Briton 121CE.SES CE Closer: Fixed Size 3 for Fire Doors, Silver

Briton 121CE SES size 3 door closer: Bought this as previous door closer gave up after 28 years. This Briton model is heavy duty and you immediately notice the quality. There is a paper template which I attached by tape to the corner of the door and this indicates where to drill 4 holes. I used and B&D but you could use a hand tool. The top part of the device comes apart for ease of fitting and it is bolted to the top of the main unit. The top arm of the pivot is screwed to the door frame exactly 50mm from centre of the screw position on the main unit. The template shows you where this is screwed so simply study the template and follow it. The two halves of the pivoting bar are then cliked back together again and hey presto apart from fitting a plastic cap over the lower bolt of the cam the job is done. You can adjust the pressure of the cam but I found it was ok and its a brilliant piece of kit. Made such a difference

Bought this for the connecting fire door between our Garage and the kitchen. Which always slammed shut if not held. Fitting instructions to be honest could do with improving, as you can see from the downloadable version top of this page. Adjusting the tension was the reverse of what i am used to, usually i expect that turning a screw anti clockwise would take off the tension but its the reverse. Turn clockwise and the door slows down considerably. I would have given it 5 stars except for the instructions. But would otherwise recommend, good value for money.

What a super purchase . No more door banging , I only wish I installed it years ago. I looked at a YouTube video , this made choosing the correct installation method easier and it only took 10 minutes to install , absolutely brilliant in every regard. Very happy customer

Came very quickly, excellent service there and seems ok. We bought this as I was fed up of hubby leaving the door open on our draughty old cottage. You guessed it, the wind whips right over to my chair.... I thought about a tape loop of 'SHUT THE DOOR' but the dog and cats weren't impressed and it would interrupt the radio. It's not yet installed - he started closing the door once 'Brian' (our nickname for the Briton) was sitting on the table looking at him..... Like a placebo - if it works, don't knock it :D

I read many of the reviews before purchasing this item and noted the instructions were a problem for many. I have to say I agree there is no worded instructions merely illustrations and several of them depending what sort of fixing is required and which way the door is hinged. As someone with a mechanical mind I also had to spend rather a long while trying to establish with set of instructions to follow. The screw list on the illustration did not match the number of screws sent out and there were supposed to be 8 of one type but there was only 7 and they were not on any of the illustrations to use so no idea what they were all about there are only 6 screws required which were sent. Once fitted it took a while to set the tension of the door closer correctly rather over sensitive screw adjustments turn slightly one way and it takes ages to close the door, ease it off a fraction and it slams. Overall not bad value for money but be prepared to spend time sorting out which set of illustrations to use and setting it up

Very simple and very clear instructions including a fitting template which made life very easy. Worked a treat right from the start with default settings for closing power working just fine and requiring only 3 twists on the length adjuster before the 2 parts clicked together, after screwing them to the door and frame.

Maybe it's just me, but I have followed instructions easy to fit, but nearly takes you out as it what's shut, could take the cats head off, I have turned the setting screws this way and that way, a bit, and a lot, carefully, and thoughrally. Bought to ensure the eatery door gets closed, and doesn't let the cold into the house. It definitely does that job, but I think the kids are so cross with the door, that they want to leave home! It's worth a try!
