Platinum Tools 100061C EXO Crimp Frame with EXO-EX Die Set for ezEX-RJ45 Connectors

A must have for cat wiring. I’ve used it for cat5e-cat7 and it’s made my life a lot easier. Downside is the price of the push-through ends from the manufacturer, but the use of the tool itself is perfect for new techs and veterans alike!

Platinum Tools EXO Crimper makes perfect crimps for CAT6 and CAT6A. All the crimps I made and tested passed at 2.5Gbps (I have 2.5Gbps switches and router). The downside is that you must use Platinum Tools ezEX44 (CAT6) or ezEX48 (CAT6A) connectors which are more expensive than cheaply made ones available. The less expensive ones will not "click" into place in the crimper. The ezEX connectors and the EXO Crimper are designed for CAT6 and CAT6A with 23AWG wire. The wires are staggered in the connector to reduce crosstalk. The metal conducts are very robust and make posite contact A nice feature of the crimper is that the crimp head can be removed and turned around to fit a left-handed or right-handed user. Other heads can be used for CAT5e and RJ-12/11. This crimper is designed for professionals who need all completed Ethernet cables to be tested. If you properly strip the ends of a CAT6 or CAT6A cable and use this crimper, with the ezEX connectors, your cable will pass all tests!

Had a project where the Platinum ezEX48 modular connectors were specifically called out, so I had to pick up this crimp tool. I’ve had success with other brands in the past, but the ezEX48 plugs have a piece of plastic that must be cut off during termination. If it isn’t done correctly, the connector won’t seat properly in a device or patch panel, which can cause poor connections. This tool takes care of that step. while crimping it cuts the plastic precisely and trims the excess wire at the same time. The result is a clean, reliable termination. The tool itself feels very robust, slightly heavier than other crimpers I’ve used, but still comfortable and easy to operate.The included EXO-EX die works with ezEX48 and ezEX44 plugs and for wire up to 22AWG. I’ve also had some success terminating a few other brand plugs with it, though it’s not completely universal. Keep in mind, the Platinum connectors cost more than most other options therefore not carried by most local retailers, so you may not want to dispose of your other crimp tools just yet. If you’re in a bind and grab connectors from a hardware store, they may not be compatible with this tool. That said, if your project specifies Platinum ezEX connectors, this crimp tool is the only way to go. It’s more expensive, but it delivers the precision those plugs require. I would have given it a 5 star if this was closer in price to other quality tools on the market.

Need to crimp those heavier gauge CAT 6 and above cables correctly? Then this is the tool you need! I ran CAT 6, solid, 23 AWG all thought my home and was ready to crimp the ends. Which crimper to get? After a lot of research I found that as cables get thicker it’s harder and harder to set them side by side and get a good crimp. This tool uses connectors that have the wires staggered in two rows so thicker cables can be crimped with no problems. With this tool you need to pick either the ezEX44-RJ45 or the ezEX48-RJ45 connecters. You’re supposed to pick the connector based on the thickness of the insulation of the wires. The 44 (smaller holes) is the one I needed. Even though the rows are staggered, installing the wires is the same as when they’re all on one row: flatten the bumps out of the cables, line them up in the order you need, cut the ends so they are all flush, make sure they’re all flat and push them into the connector. They should easily slide into he proper holes on the proper row. Once you are sure you have them in the order you want you push the jacket all of the way into the connector, click the connector into the tool (the tool will hold the connect in place), make one last check of the colors with the guide on the tool then crimp it, and unclick your completed connector from the tool. In the pictures you can see the connector before its crimped (note the short plastic extension for the wires that will be crimped off with the tool), and a crimped wire (with the extension crimped off and the wires flush, and the staggered wires).

This thing along with the ezEX44 RJ45 connectors make perfect crimps every time. I suffered for a few days with a cheap crimper I got here on Amazon and it drove me crazy. It drove me on a quest for good tools. Worth every penny.

I terminate a lot of jacks. This tool will likely never wear out in my lifetime. The dies are very heavy duty. You need not use a lot of pressure on the handles, and you get a precise crimp and trim. About the only complaint I can come up with is having to change dies for different grades of cable, but that comes with the territory. No tool does everything for everyone

Solid tool. I like the through-insertion RJ-45 connectors. I wish it had a wire cutter for stripping outer sheathing.

It worked okay but left pins 1 and 8 hanging but I am okay with that because it can be easily removed. It works as advertised.
