Review: wonderful teapot! wonderful investment! - Only two days and I've fallen in love with this tea kettle :-). I'm an inveterate tea drinker, which means that I run through tea kettles at a faster-than-normal rate. I usually leave the spout open, and then boil the kettle dry. Or I boil the kettle dry because I can't hear the whistle. Or I burn the kettle on the stove because the gas flame underneath is wider than the base and it scorches the sides. Or I burn my hand when I try to pour the thing. Those four issues here are non-issues: (1) you can't leave the spout open, so you can't boil it dry; (2) the whistle is pretty strong, so I can hear it from a distance; (3) the base of the kettle is wide, so you can't burn the sides; (4) and the handle and spout handle are cool to handle. Since nothing is absolutely perfect, let me say that the only tiny drawback I see is that the kettle is a little heavier than I was expecting. But that's fine with me. It's also beautiful-looking on my stove. Review: Seems to be the best one available without spending a fortune. - We've had it for a (whopping) week, so here are my initial impressions: Very nice, and well worth $40! The broad bottom heats quickly on our gas range. The straight spout doesn't have an internal lip where water lingers, so it won't rust like others. The whistle isn't very loud, but plenty if you're not asleep on the couch. The trigger works well. The loop handle isn't a perfect shape, but is perfectly functional, and looks great. The chrome finish is good, and should be easier to keep clean than a "toothier" brushed finish. We have insanely hard water, so the large-ish lid opening will help as we try to keep the lime at bay. Our previous teakettle was a fancy-schmancy $300 one from Williams-Sonoma, and it sure wasn't 10x better!!

Great kettle! Unfortunately does leak a little from spout
This is a wonderful kettle! It boils well and it whistles loudly but not too loudly and the water stays hot in in a teacup for a long time without bring covered. I'm really glad that I bought it! However the base of the spout of my kettle does leak a little and I just had hot water from that leak spill onto my foot so I'd say that's a health-and-safety risk there especially if you have little kiddos.

I ordered the tea pot after reading all the great reviews, so here is one more
I ordered the tea pot after reading all the great reviews, so here is one more. Right out of the box I was impressed with the looks and sturdiness. It has taken some getting used to, it is a bit heavier than the pot it replaced, which is not a bad thing! Being well made it does retain the heat after the burner is turned off. The whistle works well, which is good, because I sometimes forget that the burner is on. The whistle did not work on our last pot, which ultimately lead to its demise. We have had the kettle for just a week, it gets used several times a day and most importantly, the wife likes it.

wow, now that's a Tea Pot
I'm a little tea pot, short and stout.... This think is not small, but it is stout. Heavy duty. Pros- Heavy base, making this the quietest teapot I've ever owned. I don't hear a thing until the whistle blows Well made. I can actually disassemble part of it for cleaning. Nice polished finish too It's a beauty Cons I didn't realize how big it was until I set it on my stove. Wow. It actually covers the big electric element.

Broke after 11 months
The handle to pull the lid off of the kettle broke after one year of use. It wasn't expensive, but for $35, I would expect the kettle to last longer. Part of the problem is that the tolerance of the lid was way too tight. So you had to get a very firm grip and pull really firmly on the handle each time you wanted to put water in the kettle. Given that amount of effort each time, it's not surprising that the lid handle broke. Disappointed though and reverted to using my OXO kettle that I have had for years. The only reason I bought a new one is I needed a stainless steel kettle to work on my induction cooktop when I was having my kitchen remodeled. Now I am back to a gas burner, so at least I have my old aluminum kettle.

Nice enough but lid doesn't fit so no whistle. ..
It is a fine vessel for holding and boiling water. However, the lid doesn't fit right, so it doesn't whistle when the water boils. I bought it because I often leave water boiling on the stove while I get distracted rearranging my linen closet. So...boo hiss that the thing doesn't whistle. But it is nice looking and easy to clean. I probably should have returned it for another one, but I have to arrange the cans in my pantry in alphabetical order.

Heats water fast & water says hot longer.
I like this tea pot a LOT. At first I was a bit put off by the size and weight BUT, believe me - it heats water fast & keeps it hotter, longer. I think that the way the bottom is constructed forces the flame of my gas stove to curl back or something so the heat's not wasted. OK - about the size and weight. I'm a short old girl (5'5" so my counters are a bit high) and lifting the kettle up and pouring into a coffee maker was a bit of a challenge at first BUT then I figured - what a great way to exercise my arm and shoulder! The 'thingy' that you pull to lift the spout lid is perfectly positioned and the whistle can be heard when I am out in the garden (should I wander so far afield while making coffee in the morning :) Only drawback is the length of the spout and/or the circular handle which does not fold over... when you don't have a lot of water in the kettle, the pour can be a bit daunting because you have to tip the kettle up so far. BUT... given the cost of propane and the short time it takes to heat the water I am willing to work with it. I suggest you do too. :)
