In this comic book/graphic novel adaptation set one hundred years before the events in George R.R. Martin’s epic fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Hedge Knight chronicles a young squire as he travels the cruel and complex path to knighthood in the Seven Kingdoms. Shouldering his fallen master’s sword and shield, Duncan (or “Dunk”) is determined to reinvent himself as a knight in a nearby tournament. But first Dunk needs a sponsor, and that requirement sends him down a road studded with friends, foes, adventure, and hidden agendas. One such friend is Egg, who becomes Dunk’s squire, yet even he may hold secret motivations of his own. In this gripping prequel, Dunk and Egg seek glory in a world both familiar and new to Game of Thrones fans. What the two fortune seekers encounter, however, is a world of distrust and political machinations. Chivalry is not lost while Dunk holds fast to his dreams of honor. But such outdated virtues make him a target―and they may even lead to his ruin. This vivid and elaborately wrought tale brings new dimension to George R. R. Martin’s beloved world. This edition includes fifteen pages of new supplemental material: sketches, character designs, and original pages by Mike S. Miller, plus variant and original covers. Review: fabulous - Once you get the hang of highlighting the frames,(simply move your thumb lightly on the side of the page and the frames will appear sequentially), this is wonderful. The art work is very good and the story loses little from the actual novel. What is gained is a different experience and a thoroughly enjoyable one. All the graphic novels I have glanced through in bookstores pale into insignificance with this elegant and exciting presentation. Recommended to anyone who needs more GMM whilst waiting for the next instalment. Review: Excellent graphic novel! - This excellent tale from the redoubtable George RR Martin is beautifully illustrated by Ben Avery. A mighty collaboration. So why only 4 stars? Surely it rates 5? Well, maybe it does. It might just be me, but I experienced some hesitation in following the text bubble sequence. Something did not flow easily for me - not as it would normally when reading this sort of book. And I do read a lot of books. Hopefully this will not reduce your enjoyment, but it did mine, a bit. Hence 4 stars. Be interested if others find the text bubble arrangement problematic. Comments invited. If you enjoy the works of Ben Avery or GRRM, this will probably suit you really well, since both do an excellent job here. I am waiting eagerly for the paperback edition of the next in the series: Sworn Sword (The Hedge Knight): 2 Of course, you could always go for the hardback version: Sworn Sword (The Hedge Knight): 2 "Hedge Knight" is recommended for its beautifully detailed depiction of a story of knightly valour and human values.

Hedge knight you’ve got to start somewhere, with a keen belief in yourself! Despite the odds.
Game of thrones not taken too seriously, great fun and a firm base for the future.

HEDGE KNIGHT
It was Ok, I am not a big fan of graphic novels and only read it because I wanted to know more of Westeros' back story. I would have preferred to be reading the next game of thrones book but this was better than nothing. I found the g. novel a bit fiddly to read on kindle, but never mind. It passed an hour on the train.

Graphic novel done well
We can expect Martin’s writing to be excellent, but I had not read any of his graphic novels before. A good story and set well within the world of the Game of Thrones. I loved it

great for any asoiaf fan
It took me a while to get into this. It's a different time than what we're used to in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" world what with this being a prequel, and it was very hard to adjust to that. Seeing that ancestors of the people we're used to reading about instead of them - it's a bit weird to begin with. Especially when I felt like we were thrust right in the middle of the story. Not that I'm complaining because I didn't really want to read pointless drivel about Dunk's time with the old knight he squired for... I just think it started rather suddenly. Like in the middle of a thought instead of easing us in. But the story was nice, addictive once I started and I think it wouldn't have taken me 3 days to read had I read it in paperback. But it was my iPad and it was weird, reading a graphic novel on that kind of device

Awesome
Absolutely loved it. GRRM's plot of ASoIaF is so vast that it provides numerous story opportunities based on timelines and regions. This is a prequel story set in Ashford (within the seven kingdoms only) around 100 years prior to current ASoIaF events. An uncommon story of a common hedge knight "Duncan The Tall" and his squire "Egg". This is a graphic novel adaption of the novella by the same title, there are 2 similar sequel novella with Dunk & Egg's adventures and how it affected the entire seven kingdoms. This is the beginning of all that. A beautiful and almost perfect graphical adaptation which includes all the interesting points from the actual book with awesome illustration. I love the story, it's so simple yet interesting and since you know the entire history and traditions of seven kingdoms already so it picks up from the first page itself. The end had the scope of another interesting stories in the future, which turned out to be reality. Overall it's an awesome book for ASoIaF fans.

Entertaining read, great value
The paperback edition of this book is excellent quality considering the very low price. Solid story - I'll definitely be buying the follow-up paperbacks.

Awesome comic and awesome price!
I'm not sure why anyone would buy this thinking that its anything other than the comic; thats why we READ the product description first and/or/maybe the title? Anyways, I received this very promptly via Amazon Prime, and am much pleased by the purchase. The illustrations are beautiful and rich in colour and the pages are of good quality. Its an excellent graphic adaptation of GRRM's Hedge Knight and would recommend this product for those who are big fans of the Ice and Fire series as well as George R. R. Martin's work.
