Easy to apply

Easy to use, but does require more than one coat to give a decent finish

Very easy to use and rejuvenated my garden chairs.

I found this wood stain really easy to use and very effective. I’ve posted three photos. The first is the chair before I started. I’d sanded it down as it had been previously stained. The second photo is after one coat and the final photo is after two coats all over but three coats on the seat, backrest and arms. I’m really pleased with the finish. I like the deep rich colour of the dark oak. I think as my wooden furniture gets older it maybe looks better with a darker colour as it covers a multitude of marks. This colour has made the chairs look almost new and I’m glad went for it. So you do need a flake free surface before you start but if it’s plain new wood you can start without any preparation. Give the tin a good shake or stir it well and I used an ordinary paintbrush. I suppose you could use a cloth but you would get really messy as it’s fairly thin consistency. I did it on a nice sunny day and it was touch dry inside 30 minutes. It says you can put the next coat on after 4 hrs. I did wait as per the instructions. So across a couple of days I managed to get two chairs fully stained. To do these chairs it took half a tin so I will have enough to re do them again next year. I love the fact you wash the brush out in warm water so very easy to clean up after. Once finished I noted that water sits on the top of the stain in droplets so it’s great protection for the Great British summer when we are bound to get plenty of rain. I’ve not used this make of stain before but I’d be really happy to choose it again. No issues and does a great job. It was also cheaper than stains I’ve used in the past and yet does an equally good job. Very pleased I tried it.

Does what it says on the tin !

Decent stain produced. Made some new slats for my garden bench. The 3 photos show the 3 coats I applied, with a light sanding before the third. Keep stiring the tin as it does seperate quite quickly as it's fairly thin. Don't apply it too thick, it's not paint. I used about half a tin on them.

Not great but does the job.

It's not bad stuff once you get the application right. I've supplied a photo of the desk I made. Its built from pine which is notorious for blotching when being stained. I did a lot of test pieces first before committing the stain to my desk. To get the best application I found that applying a shellac sanding sealer mixed down with a bit if turps to the timber first worked best. It really helped in limiting the ugly blotching you get on pine. Just one thing coat was enough.Once shellac is dry after a minute I then used a foam brush to apply a thing coat of stain. It's important with this stain to apply it with the grain or you'll get a weird look to it if you aren't paying attention. The application strokes need to be accurate with the grain.Once the hole area had a layer of stain I then went back over the stain every few minutes with the foam brush just to skim off the excess. I found this gave the best results.Once dried I repeated the same process for several more coats for my desired affect. It's not the easiest stain to work with but it does the job.I would ge inclined to have a look for a different stain next time round but would fall back onto this stain if I couldn't find anything that was a little easier to apply.

Does the job

I've used this brand of wood stain before on some slats for a garden bench. I previously used light oak but it doesn't seem available in large tins anymore. As it turns out I like the dark oak just as much. It's easy to apply and gives pretty good coverage. I'm not an expert painter but it has turned out well.It says to leave a few hours between coats but left overnight, it seems well dry. It's water based so it doesn't stink the garage out when applying.
