Setup was a breeze—just skim the quick‑start guide, pop in two AAA batteries, and you’re ready to go. I’m using mine to count down to retirement, but the clock comes with several interchangeable faceplates (Retirement, Wedding, Custom, and more), so you can tailor it to any milestone. Here is the instructions I gave ChatGPT to create the "CalSTRS/Social Security" faceplate you see here: "Design a printable retirement-countdown clock face. • Overall artwork: 4 ⅞ ″ × 2 ⅜ ″ (landscape). • Centered cut-out window: 2 11⁄16 ″ × 1 ½ ″ — leave it blank and outline it with a dashed rectangle so I can cut it out. • Top left: CalSTRS logo; top right: Social Security logo. • Left of the window: a sleek passenger-train icon to symbolize travel. • Right of the window: a large-format camera with a roll of film to symbolize photography. • Below the window: “RETIREMENT COUNTDOWN” in bold navy caps; below that, “August 2027” in CalSTRS-orange bold text. • Output a single 8.5 ″ × 11 ″ PDF at 300 dpi, with the 4 ⅞ ″ × 2 ⅜ ″ design centered on the page and a 1-pt solid border around it. • Make the icons clean, vector-style, and print-friendly.” BTW I epoxied a round magnet to bottom and stuck it on top my drill press.

In honor of my husband’s dream birthday vacation, golf at the Old Course at St. Andrews, I wanted to get him something that would be a fun reminder. This countdown clock was perfect. It comes with two background options. One for the clock “occasion” you choose (birthday, wedding date, etc.). There’s also a blank background you can write/draw on. I decided to make my own, print onto a thicker paper, and then use one of the other backgrounds as a template for cutting out. Super easy and it worked out great. You can set for the exact time you want, down to the second. I set ours for the date and our actual tee time. My husband loved it and has it set on his desk at his office. He’s said that the clock has been one of his favorite gifts and it’s been great to look at regularly to see the days getting closer. Highly recommend for any occasion.

I bought this as gift for a friend who will be retiring soon. She loves it! She also liked that you can change the background for different occasions.
