If you have the genetic flaw which causes folic acid to be poorly metabolized, this is the "biooptimized" product you need to compensate. Most people's bodies metabolize folic acid into L-Methylfolate. If you don't have the genetic flaw, then you don't need to take this. It could even cause you problems. If you have used other brands of L-Methylfolate, then all you really need to know is that this is "the real deal, "the good stuff." I buy this product because it is the cheapest way I can get 5 mg. doses, which is what I take daily. The tablets are 10 mg. each. They are scored, so you can cut them in half to get a 5 mg. dose. If you are just starting to take L-Methyfolate, I suggest starting with a 1 mg (or 1,000 mcg) dose. Try it for a month or two at that dose before increasing the dosage to 2 mg. Take that dose for at least two months before increasing to 3 mg. If you feel no difference after two months of a dosage increase, then you probably don't need to increase the dose any more. If you DO feel better after a dosage increase, then increase your dosage again after a couple of months, by 1 mg. Keep increasing the dosage every two months until you do not notice a difference upon increasing. At that point, taking any more will not do anything for you, expect help empty your wallet faster. You want the 1 mg. size. If you DO need 5 mg. or more per day, then yes, this product is the cheapest way I have found to get the real stuff. Obviously, if you wind up needing 6 or 7 mg. daily, then you would want to by a bottle of this 10 mg. product AND the 1 mg. product, do that you can take say, a half of the 10 mg. tablet and one or two of the 1 mg. tablets, to get exactly the right dose. Again, if you take more L-Methylfolate than you need, you can cause yourself as big a problem or bigger than not taking any at all. Take L-Methylfolate with your doctor being fully advised/consulted. There really are some situations where taking this can cause problems.

Ok. This is for people and trust me, there are lot of people with a genetic mutation that does not allow them to metabolize FOLATE. This helps the body utilize the appropriate form of B12 for you - METHYL-FOLATE. Its wonderful. After the very first dose I felt energized but calm and not nervous and retarded like I normally felt before taking this product. If you have health issues that you can't seem to put your finger on and dummy doctors can't figure it out…then you might need this product.

So great that Methyl-Life provides the same product as Deplin at a fraction of the price and no prescription for people that have MTHFR and want to self-treat without having to deal with a doctor, most of whom aren't even familiar with MTHFR. I started out taking 15 mg., same as Deplin, but after while, that was too much, I became overmethylated. Then I went down to the 10 mg. As I become healthier, I find I need less and less of it. I now use the 5 mg. product. Always happy with this brand and this product. It's the next best thing to injected Methyfolate, which I inject about 1-2 times a week. The rest of the time, I supplement with this product and am very happy with it. My only complaint, is, does it need to have the gross, fake-sweet taste? I'd prefer a pill without whatever extra flavoring they put in it, to make it taste like this. I'm not dinging a star for it because I really like the company and the product, and I understand this is probably to get children to take it without a big fuss. However, I'm just mentioning it as a suggestion to the company - it would be nice to have the option of no extra additives/flavorings.
