This review is for the Decibullz - Custom Molded Percussive Filters I'm a pretty avid shooter and I also volunteer as an RSO at my local range. I prefer ear plugs when I shoot, but I've been wearing electronic muffs when I work so I can hear what's going on. They also make it easier to talk with people on a hot line. The problem with electronic muffs, or plugs, is that when they cut out from a shot, or multiple shots, the delay to come back on can make conversations sound like a bad cell connection. Not to mention always having to charge/change batteries. It gets annoying. These plugs allow me to hear whats going on, and I'm able to hold a conversation a lot better as well. Make no mistake, these are earplugs and they sound like earplugs! But ambient noises sound more like you're using cotton balls rather than plugs with a NRR rating of 30+. Even though the sound is muffled I can hear a .22LR hit the target (paper target on cardboard backstop) @ 100 yards, clearly! On the same token, they seem to offer good protection from the loud boomers. There was someone sighting in a 416 Weatherby (literal elephant gun) and I suffered no discomfort from the shots, or ringing in my ears when he was done. So I'm definitely satisfied with the performance of these plugs! As for the fitting, I suggest you watch a few videos and familiarize yourself with the process before you start! I also suggest using a larger (silicone) ear piece than you think you need for the molding process. It took me 2 tries to get the plugs formed to my ears to where I thought they were fit and formed properly. Half way through my 1st day wearing them they became really uncomfortable. It was because the ear piece was pushed too far into my ear and caused pressure. When I got home that night I took the foam off and put the larger silicone pieces on, reheated, and remolded them. Finally, I put the foam ear pieces back on, and now I can wear them all day long with no discomfort! Overall I am really happy with these plugs! Like you, I was reading the reviews to see if they were worth the money. The price is a lil steep for a product with a rating of less than 4 stars, but I think people were expecting to hear as well as an electronic device, or at least open ears. I pretty much knew what to expect, and these went a bit beyond that! These plugs are def a quality product and definitely worth the money in my opinion. They come with a case and a set extra molds. If you spring an extra $5 for a lanyard, you can have 2 sets of hearing protection (1 without filters, of course), so that's a pretty decent deal! These are also about half the price of halfway decent electronic ear plugs, and don't require any maintenance, other than cleaning.

Pretty easy to mold/use. Took these to the gun range and they worked great. I was still able to communicate with people just fine. They were able to block out that percussive force and dull the sound really well. Highly recommend! Now, are they wildly better then those cheap throw away foam inserts? I would say yes. You are paying for ease of use and ease of seal. I don't think you are paying for how well they block out the noise/percussion they are about the same. With the foam tips often times I can get them to work well but there are times where the placement is off a bit and I pay for it. Also, I can get the same quality with just the silicon tips. They also come with foam tips and I imagine they would be even better at isolation if you used these. It does say to replace the foam ones every so often (I think 3-6 months). Silicon works though, very impressed.

I bought a set of these thinking that it would be a great non-electronic way to protectmy hearing while still being able to hear and understand people talking at the range. I was disappointed. These were not easy to fit. I had to re-mold these things at least six times to get them to fit properly. I'm a big guy with very large ears, and I dont think there's enough of the moldable plastic for it to work properly. In addition, the solid plastic core that connects the sound filter to the foam or silicone insert is too short. After heating the thermoplastic, I pushed the largest silicone plug deep into my ear canal so that it would seal properly. The plastic just flowed around the top of the temporary filter several times. After some practice, I was able to get the molded part to allow me to remove the temporary filter and replace it with the actual sound filter, but the molded part didn't really fill the bowl of my ear, so there wasn't much to hold onto. I called the company and they were not helpful. They insisted I was doing it wrong. They offered a refund, and I should have taken them up on it, but I was determined to make it work. It turns out that you have to use the foam plugs and not the silicone for shooting or else the noise reduction isn't good. When actually using them, the first challenge is to get them in properly. I need to mark left and right because the oddly shaped monstrosities that resulted from my best efforts to get a good fit are difficult to figure out how to fit. I have used these at least a half dozen times, and I still have trouble getting them in, but after some fiddling I manage. With the foam inserts they block sound pretty well, and are reasonably comfortable. However, I can say they are similar in comfort and protection to cheap earplugs that Amazon sells for 6 bucks a dozen. While they block the gunshots, I can't understand what people say to me when talking, so I have to take them out. This is as difficult as putting them in; if I pull the string, the filter pops out, leaving the earplugs in. I have to really grab and claw at the molded part to get it out. Remember, it's very deep in my ear, so that's not easy. When were done talking, I can't get them in before people start shooting, so I still hurt my ears. I keep a bag of the .50 cheapies in my range bag, and I've gone back to using those, as they protect every bit as well as these fancy things, but I can just pop one out when someone needs to talk, and I can get it back in quickly. I regret buying these, as they were not cheap, and they don't work as advertised.

