Branston Pickle 520g

What is it? Maybe you're not British if you're asking that. It's a traditional sweet-and-tangy condiment made from diced vegetables (carrot, rutabaga/swede, onion, and cauliflower) preserved in a rich, sweet, tangy sauce. Good for, Cheese sandwiches, baked potatoes, Sheppard's pie, burgers, you can go ahead and put it on anything. Might want to get two jars, it goes pretty quick.

Delicious stuff, ten out of ten, highly recommended if you like pickle! This was so good on a grilled ham and cheese sandwich.

Excellent taste. Not easily available locally, so mail order the way to go. If you order, check the contents upon arrival. I ordered 3 jars...poorly packed. When they arrived, 2 of the 3 jars had the edges of the lids jammed and dented, and the seal button was popped on the lid. I requested a refund and Amazon promptly did so. If they were better packed, this would have been a non-issue. But the product is excellent. Put it on pork. On sandwiches. Hey, I even eat it by the spoonful from the jar.....

Product had been opened, tasted and resealed in bubble wrap.

Let me start by saying that I gave Branston Pickle 5 out of 5 stars because I couldn't choose 6 out of 5. You may think that this is pricey for a sandwich spread because it's more expensive than mustard. But that's like asking why a Ferrari costs more than a tricycle. You only think that because you don't know what sandwich spreads can be. If you ate Branston Pickle by itself, say, with a spoon, late at night, in your underwear, standing in front of my refrigerator, it would be pleasant but a bit salty. When you apply it to a well constructed sandwich though the Branston Pickle and the sandwich become something else entirely. The sandwich, and perhaps you, are transported to a magical land where flavors aren't just born on your tongue but bloom in your mind. The vegetable morsels of the spread provide a satisfying crunch as you work through your divinely inspired sandwich. The saltiness completes the lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise triumvirate that lays across the top of your sandwich. A gateway to enlightenment opens in your being. Angels sing. Unicorns whinny. Munchkins sing for you to follow the yellow brick road to Branstonville. Even though this item is for a stately 18 ounce jar you will find yourself aware of how easily it runs out. Once you eat a dose of Branston Pickle you will spend your days and nights dreaming of what other foods deserve its delicious blessing. You will happily try it on any and all foods available. That is good and just but be warned the jar is finite and every lovely sample puts you one bite closer to a home without Branston Pickle. Just know that here and now, with your cursor poised over the "Add to cart" button, you can delay the inevitable by first changing the quantity to 2. It will make your life that much better. Know that when you reach the bottom of that jar, your last jar of Branston Pickle, the only thing saltier than that amazing spread will be the warm tears rolling down your cheeks. Purchase wisely.

I love this stuff. My wife and adult kids hate it. I guess this is mostly for people with some English blood in them as I do. Tastes as good as it always does. Thanks.

My wife and I first visited England (together) twenty years ago. Our London Blue Badge Guide was the wife of a Brigadier General and she was nevertheless ecstatic about Branston Pickle as an accompaniment to the classic pub Ploughman's Lunch of bread and cheese. We took her advice and brought a few jars back with us. I have spent serious time trying to replicate the recipe before giving up and just buying the product on line. Many condiments may be 'as good' with real ham or with farmhouse cheese but none are better. Should you love 'tourism for the tastebuds' this is about as good as it gets for Anglophiles. It is a simple product that is well and honestly made. The contrast between the silky binder (with its date-based sweetness) and the very difficult to achieve at home crunch of the vegetables keeps me reordering this item. Okay...I like British farmhouse cheddar...but this is fine with moderately-aged Spanish Manchego or with Stilton or other quality blue cheeses.

Got a taste of Branston Pickle in a charcuterie dish at my fave Brit pub. When I saw it here the description mentions how it goes classically with cheddar cheese, and BAM! I ordered it! Even though it's the expensive way to go. It's basically a Brit chutney. The caramelized onion and sweet, vinegary flavour is unusual, but give it a chance with a slice of antique cheddar and a crust of bread. Makes an excellent midnight snack. Yummo!

日本では馴染みのない商品ですが、イギリスではチェダーチーズと一緒にサンドウィッチに挟んだりロースト肉に付けて食べるみじん切り野菜のピクルスです。味は甘酸っぱいソース味で、上記のイギリス料理にはもちろん、お好み焼きにも合いそうな味がします。 このピクルス、作っている企業をミツカンが買収した為、なんとこれミツカンさんが出してる商品なんですが日本では売っていません。日本で買えないものかミツカンに問い合わせたんですが、発売予定ないということです。がっかり…。イギリスの商品ですが、日本人の口に合う味だと思いますし癖になります。将来的にはスーパーでも買える商品になってほしい。お願いします。ミツカンさん。それまではAmazonの並行輸入使います…
