This replaced an over-the-range microwave/fan combo that was only effective for the rear burners since it only covered half the stove. The PS38 covers the front burners and is very effective at drawing in smoke and odors. Installation was very straightforward but definitely requires a helper unless you have a way to elevate and hold the hood in place while attaching the screws. I think it weighs close to 50 lbs so arms and shoulders tire out quickly holding it above your head. I had to reach out to customer service because the hood vibrated at fan speeds 3+. It was enough to cause my sheet pans stored above to buzz and rattle. I sent Hauslane a video showing that the squirrel cage impellers wobbled a good bit so they immediately sent out new replacement impellers. They were easy to replace and solved the vibration issue. At low speeds (1 or 2) the fan is very quiet. It helps that there are 2 fans since they don't have to spin as fast as a single. The LED lights are bright and illuminates the area very well and the bulbs are easily changed out without tools. The GU10 bulbs are easy to find at Home Depot/Lowe's with a selection of brightness and color temperature. The stainless finish looks great and it comes with a microfiber cloth that does a very good job of removing smudges and fingerprints. Suction is excellent but I haven't tried the true test yet with a steak and ripping hot cast iron pan. My list of cons is pretty short and minor: 1. There is only one illumination level (bright). With the old microwave I often would leave the light on low overnight so I didn't have to turn on the main lights to see. 2. I'm nitpicking but I don't like that the clock has a zero in front of single digit hours, eg. 01:15. When glancing quickly at it or from a distance it takes a moment to determine if it's a zero or a one. 3. You can't turn the light or fan on without hitting the power button first. The power button does however turn off both the light and fan when powering off. So far I have no regrets choosing this model, but it's only been a couple weeks.

Install isn't easy but is as easy as it can be with the design. The back mounting screws are hard to access because of where they are located. Just a bit too close to the fan assemblies. Once installed and setup it works great, not any louder than my previous otr microwave. We regularly sear steaks and wok cook with 20k+ btu burners and this guy sucks the smoke right out of the house. It doesn't have any motion controls like some of the competition and the clock loses time surprisingly quickly somehow. When it comes to what matters though it's great. Great suction, nice to look at, sticks out a bit more to catch the smoke which is great. I'm happy with my purchase, I just wish those mounting screws in the back were a little further away from the fan assemblies.

I’ve had this range hood for six months now, and I absolutely love it. I bought this particular model because of its reported ability to extract smoke and steam from front burners, and it definitely delivers on that promise — see my video. It’s also very quiet at its lower speeds and reasonably quiet at its highest speeds. And the self-cleaning feature works really well. I previously had a 25 year old Zephyr range hood that was a real pain to clean, so I appreciate how easy it is to clean the Hauslane. The stainless steel housing is of excellent quality and cleans up nicely. The lighting is very effective and not too bright. It really enhances the cooking process. The bulbs it came with perfectly match the color temperature of my undercabinet and overhead lighting. Since this range hood is quite powerful, be sure you have a source of make up air when running it at higher speeds. I just open a nearby window when needed since my home lacks a proper make up air damper or passive vents. My only recommendations for improving this range hood would be to add the ability to use only one of the two fans at a time, and make the lights dimmable. Also, it’d be nice to have a way to turn on the lights and vent simultaneously with one button. My contractor had no problems installing the range hood all by himself, but he’s a real pro.

This is our second time purchasing range hoods from this brand, and that alone says a lot about how happy we are with it. The shipment was delivered late about a week. That is not the big problem. The package has a small open hole at the corner and two protective foam was broken in the middle and one at the corner. Open the box and noticed the big dent at one of the corners as showed in the attached. Contact the seller through Amazon but did not get any reply/help from them. Need a range hood since have been waiting for more than 10 days so ignored the corner issue which was a big mistake. Everything went through smoothly for the installation but a little challenge for the bolts at rear. Hard to see where the hole is but used the “mirror” feature of the smooth and flat stainless steel surface to get bolts into the position. Following the instruction to clean the rangehood weekly and now noticed the big issue as showed in the attached video. The video shows one side and the other side was doing the same thing when the cleaning feature was turned on and the water was sprayed into the rotor hosing. Need a replacement through Amazon quickly but you still need to contact the seller. Hope that process is smooth and the next unit is not a damaged one. Worked with the seller for about less than 2weeks with email back and forth. Did not get the problem resolved. It almost reached the last day of the return. Contacted Amazon to request the extension of the return of possible and Amazon did the best to support it. Also spoke Amazon asked replacement but has to be rebuy and return. So going to give it a try since all the setup/holes have need done properly already. Today the second unit arrived. Because of the last experience, use the light to check the crack at the same location and noticed the same thing happening. Also noticed that there were dark oil on the plate. Don’t done where it came from. The crack is smaller than the previous one. So I decided ti use silicon to seal it. It is a dirt fix but I don’t need to wait for additional 2-3 weeks for another one potentiallly with the same issue. Don’t know how they do the quality check. And also the edges are sharp enough to cut the hand/arm easy. You would never ever want to reinstall it once it is done. I do like the cleaning feature of this machine but if I can select it again at the beginning, I will not pick up this brand. Suggest you to check the crack at the location in the video/picture before you install if you want to have a range hood from this seller.

