how powerfull is the motor

There is a small blade rotary blender (similar to what you have in a hand blender). It is used only for chopping up the contents of your soup. It is not an agitator and only operates for a short time once the food is cooked. The motor that drives it is quite adequate for the task. If there was a motorised agitator at the bottom of the soup maker it would be perfect.

Can you cook lentils split peas and barley with the vegtables

Hi Jennifer.Use Fairy liquid.A few drops in the maker .Add baking soda then hot water,leave to simmer in pot for a few mins,rinse and then add more baking soda and clean with a brush and double sided sponge should come up great.If it is too burnt repeat
