Seagate 3TB Expansion Desktop Ext HDD

A god send for my 500gb PS4. Works perfectly and currently leaving all my games installed is quality. The set up is straight forward and you can get all the help you need online through YouTube or forums. It does require a socket to power, and must been connected to the PS4 using a USB cable, which will take up one of your ports permanently. The only problem I've encountered is not being able to wear my gaming headset and play guitar hero at the same time, as both require a USB port. Other than that, it's well worth the money. Size is nice as well, and looks like a decent bit of kit. Been using for about a month now, would recommend to any PS4 gamer who wants more than 4 games installed at once.

In the situation that i use this (always plugged in to my xbox one as an external hard drive rather than constantly being moved as a portable hard drive) this has been an excellent storage device that was very easy to set up and has never given me any problems. *Warning* My PERSONAL opinion upon inspecting the sockets and design of this product is that they are prone to wearing out and breaking very quickly if the device is plugged and unplugged alot (ie if it's being used as a portable HDD rather than a permanent expansion) so be forewarned that it's really not suited to the role of "portable" **EDIT** it's now 2022 and i've been using the same external drive daily since 2015 , the reason for the edit is that i think it's finally dying as i've had a couple of disk write errors and several files lost due to corruption. Literally could not have asked more from this equipment and i'll be looking to get whatever the current version is to continue on my external HDD needs. You have my sympathies if you've had a bad experience with this line of external/portable HDDs but in my experience the reliability has been top notch

Seagate comes with a big reputation, and for me personally they will always be an extremely solid choice. The fact that all Mac hardrives are supplied by Seagate is a big box tick for me. This drive is no different, it's really fast, reliable, small (smaller than you think) and is really great value for money. I use this drive to back up really large photo and video projects and so far I have nothing to complain about! Pros - Huge storage - Well made - USB 3.0 is very fast - Really pretty new design - Small and discreet Cons - Can be slightly loud, however, it's a physical HD so these will always make noise as there is a disc physically spinning inside! Seagate doesn't have it's reputation for reliability and value for money for no good reason. I would recommend any Seagate product and will be a fan for life!

If you want this drive to suspend when not in use or when you switch off a device it's connected to you will need to download the "Seagate Drive Settings" tool from here: [...] (Link removed by Amazon!! - Just search for 'Seagate Drive Settings' and make sure it's the tool for external drives.) For some bizarre reason my 3TB drive was set to be permanently on/spinning! This software tool didn't work on Windows 10, even in Win 7 emulation mode, but did work on my Windows 7 Professional PC. You can turn off the LED as well as set how long before the drive switches off when idle, starts from 3 min, I set mine to 5 min. I also noticed that it now turns off when I suspend my media box which it didn't before I changed the settings. I was going to send this back as it isn't silent although to be honest it's pretty quiet but it's seeming inability to suspend when not in use really annoyed me. Luckily I found the Seagate settings tool and all seems fine now, fingers crossed it has performance and longevity as well. I almost gave this 4 Stars because I had to p*** about but now I've figured out the fix, for all of us, I've decided to give it 5 as it is cheap and seems to be working fine, and it's pretty quiet. May update in the event of anything good or bad!

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE I'm a graphic designer and avid photographer so storage space is always a problem. This drive works perfectly with my mac and with USB 3.0 is lightning fast. I've partitioned mine 4 times and it works perfectly. If you have a windows PC there are a few additional pieces of software included with the drive, such as a back up agent. I have used seagate expansion drives for a few years now and have only good things to say. They are sturdy (although I don't go throwing mine around) and light weight which is handy if like myself you take it everywhere with you. It is also very quiet when running at full pelt. I use it as a scratch disk for video editing which gives you an idea of its speed and performance. APPEARANCE Aesthetically this generation of expansion drive is very nice to look at but feels a little cheap unlike its predecessor which had an aluminum case. I cant say how this effects it's cooling system but if I know anything it's that aluminium conduct heat better than plastic. STORAGE The one thing I don't like is the fact that it is designed to stand up on its end and a narrow end at that. I have had a Western Digital MyBook topple over onto my desk in the past and completely wrote off the drive so you can understand my concern with ever storing a drive the same way again. The drive only has rummer feet on it's narrow end so it may get scuffed when lying down. I'd recommend buying some felt pads to protect it. If your unsure which way up the HDD needs sit use the label on the back (with one with the serial number) and ensure the text is up right. Siparişten önce kargo şirketi ve Amazon Türkiye'den yaptığım ilk alışveriş olması sebebiyle şüphelerim vardı, fakat sonuç; hızlı kargo, sorunsuz ürün. Ilk 2 günde 1,5 tb veri attım, 100mb/sn nin altına düşmedi. Aşırı sesli değil. Bilgisayar da direkt tanıdı. Alışverişten memnunum, tavsiye ederim.