I had a contractor install the hood and connect to the vent-to-outside, which went quickly and easily, around an hour. The fans were so quiet when we tried it, I thought it wasn't working properly. But it was, and the contractor said he'd never seen fans like these in an oven hood. It worked amazingly well. But, on the 3rd day it started making a squealing sound at all speeds, but the pitch remained the same regardless of the speed so I figured it wasn't a bearing, but it was also somewhat intermittent. Ultimately it got really bad and I contacted customer service and Jared answered on the 3rd ring. I sent them a video from my phone of the noise and Jared emailed me back 45 minutes later stating that the mounting screws had been over-tightened when the guy installed it. He sent a diagram and I was able to easily find the offending screw and back it out a few turns - then voila, no more noise. Sounds like it was just installed, and so far it hasn't returned. I was initially hesitant because of the price, but this thing really rocks and is more powerful than any consumer grade hood I've ever used. And they had my issue fixed within an hour of first reporting it which is amazingly rare to find these days. And it looks great too - very impressive. Five stars - worth the price and great tech support to boot. EDIT: it's now been 2.5 years of use - not a single problem or issue, and have used the steam cleaner several times. This is a great product!

Fantastic range hood, the capture is just amazing and the self-cleaning feature is effective. It’s not noisy either, the fan speeds are great. It’s quite intelligent too, it knows if the damper is open or not (ramping the fan speed up to push it open, then slows back down) - one of the best hoods on the market. Please note: the lights that come with this thing are cheap and suck. Throw them out and install some nice high quality LEDs like Phillips 2700K (seen on my video) and it will elevate the look and quality significantly.

This unit is fairly quiet, at maximum setting it is slightly louder but that is expected. On lowest setting noise level is barely noticeable, but still exhaust air very well for light cooking. Generally my setting is on level 4 unless I'm doing heavy duty working then I set it to max. No odor unless the wife didn't turn it on when she starts cooking, by turn it to Max then all cooking odour is gone. Now my neighbors know when I'm cooking. Lol. Installation is easy. I use the template provided to locate the four screw location and undercut the cord template opening because if you cut the cord opening as per template it's a little oversized and would not leave enough wood for the mounting screws to bite into the wood. My shelf where the hood mounts is double thickness and the screws just perfect length. I recommend if your shelf is single thickness I would add another board inside to make life easier for the installation. I use the screws provided and screw it onto the wood with a 1/4" of the screw head sticking out. Lift the hood and aligned the mounting holes of the hood with the protruding screw heads, and push the fan hood back to lock in the screws then using a long #2 robertson screw bit (6") to tighten the screws to the shelf. Voila' it's done. No need to have another person to help. It can be done by one person as long as you prep the screw alignment accurately with the provided cardboard template. Only negative side to this fan is the control for fan speed is not very responsive, and like all the other reviews said... setting the clock is terrible. Wish the steam clean holder/container was built in, instead of a separate piece which I have to find separate storage space elsewhere. Otherwise I'm very happy with the hood. Fan is easy to clean...used it for 2 weeks now and no signs of grease accumulation yet..... maybe because it is strong and blew everything out. Can't respond to the steam clean as I haven't used it yet. Hope this fan have some longevity. Well worth the price.

This is the best hood in the market. Absolutely, no kitchen odor due to smoke. I have replaced a microwave wave hood which is noisy and ineffective. Hauslane hood is the name! 5 stars, 2 thumbs up!

Good and quality product, looks nice, functions very well. a couple of regrets: missing washers, the folded template is not quite accurate -- makes installation difficult and since it is 'heavy', installation is pretty challenging by one person. And I do not find anywhere in the manual on how to set time. (need to re plug the power to set it as I found later). Overall, I recommend it for all the minor uncomfortable stuff.

Hello, I love the design of this unit. It has a heavy duty feel and thick stainless. It does not feel cheap and flimsy. I wish it had the option to hard wire vs plug in as I had to install an outlet in my cabinet and drill a larger hole to fit the end of the plug. There were no directions in the manual on how to set the time, but one quick question and I received multiple responses on how that is completed. It has many speeds and even on the lower speeds has great suction. At the highest speed setting it is a bit noisier, but that is ok for me. I rarely need to use the higher speeds. As I mentioned in the subject. I installed this myself. The directions call for three people. Here is how I was able to do this. I did not use any jacks as suggested in the directions. ( I didn't have them anyways) I purchased 4 claw nut fasteners (and machine screws) and drilled a hole in the bottom of my cabinet to accommodate them. Directions and the parts supplied were to use the wood screws supplied with the hood range. (which are too long for my 3/4" thick cabinets.) They would stick out into the cabinet if I used what was supplied possible causing a cut/scrape if I used them and someone reached up into the cupboard. I used the cardboard insert that came in the box as a template to mark where I needed to drill the four holes, in addition to the 6" hole for the vent. I drilled all my holes and pushed in the fasteners as far as I could, then tapped down the fasteners with a hammer so they sat flush with my shelf, I manually screwed in the 4 screws I purchased leaving about 1/2" of thread showing under the cabinet. I then lifted the hood range and aligned the screws into the key holes on the hood and pushed backwards to lock them into place in the key holes. The cabinet now is hanging on the screws. Now I used my drill and tightened each screw raising it up and tight against the bottom of the cabinet. I was also able to use shorter screws to add some extra supports where I was able to in open spots in the hood. I have attached pics of the fasteners, the inside of the cabinet showing it installed and the finished install.
