Briggs & Stratton 5098K Fuel Filter

This was used in my '81 Yamaha 750 Seca for keeping particles out of my carbs. Piece fit perfectly with the hose I purchased. I was hoping it was a little more see-through but as long as it's doing its job I'm happy. Have had NO issues so far. Great little filter for the money.

Just replaced this on my MTD tractor after 13 years of summer use (mow about 2 acres, approx 25 times/summer). So after about 500 gallons of fuel haveing been through the old one, I replaced it with this identical filter and then cut the old one open to see what it had 'filterd' and there was just a little 'fuzz-ball' of brown 'lint' about the size of a lentil. I'm carefull to only use clean fuel and it's sure;y easy to get debris in the tank if not carefull or if in a windy/dirty location, so I don't know how typical my usage is, but at least you have a guideline. Based on this I'd replace it again in 10-15 years again -- if the the tractor lasts that long. There's also a 150 micron (half as fine) that is widely used but 75 micron is spec'd for my tractor so I went with this [exact] replacement. I also replaced the fuel hose itself because the factor hose was showing cracks in the outer layer ...used the "Briggs & Stratton 25-Inch Fuel Line with 4 Clamps 5414K" item and added a fuel shutofff while I was at it.

I like using these on many small engines. These filters have a fine mesh screen. I do not care for the paper filter types. They'll clog with a bit of water and there is no cleaning them. Sure replacing a filter IS the "right" way to fix equipment. But in a pinch after the parts stores are closed and you found someone has dumped some cruddy fuel in and you need the equipment running now. Back flush these with a bit of solvent, fuel, carb cleaner and dump and refill the tank and go on. I'm sure these could be bought in qty cheaper if you used a lot. But they are available just about anywhere from lawn shops to big box stores.

Fit Troy Bilt Pony riding lawn mower and our generator. Now both are ready for summer and hurricane season. Generator wouldn't run without finagling with the choke, replaced filter and now it runs perfect. Be sure to replace your filter before hurricane season!

Good insurance for a gasoline portable generator. I have a 6500 Watt Craftsman generator and the unit never came with an inline fuel filter. Just in case rubbish gets into the gas tank, this filter will prevent the rubbish from entering the carburetor.I believe Briggs & Stratton makes a fuel filter that looks exactly like this one, but is red in color, but has a 150 micron rating.I know how to rebuild small engine carburetors, but for $5, this will prevent you from needing to tear one apart.I'm sure this would work well with any other small gas engine, such as an ATV or riding mower.

When I had to change the fuel line on my Husqvarna riding lawn mower, I decided to also change the fuel filter because I do not think it had been done so in over five years. The Briggs and Stratton fuel filter here has done an excellent job of replacing the original Husqvarna one. I have not experienced any issues or hiccups and upon checking the bell in the carburetor, I found no build up or residue since changing the filters.
