KATSU Mini Bench Drill Pillar Press Stand 100W with Fully Adjustable Speed + 6mm Chuck + Electronic Variable Speed Switch

UPDATE 2022: Still going strong after several years of use. Since my first review I'm now using it on hard woods - steamed beech, maple, rosewood. Also used on brass, copper, acrylic, Jesmonite with no problem. If you're trying to push this drill beyond small work, don't expect it to perform like a normal bench drill. I already have one of those for larger work. Tools should be used within it's limitations. Also, get decent quality drill bits to suit the material, these are often more important than the machine itself. I find using half the drill bit (inserted further into the chuck), I can avoid any flexing that can happen with small diameter bits. This is especially helpful with hard slippery materials like end grain woods, acrylic or brass.Excellent so far! I make wooden jewellery, and needed something that drilled perfectly perpendicular holes with a depth of upto 25mm. This does the job with no problems. The drill runs super smooth and solid, and for such a small thing, it thankfully weighs a good amount, so no need for mounting onto a table, I just sit it on a rubber mat.It feels like a solid build except for the speed dial which is a rough flimsy plastic, not a big deal though. There are things I would not do on this. The speed seems excessively fast on the medium setting spindle, and I can see this getting hot if used for long-ish drilling (say for harder materials such as stone). I have mine set on the slowest spindle which is fine for my semi-hard woods, and I also drill by 'wood peckering', going in and out to avoid heating/burning.All said, this is a god send compared to the crappy Dremel workstation drill press I was using before. I was considering the Proxxon mini drill, but that's over £200, so you can imagine my delight when I saw the Katsu for sale at under £50. This really is a great tool when used with consideration and caution.BTW If anyone needs spare parts, there's a UK seller on that well known auction site, selling spare motors, drive belts and even extra chucks for the Katsu drill.

Fantastic piece of kit, great value for money, really well made. Absolutely perfect for smaller jobs.

I purchased this unit for drilling printed circuit boards. The chuck is well manufactured and holds drills down to 0.8mm shank (smallest diameter tested) accurately and squarely with virtually no run-out. There is no quill assembly. The whole motor and drive arrangement moves up and down on a long tubular bearing containing the drill spindle, which contributes to the excellent rigidity of the drill. The pillar and drill action are accurately square to the base in both planes. The depth stop arrangement is a little fiddly, but once set is repeatable. The manual contains a good exploded view of the drill components, but is otherwise next to useless (very poorly translated).The cast base supplied with my drill was not flat, with the centre about 1.5mm lower than the edges. The drill is capable of much better alignment than this, and I put in some work with a file and scraper to improve this. Over-tightening of the height clamp is prevented by a plastic washer between the closing edges (nice touch); unfortunately on my machine it was too thick and prevented the clamp from working properly. A few file strokes fixed this. Overall, the drill benefitted from being stripped down, cleaned and re-lubricated which removed traces of swarf and greatly improved the smoothness of its operation.The metalwork of the drill is properly electrically bonded to the centre pin of the (UK) flat pin plug, unlike some equipment of Chinese manufacture that I have received. The speed control is a simple triac circuit with partial compensation for motor loading. There is no mains suppressor fitted to the power lead, which radiates a lot of electrical noise when the motor is running. A simple filter installed inside the headstock casting fixed this, and is essential if you want to remain on good terms with your neighbours. As delivered, I do not believe that the drill can be compliant with UK/EU EMC regulations. There is no CE marking.Spare drive belts are not available from AIM Tools, but belt material is readily available from model supplies companies if you are prepared to make your own, and at least one UK supplier of small lathe equipment will make up this type of belt to order.Overall, this is a good little machine that that required a bit more work than expected during commissioning. It is excellent for fine work with small drill sizes and very good value for money if you are prepared to put in some initial effort. If you buy one, do fit a mains filter or find an electrician who will install one for you.

This device is designed well and relatively quiet compared to its larger siblings.It's a fairly powerful unit for its size, but don't expect it to perform the tasks of a larger unit this is suitable for hobby work and smaller items but will happily do 7mm holes into hardwood with ease.I have yet to use it on metal but I imagine it'll cope with smaller holes just fine.Easy to adjust speed and torque settings and height of the press from the base.All parts fit well together and the unit is very simple to use. Arrived well packed and overall a sturdy little unit with impressive abilities for its size.

Really nice little drill. Ideal for making PCB,s and small drilling tasks in metal, plastic, etc. Speed control works very well and the drill has no vibration or unpleasant effect. The base and column are very stable which make it a joy to use. I would recommend this to everyone as long as the user respects its size.

