Is this too young for an almost-3 year old?

I think that depends on what the 3 year old can do. If they have not done threading before it's perfect. The beads are large so if they are dextrous yes it will be too young. It's a lovely set though.

can't measure them at moment as away from home but they are big enough to stop children putting them in mouth. We go them for my daughter who has down syndrome and tends to put everything in mouth and they are good size for her to handle for fine motor skills. probably small plum size or large chestnut size. These were perfect for her to thread and I would recommend them. hope this helps.
