Uncover your natural talents with this bestselling assessment from Gallup. Gain insights to develop your strengths and maximize your performance in work and life. Review: Genuinely transformative - Ok, let's be clear. What you're really buying access to is the fantastic online psychometric test. I bought the kindle version of this as it's slightly cheaper. The book itself is fairly short: it contains an intro (about a fifth of the book) which explains the Gallup point of view. This is basically that if we all understood and focussed on our strengths rather than our weaknesses, we would be happier and far, far more productive (after decades of work on this, they have the research to back this up). It's articulated really well, and is really convincing. The rest of the book is a summary of each of the different strengths, including how people with that strength might want to make the most of that strength, and how to work with people like that. But the truth is you don't need to read that for yourself, because when you take the test (relatively short) you get a personalised report on each of your strengths (ok, it's not totally personalised, but it adapted for exactly *how much* you have each strength, and the mixtures you have). And here's where the transformative bit comes in. This personalised report really affected me. When I read some of it, I welled up. I hadn't felt that *got* for ages. And it opened up all sorts of things: I understood why I had left a particular job, which had mostly been a great job, I understood why I was so attracted to the career path I am developing into. And I just know that I will be able to use this going forward. I work as a coach now, and I often recommend this to clients. Mostly they don't do it, because it costs £10 or so, and you can get free psychometric tests about strengths online. But the ones who take it find it transformative, too. It's WAY better than the free ones, and for me the £10 is one of the best £10s I've ever spent. Go on, get it! Review: This has explained and changed my life. - I bought this book on the recommendation of a friend and I'm very glad I did. The book gives you a one time use code that allows you to make up your strengthsfinder 2 account and to take the online quiz. Note: it is better to do the quiz without reading the book first as it may affect how honestly you answer certain questions. Upon taking the quiz it tells you your 5 core strengths and provides a personalised insight into which attributes of these strengths that you exhibit more frequently. It also gives you advice on how to grow in your strengths and recommends careers or activities which will allow you to harness your natural skills. I read my personalised insights and it had described me to a T and even explained why I am motivated and stirred by certain things and what excites me. The book also contains a chapter summarising every one of the strengths so you can refer back to it and your personalised insights are stored online so you can keep going back and reminding yourself of what you're good at. Ideal for anyone who is going through a transitional phase or who just wants to know what they're good at. Also good for helping with career decisions (the personalised insights sometimes offer suggestions of what careers people with certain skills would excel in).

Genuinely transformative
Ok, let's be clear. What you're really buying access to is the fantastic online psychometric test. I bought the kindle version of this as it's slightly cheaper. The book itself is fairly short: it contains an intro (about a fifth of the book) which explains the Gallup point of view. This has explained and changed my life.

Good book for people interested in psychology
I think the book is quite good at judging character. Nice if you're interested in psychology.

Often generic and rather contradictory but then what did you expect?
I bought this book because my boss pretty much insisted on it. Clearly he found the book to be extremely insightful and helpful (so don't read too much into my review). I found the outcome predictable, and not hugely helpful. At the end of the questionnaire (and this really is a questionnaire much more than it is a book) you get a report detailing your top 5 strenghts and characteristics. Some of these characteristics completely contradict and some of the sentences are so vague it is almost comical, such as "It's very likely that you might feel". It is also clear on occasion how one answer to a question (ie one I answered about whether I liked to work with children) drives about half a paragraph of response in the report. I do think this could prove helpful for someone who really has no idea what your strengths are as this may draw it out of you, it will give you some food for thought (if not a lot) and it's not really a lot of money in this day and age for something that has clearly had so much work go into it. On balance I would say that it wasn't really for me, and I agree with some other reviewers that the book is also a waste of paper really, it should be a website only or at least on Kindle as the book really adds nothing extra to the website.

I read pretty much all the reviews before I purchased it
I read pretty much all the reviews before I purchased it. And yes I wanted it for the test. Yet another one, shall I say. For over the years I tried many. I've got a degree in Education, Pedagogy and Social Work. I'm a qualified life coach. Tests are created by people and well, we don't always know it all. So I always take it with a pinch of salt. Like someone before said - all the tests give you some food for thought. Some of them puzzle you - how the hell I'm going to start working in broadcasting after being in a completely different career for so many years??? But this test put a big smile on my face. Why? I'm just trying to figure it out myself. Probably because it really does focus on your strengths whilst cleverly and tactically provides the insight into making the best out of them. I love the way it explains things - both videos and reports gave me a ready to use wording how to talk (and think!) about myself. And an action plan, too. It basically vocalised things I struggle to vocalise myself - giving me confidence that I'm going in the right direction and valuable answer as to - against all the logic - I choose what I choose to do and where to be (in life and career). I've got a kindle version (on android) and it came with a code straight away. Allocate about half an hour, focus and enjoy. I hope you get out of it as much as I did.

Me describió totalmente.

I bought it as part of a leadership program. Its main intent is to find your strengths thru an online assessment, accessed via a unique one-time code included in the book. So, it’s best to buy a new copy. The assessment reveals your top 5 strengths for free, with an option to unlock all 34 by paying extra. In my view, the top 5 are good enough. The book itself describes all 34 strengths in a couple of pages each, so a used copy is still useful for general reference. The only confusing part was the price on Amazon India—it ranged from ₹900 to ₹2400. I got it at the lower price, and it served its purpose well.

I purchased StrengthsFinder for each member of my team and then brought in a facilitator to walk us through our results, our individual strengths, and how we can work better together. The book itself is excellent and insightful, but what really makes it impactful is the action and conversations it sparks. It created a shared language around strengths and helped our team better understand how to collaborate more effectively. Highly recommend — especially when paired with intentional discussion and follow-through.
