Great looking and smooth out of the Box i have used it on both analogue and dcc and not disappointed by either worked equally well

Disaster of a Christmas morning. Purchased this for my autistic 8 year old son who is a train enthusiast. Paid €230 worked for less than 30 seconds. Controller is like something from a €20 train set. Has 3 separate people look at it on Christmas morning as he was so upset. All said the same waste of money. When I started the refund with Amazon they offered me €16eur to not refund d or send back. Yet another insult for a Christmas ruined

A high-quality gorgeous model train with coaches to match and a decent sized track with trackmat that adds a bit extra to the layout. The train runs very smoothly and quietly and has already given hours of enjoyment to the 80-year-old recipient. Assembly was easy and fairly quick with the train running within 15 minutes of unboxing. The included re-railer is a brilliant addition to the set, making it easy for to get the model back on the rails. I've dropped a star due to the included controller being sub-standard: it keeps switching off by itself then requires a socket switch off, wait of 30 seconds and a switch on to get it working again. Over all it's a great set but let down slightly by the poor controller.

The engine itself is beautiful. The controller failed after one good run around the track. Cheap and nasty. Come on, Hornby, you're supposed to be the best!

I bought this train set so that it could be a shared hobby with my son and also a bit of nostalgia from when I was a youngster and the train sets I had and enjoyed. It stopped working after around 15mins, the motor still whirred away but not moving in either direction and yes we went through the fault finding checklist and all was as it should be, but still no movement. My son was very disappointed; frankly I expected more from Hornby with all the high ratings enthusiasts usually give them. I would have given a 1 star, however gave a 2 as the rest of the set i.e. tracks, controller, was well made and easy to put together and packaging was faultless, and the actual detail on the locomotive was exceptional as was were the coaches. Sadly had to return. Hornby please do better!

There is no front coupling on mallard and the chassis splits from the body easily.

We bought this train and we got a back to the future care. Super disappointed