It took me a few tries since I'm pretty particular. I brought them to the range the other day and they performed great and I'm really satisfied with their ability to block sound. They really weren't all that comfy after an hour but I'm hoping that I'll get more used to them. I'm kinda overkill on protecting my hearing so I wear them under my earmuffs and they definitely get less comfortable when my ear is scrunched a bit under the earmuffs. I forgot to put on my earmuffs when I walked into the range bay and they seemed to work well all by themselves which impressed me and when they're doubled up, I could tell a major difference between having these doubled up with my earmuffs over just using the old school earplugs. I have obnoxiously large ears/ear canals so I wish there was an option that came with more of the material that can be shaped to fit my massive ears. I honestly might by another set of the cheaper kind just to mold with this pair (again, I'm pretty obsessed with not losing my hearing) and see if it improves the comfort. Good product and much cheaper than other options.

This review is for the Decibullz Molded Percussive Filters, I have been using the filters for several range visits and they are very good. I can still hold a conversation but they dampen sounds when rounds are fired, exactly what you would want in a product like this. I have only used them at outdoor shotgun ranges so I cannot comment on their use in an indoor range setting. The fit is excellent, they are extremely comfortable due to the custom fit and are a huge improvement to the active earmuffs I used previously. They do not interfere with mounting my shotgun and therefore do not adversely affect my scores (but also eliminate one of my excuses when I have a poor round). The noise reduction seems to be in line with the stated values, and I can hold a conversation at normal levels while wearing this product. The product seems to live up to it's claims and I'm very happy with my purchase. The only issue I had with this product was the instructions for molding the pictogram instructions are not very clear about what part are supposed to be boiled. It is very clear that the percussive filters need to be removed, but what was not clear is that the filters and the, I'll call it the stem, can be separated and the stem is boiled with the molds and orange triple flange tips. Once I found their video on youTube, the process was much more clear and understandable. I highly advise anyone that purchases these to watch the video before molding, you won't over mold one set of your Thermo Fit Molds beyond use like I ended up doing. Yes, the can be remolded, but if the hole in the middle closes, they're pretty much toast. Luckily, Decibullz includes a bonus pair of Thermo Fit molds with the percussive filter set, so I wasn't dead in the water, but I do wish their instructions were more clear regarding this part. The second issue I had was not with the product at all but with the Add-ons that Amazon suggests when you purchase the Decibullz Percussive Filters. They seem to suggest the carrying case and the Lanyard. First of all, the Decibullz Percussive Filters come with a case (although it isn't readily apparent from the product description on Amazon), so if you purchase one you end up with two, and are out around $10 for the privilege. The second suggestion from Amazon is the Decibullz Lanyard, the issue if you purchase it is that it completely defeats the percussive filter properties and you end up with ear plugs. According to the Decibullz website, they are working on a lanyard specifically for the Percussive Filters, but the suggested one will work, but you won't be able to hear much. If you follow Amazon's suggestion and purchase and install these, you're essentially creating a Decibullz ear plug with no Percussive functionality, at a $50+ premium. So buyer beware on the suggestions from Amazon, sure you can return the items, but since there is nothing wrong with them, you have to pay return shipping. That policy doesn't seem right to me when Amazon is making purchase suggestions that make absolutely no sense for the item you are purchasing, so research those before you add them to your cart. Otherwise I'm very happy with my purchase, I just wish I had watched the video before attempting to mold the Thermo Fit Molds.

difficult to figure out how to fit them the first time, but my second attempt went better, the attenuation from these is no better than 25 cent regular foam earplugs, although they do provide better sound awareness. I found that ultimately they don't work great and went back to my electronic earmuffs instead. maybe if I had new ones to try fitting again it would work better, but I am not willing to pay for another set to give them a try. they say they can be re-molded and while that may be true from a chemical properties standpoint, you'll never get them back to a state where you can start over.

