can i use this screen on an macbook A1502?

Sorry , you'd better not do that .Though both model A1502 and A1278 are 13 inch, they are two different macbook pro.This lcd display screen panel can only fit for mbp 13" model A1278 2008-2012 year.

It's just a cracked screen and it powers on, body is intact. Will I require an assembly kit as well?

If other parts all work well, then can just replace the lcd screen panel , make sure the lcd glass panel are in good condition as well.