I rarely post a product review, but felt the need to do so on this occasion for reasons that will become clear!I took delivery of this pillar drill about an hour ago, and already know I’ve made the right choice. I needed something that I could use for hobby purposes, and as space (& finances!) we’re limited, I decided to buy this (my first ever pillar drill….).Assembly was quick and easy, and even the handle that has caused a few people some frustration, screwed in without problem (you just need to get the angle right!). I’ve seen it suggested that wearing a pair of latex gloves for unpacking/assembly is a good idea, as the items (understandably) have a protective oily coating, and I agree with this. No problem wiping any excess off with kitchen roll/cloth, although mine wasn’t too bad at all.I already had an intended first use for the drill, which was boring 2.5mm holes through a 10mm thick aluminium mount for a nitro engine (to be fitted in a radio controlled helicopter). After ordering the drill, and before it was received, I was looking at YouTube videos and reading all the reviews on it, and started to get the impression that it may not be up to the job as it only has a 100 watt motor - so much so that I nearly cancelled the order. But, I needn’t have worried, and I’m so glad that I didn’t…So, with an old engine mount for testing purposes, I inserted the drill bit & clamped the mount in a drill vice bought yesterday to go with the drill. With a little trepidation (as already mentioned, my first pillar drill), I set the drill to an appropriate speed, and gently drilled down a couple of mm. I then lifted it up, added a little 3 in 1 oil (thanks YouTube!), and drilled down a little more. After repeating this a few times, I was through! It took way less time than I imagined, and the hole was as clean as a whistle - the drilling was very accurate with no wobble whatsoever. I then tapped the hole with an M3 tap (first time ever doing this as well!), and the test was complete. To say I was happy is an understatement!Enough waffle - to summarise, I’m delighted with the drill. Obviously I have no idea of it’s longevity, but it won’t get heavy use, so imagine it will last a very long time. Highly recommended!!

The chuck flew off during use.Watched the how to fit your chuck video sent from the seller but it didn't correspond to my machine.Pushed the chuck on again as firmly as possible but again it came free whilst drilling a wooden dowel.On more than one occasion the drill wouldn't start and had to be unplugged and re plugged in.Overall felt it was unsafe so returned it.

Cheap but pretty rubbish and totally frustrating. Main gripes.SAFETY - There is no emergency OFF switch. You have to turn the speed dial back to off. If you get clothing caught in the drill, your hand will be mangled before you can turn it off.The Height Adjustment mechanism is a simple lever clamp that because of the weight of the drill makes it almost impossible to set easily. You have yo struggle to hold the weight of the drill and get it centred over the hole in the base plate while trying to tighten the clamp at the same time.The depth of drilling is pretty hopeless about 14mm.Very little power. Even drilling wood takes a couple of attempts.Would NOT RECOMMEND

Einfache Bauweise und für den Preis lohnte sich keine proxon.

La perceuse est arrivé plus tôt que prévu et j'ai déjà pas mal bossé dessus.Dégraissé et monté en 8mn, je l'aibranché avec empressement pour voir son fonctionnement ,elle a tourné 10 secondes et mauvaise surprisela courroie a cassé et est parti à grande vitesse ( le capot étant sorti) dans le garage ou j'ai eu eu du mal à la retrouvé.Je suis éléctronicien de métier donc j'ai pas eu de soucis particulier pour remédier à ce problème.En effet j'ai ressouder la courroie car je suis équiper pour faire celà et une fois remonté, rebelote cette fois -ci30 secondes après elle casse ou du moins s'est déssoudé.Je me suis rendu compte que la courroie était un peu raide et que le petit enroulement de la poulie du moteur sollicitait énormément la courroie à la soudure.le Diametre de la courroie fait 4mm et j' avais une courroie dans mes archives de 3mm qui remplissait suffisament la gorge des poulies, donc fabriquer et monté et là ça tourne et longtemp (1 heure non stop).De plus la courroie étant plus souple j'ai gagné en puissanse sans patiner, si les poulies reste froides ça patinne pas.Pour les bricoleurs on trouve de la courroie thermosoudable Polyuréthane sur ce même site,préféré non pas la lisse mais la rugueuse.Sinon comme on peu voit sur la photo, j'ai ajouté un inter car j'ai des doutes sur la durabilité du contact marche,arrêt du potard et fixé un petit aimant pour la clé du mandrin.Par contre la machine arrive bien huilé extèrieurement mais pas intèrireument.pensez à graisser la crémaillere de la colonne car elle à jamais vu la moindre graisse et mettre de l' huile fine sur la colone une fois celle-ci sorti à fond et aussi bien huiler la collerette supèrieure du mandrin car il gratte désagréablement.Sinon je suis très satisfait de cette machine malgrès ces petits détails qui ne sont pas insurmontables.Au fait elle est arrivé avec la prise européenne.Au plaisir

Arrivato oggi 09/01/17 e già messo in funzione, ottimo mini trapano a colonna essendo compatto e ottimo per chi abita in appartamento come me, preciso con punte inferiori a 1mm ,io lo utilizzato su vetronite/rame per realizzare circuiti elettronici ,sono veramente soddisfatto naturalmente non aspettatevi di bucare ferro con punte da 6 perché pur al minimo a sempre molti giri al minuto 5000.Cinghia e un semplice or regolabile in tre posizioni e più a un regolatore di velocità elettrico .Imballaggio ottimo arriva con scatola cartone alloggiato con il suo polistirolo.Consegna nei tempi previsti. Attenzione comprate un adattatore presa (INGLESE/ITALIANA) con pochi euro ,perché arriva con la spina inglese.

tres bon outil de percage, mon probleme vient de l'accesssoire de mordache non adapté, sinon tres robuste et pratique pour du percage de bricolage dans de multiples materiaux

Leuke klijne mini kolomboor machine. Die voldoet aan mijn verwachting voor gebruik binnen mijn hobby's.Alleen jammer dat er geen reserve riem/snaar wordt bijgeleverd voor de variabel verstelbare snelheid op de poelies.En dit bij verschillende soortgelijke machines wel gebeurt van een ander merk.En helaas bij Amazon een losse siliconen riem/snaar ook niet te vinden is voor deze Katsu mini kolomboormachine.
