The Easy Way to Solder Leads
I purchased this solder paste to assist in quickly soldering the ends of leads for various applications covering industrial, domestic and musical applications. I have always found that when using a reasonably hot soldering iron it is sometimes not easy to add solder to the end of a lead as the usual scenario is that the insulation starts to melt on the cable before the multicore solder flux can run down and prepare the cable for the solder. Sometimes the cable that you are soldering may not contact the heat as efficiently as it should and also the cable may be old and tarnished, but using solder paste makes life much easier. I have always found that dipping the prepared tip of the cable into a good quality soldering paste is the easiest way of producing the best results and when you touch the tip of the cable with the molten solder on the iron, the solder immediately runs down into the cores of the cable with very little deformation of the insulation. Of course this does depend on the type and quality of the cable and insulation, the worst I have found is on low cost audio cable as the slightest overheating causes the cable to melt through the wall of the insulation, also budget Din plugs and sockets usually will take very little heat without deforming and when soldering multicore plugs it is very easy to overheat the pins and they start to become unstable and loose. I have found that this solder paste is very good quality and does what it says on the tin, I have used it to make up several set of leads from computer to musical instrument and some appliance connections. The secret when soldering on all types of leads is use as little heat duration as possible and with the use of a good quality paste applied to the very tip of the cable or contact being soldered helps greatly in reducing the time spent soldering the end of the cable or the contact, a very good product and highly recommended.

not as in the picture, but it works the way I was hoping for
I was afraid that it wouldn't work, accordingly to the negative reviews. But it does. Here are some details: - it's not as in the picture: it's a lot darker, a little transparent, it looks like a very thick and dark acacia honey or barley malt syrup (B006664EWM), except it's not liquid at all (it won't flow if you put it upside down). Be reassured, it's not hard either, so it's very easy to dip the tip of a wire in it (there's less resistance than room temperature butter). - it works: when I don't use it, I have a hard time making the tin go where I want it to go (it will often not stick on the first attempts). When I do use it, it's so much easier, the tin will go right where it's supposed to go! - surprisingly, it doesn't stink too much when it's heated by the melted tin (I was prepared for the worst). - applying it to something you can't dip it in requires that you use a tool (for example, a pencil shaped thingy that will let you put some paste on the thing that's supposed to be tined). - don't use too much of it but just the required quantity, or you'll have to remove the exceedance afterwards, which is not a very pleasant task to do, so just save yourself the trouble. Actually, you should put as little paste as possible, because the exceeding paste will just melt (due to the heat) and you'll have to remove it afterwards. It's a lot better that you put just the right amount, which will just evaporate when the tin comes. - I don't know if it's the same product for every seller, mine was "Sold by ADL Wholesale and Fulfilled by Amazon." - The box is indeed half empty, but I guess the 30g of paste are present... Anyways it will probably take me years to finish it, so I don't really care.
