more cables! The AmPlug is literally plug and play.
