Seagate Expansion Desktop, 4TB, External Hard Drive, USB 3.0, 2 year Rescue Services (STKP4000402)

I purchased this from Amazon to help save copies of my photos and videos from my old 500GB iMac, which had lots of them and for technical reasons could not back them up via iCloud. This item from Seagate works well with Apple iMacs and other apple products so I had no issues. This hard drive can back up data from PC and laptops, but requires a bit of formatting for iMac before being used for data storage. This item has 2TB, which is more then enough for me as I had used just more then half of the storage. I had no problems with this whatsoever and it helped create a copy of each photo and video by simply selecting the file and dragging it in just as advertised and the USB 3.0 cable that comes with it is short but very effective. Glad I got this product and would recommend this or larger capacity items like 4TB if you got lots of photos, videos or other data that you do not wish to lose.

I ordered this drive exactly 1 year ago to use with my raspberry pi 3 (through a usb 2.0 connection). I've been mainly using it as an extra photo/movie/music/system backup and as such the disk is plugged in and in use 100% of the time, and I've moved at least 1.5 TB of data through in that period. The disk even survived a period of several months during which my raspberry was crashing daily (unrelated to the disk reasons) but not before issuing massive disk read/writes and I had to unplug it a dozen times (and in extension - the disk) under load, and still the disk is operating without any problems. When I first got it, I also did a couple of basic random read/write drive tests (1mb/10mb chunks if I remember correctly) on both usb 2.0 and 3.0 and the speeds seemed consistent with the usb standards and the drive specs, once I managed to find them, which was not straight forward as this is a rebranded (seagate I think) drive. Overall a decent, usable drive.

I have always found Seagate to be an excellent brand. I'm using this unit, essentially, as an expansion for my PC's memory. It remains attached to the computer at all times. This rather rubbishes the idea of it being portable, of course, but I COULD port it about if I wanted to. Works fine as an additional PC file storage unit; I also have a couple of programs and several games on it which I run from it on my PC, no lag, no problems; it might just as well be an internal and integral part of the PC, even though it sits on the outside in a little furry bag. When I first got it, I did use it for a bit of data transfer between machines, no problems there either. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a portable drive or a PC extension of this memory size. Quality at a decent price.

This is the third Seagate drive I have purchased in just under five years (they are used in different locations to store/transfer different things) and they have always been trouble-free. They are particularly useful for storing data permanently on a drive which you want never to be connected to the internet. They are also useful for transferring/replicating files from one hard drive to another when each computer is in a different location. The only issue might be that it has a short USB cable and the end that fits the Seagate drive is a non-standard connector so may be difficult to replace easily should that become necessary.

I have another Seagate drive and my Son was after one for his games console, so I got another one of these, as compared to others it was a good price and I knew what it was like and I’m a great believer in “go with what you know”. Small, compact and quiet, so can be placed somewhere discrete and out of the way, as there’s not much else it can do other than store stuff!

Got this for my Xbox series S. Formatting took a few seconds then I was able to transfer some games over. It took about 13 mins to transfer an 80gb game which is brilliant. The drive is really small (palm sized) and sleek looking so fits right in, or can be hidden out of view behind the Xbox. Registering the drive with Seagate is quite a quick process, make sure to do this on a PC before you format because you'll want to keep a copy of the files that it comes with (warranty info etc). I've seen a few reviews about the packaging being dodgy, this drive comes in what's called "frustration free packaging"; in other words it will come in a plain looking brown box. Many tech brands use this, such as Tecknet or Sennheiser. It's not an indication straight away that the drive is a fake but it's always a good idea to check storage devices properly anyway even if it comes in more fancy packaging.

TIP: Buy from 'Appario Retail Private Ltd' they ask for a reasonable price. 16 TB ('terabyte in decimal' NOT 'tebibyte in Binary') in Decimal Bit-unit so about 14,900 GB('gibibyte in Binary' NOT 'gigabyte in decimal') in Binary Bits. Difference: 1 TB(terabyte) = 1000 GB(gigabyte) {in decimal} 1 TB(tebibyte) = 1024 GB(gibibyte) {in Binary} Therefore, 1 TB(terabyte in decimal) = 931 GB(gibibyte in Binary) approx. That's why when we buy microSD Card it shows less in mobile device than what was branded for. Manufacturers use/brand in 'decimal' where as we all know digital computers are 'binary' at their core + the OS takes a bunch more. Does what it does, a lot of storage and it hasn't failed me yet. Worth a buy when it's on sale.