I've had these for a few months and taken them to my local indoor range every time I've been since getting them. I most recently used them today and so far I've been very happy. The molding process is easy and, best of all, if you mess up or don't get a great fit the first time you can redo them. I use the rolldown foam tips for maximum noise suppression and because the Xmas tree tips never fit my ears well on any product. The downside there is that I'll have to replace them with frequent use, but I already deal with that for some of my personal headphones so it's a known quantity. If you have an existing pair of decibullz, you can just pop the percussive filters in and skip the molding altogether. Now, how do the filters work? In a word, great. I shoot at an indoor range that requires you to have your ears on before entering the bay (obviously), so I put them in at the counter and usually have to tap them a couple of times because I can hear right thru them and wonder if they're in. They always are, it's just that easy to hear thru them when no loud noise is happening. I can always hear the RSOs when they issue commands or ask questions, but the person shooting in the stall next to me, let alone my own firearm, doesn't blow out my ears. It doesn't fully negate the flinch factor when you first walk into the room like a good pair of electronic muffs does, but it lowers noise below the safety threshold and you get used to the popping quickly. As for the firearm in my hand, I've only tested them with my 9mm handgun by themselves by they do a great job of dimming the sound. Nothing ever hurt or left me ringing thru a couple hundred rounds at a time. When I've shot my rifle (AR-15 in 5.56) in the same room so far I've doubled up with my muffs (Walker Razors) with their external pickups on, but I suspect that the decibullz would perform well on their own. I'd likely be more comfortable not doubling if I were outdoors with the rifle (the bays in my range are fairly small). If you're on the fence, just do it. If you're already a decibullz user, the price is a little steep, but with this kit you not only get the percussive filters, but basically an entirely new set of plugs (great if you have a SO or friend who may need/want a custom pair of plugs). The included carrying case is also superior to the little cloth bag that comes with a standard set. It's well worth the money. Side Note: These may also work well for concerts or other loud events, but as I bought them in 2020 I haven't been able to test them in those environments.

I purchased these at the end of January and just now molded them (May 23, 2026). The instructions are complete and easy to follow and the molding process works fine. I used them for the first time today--they worked fine for shooting a .17 cal rifle but when I got to my 6.5 creedmor I had to use my over the ear protection. I followed the instructions carefully and they molded easily. The noise was very sharp--I won't use them again with a higher powered rifle. The over the ear protection is much better at protecting the ear from sharp noises. I would like to return them but apparently I waited too long to do that. Very disappointed in the product.

Bought these so I can hear orders on the rifle range. It only works a little better than straight earplugs.

Ich war erst etwas skeptisch ob diese Stöpsel halten werden was sie versprechen, aber ich wurde positiv überrascht. Die normalen Geräusche sind deutlich klarer und weniger gedämpt als ich dies bei einem System ohne elektrische Unterstützung erwartet hätte. Trotzdem werden laute Geräusche effektiv reduziert. Das Anpassen der Ohrformen war einfacher als gedacht. Es lagen gleich zwei Sätze des Formmaterials dabei, damit man einmal üben kann. Aber auch das erneute Umformen funktioniert problemlos. Es sind je 3 größen Silikon- und Schaumstoffohrstöpsel für den Gehörgang enthalten, so dass jeder eine für ihn angenehme Variante finden sollte.

These worked exactly as intended. I formed them to my ears a couple of days prior to my ATC requalification, and they stayed in place (for an hour) at the range. I was able to hear my instructor, and it was more beneficial to me than wearing a headset because since I wear my firearm high on my hip, my shoulder was not bumping any ear muffs. (I passed my test. Woot woot!) I highly recommend these to anyone with moderate hearing function. (I'm 52, I have tinnitus and a slight hearing loss in one ear). I didn’t want to spend $200 on electric plugs, so these worked just fine. If you have more severe hearing issues though, I would suggest getting a two way system. These definitely function better than using foam earplugs. Enjoy!