Black Friday indirimi ile aldık, hızlı, eksiksiz ve sorunsuz geldi. Bilgisayara tanıtmak hiç problem olmadı. Isınmadı, gürültülü değil. Hızı depolama için uygun. Birkaç gündür kullanıyoruz hiç problem yaşamadık. Memnunuz.

Mis impresiones hasta ahora: - Los materiales son de calidad, buena estética. - Se calienta muy poco. - El medidor de consumo eléctrico me da valores entre 4w y 7w, dependiendo de la carga que tenga en cada momento. 0w en reposo. - No es ruidoso, lo tengo a un par de metros del ordenador y creo que no lo he escuchado nunca. - Lo tengo encendido 24/7 desde hace más de una semana. Está conectado a una Banana Pro (tipo Raspberry), funcionando como servidor de ficheros y cliente torrent (rtorrent). De momento todo bien, pero como con cualquier disco duro, a la larga se verá si fue buena inversión. Si da algún tipo de problemas actualizaré la opinión. Lo recomiendo.

Ich habe mir kürzlich zwei Expansion-Disks angeschafft, eine mit 4 TB und eine mit 3 TB (relativ willkürlich, da es für diese Kapazitäten gerade wirklich günstige Angebote gab - in der Summe musste ich für 7 TB gerade mal 172 Euro ausgeben, das ist pro TB sogar noch weniger als bei der - sonst wirklich günstigen - Seagate 8 TB Archive HDD). Ich suchte externe Festplatten, die ich per USB an mein Synology DS-214j anschließen kann, um dessen Kapazität zu erweitern. Hierfür sind die Seagate Expansion Desktop-Festplatten perfekt geeignet. "Out of the box" habe ich sie ohne weitere Maßnahmen direkt angeschlossen; am DS-214j geht das leider nur per USB 2.0, aber das stört mich wenig, da auf diesen Platten eh nur Videodateien archiviert, also einmal geschrieben und dann gestreamt werden. Das NAS erkennt die werksseitige NTFS-Formatierung sofort und stellt wie bei den NAS-internen Platten eine Netzwerkfreigabe zur Verfügung, die nur noch im Client-Betriebssystem (z.B. Windows) eingerichtet werden muss, und fertig. Eine Sache von fünf Minuten. (Per USB angeschlossene Festplatten können allerdings nicht in einen Verbund (RAID) mit den NAS-internen Festplatten aufgenommen werden, sondern nur "JBOD-mäßig" betrieben werden. Das ist eine grundsätzliche NAS-interne Einschränkung und hat mit Marke und Modell der USB-Platte nichts zu tun.) Ebenfalls sehr wichtig: Wird auf die Platte nicht zugegriffen, schaltet sie sich nach wenigen Minuten in den stromsparenden Standby und wird automatisch wieder geweckt, sobald auf sie zugegriffen wird. Das funktioniert am Synology-NAS zuverlässig, was keine Selbstverständlichkeit ist (manche Controller-Chips bereiten in dieser Beziehung wohl Probleme). Die Übertragungsraten entsprechen dem, was über USB 2.0 üblich ist (d.h. so um die 40 MB/s). Die Platte wäre an einer USB 3.0-Schnittstelle deutlich schneller, aber in meinem Anwendungsfall ist der USB 2.0-Anschluss natürlich der Flaschenhals. Was die oft kritisierte Lautstärke angeht: Kann ich nicht nachvollziehen. Bei mir stehen die Platten auf dem Laminatboden unter dem Schreibtisch, und das Einzige, was ich wirklich wahrnehme, ist das Anlaufen der Platten, wenn sie aus dem Standby geweckt werden. Schreib-/ Lese- oder sonstige Betriebsgeräusche sind (zumindest in meiner Konstallation) so gut wie nicht zu hören (zumindest nicht schlimmer als bei anderen Platten, ich habe z.B. noch einen ganzen Haufen WD Green und WD Red, teilweise im NAS, teilweise als externe USB-Platten). Meines Erachtens kein Grund, diese Platte nicht zu kaufen. Von meiner Seite daher eine volle Empfehlung. Preiswerte externe Festplatte, insbesondere auch zur Aufrüstung eines Synology-NAS geeignet. *** Update am 04.03.2016: Mir war erst später beim ersten Film-Streamen aufgefallen, dass ich alle 20 Minuten kurze Aussetzer (ca. 10 Sek.) im Film hatte. Nicht ganz zufällig waren die 20 Minuten die Zeitspanne, nach der das NAS die Platte in den Standby fahren wollte. Sprich: Der Standby wurde vom NAS (nicht vom platteninternen Mechanismus) gesteuert. Warum das NAS, wenn es alle 20 Minuten (Default-Einstellung) prüft, ob die Platte in den Standby gefahren werden kann oder weiterlaufen muss, den Datenfluss kurzzeitig anhalten muss, erschließt sich mir nicht (könnte ein Fehler des NAS-OS (DSM) sein), aber es ist mal so. Ich habe dann den platteninternen Standby gecheckt (HDDs an PC anschließen, "Seagate Drive Utilities" (von der Seagate-HP geladen) ausführen): Dieser war bei beiden Platten aus (ist wahrscheinlich werksseitiger Default). Eine Einstellung von jeweils 1 Stunde plattenintern und NAS-seitig führte nun freilich dazu, dass beide Platten gar nicht mehr in den Standby fuhren. Ich habe dann die platteninternen Mechanismen wieder deaktiviert und im NAS eine Standby-Zeit von 3 Stunden eingestellt. Das funktioniert dann wieder und reicht für die allermeisten Filmlängen, um diese ohne Unterbrechung zu streamen, und da ich längst nicht jeden Tag auf die Platten zugreife, stört es mich auch nicht, wenn die mal ein paar Stunden "nachlaufen". Eventuell ist durch andere Einstellungen (z.B. NAS-Mechanismus aus, nur platteninternen Mechanismus aktivieren) eine günstigere Einstellung hinzubekommen, aber die Zeit zum Experimentieren war mir zu schade, deshalb dies einfach als Hinweis für experimentierfreudigere Naturen. :-) ***

Buenas, Me decidí por esta unidad pues por trabajo necesité ampliar de una forma más "bestia" los backup que voy haciendo. Y Seagate ha sido siempre una marca de discos duros fiables de ahí que me fijara en este producto. Lo cogí de 3,5", pues son más resistentes / duraderos y como lo voy a usar para guardar archivos importantes veo importante este punto. No trae botón de encendido y he visto comentarios negativos por ello, pero yo personalmente no veo que sea algo malo pues si no se usa se pone en reposo y cuando le vuelves a dar se reactiva. He puesto varias fotos pues viene muy completo en cuanto a cables. Aparte tenéis una foto tumbado con una SD encima para que os hagáis una idea del tamaño. Y estéticamente en vertical queda muy bien. A nivel de instalación tardó 10 segundos y ya estaba listo para usarse. Su velocidad de transferencia usando USB 3.0 es de 54 / 70 megas por segundo de media. Resumiendo si estáis pensando en una unidad externa de calidad, ésta es una buena compra.
