works as intended for Type C. However, the USB Type A connectors are not reliable so use type C only for BOTH ends. I only used it with USB C and not tested with thunderbolt.

It gets the job done. But potentially can damage your ssd. The ssd wiggle after installation. For $150, there should be a chassis or a sleeve to hold the ssd stable.

I had a great hopes for this product, but the speed let me down big time. Just compare - first picture is the 3.2TB Samsung NVMe SSD connected using this adapter. Second picture is the same disk connected via PCIe card and a cable directly to PCIe x4. I tested another disk - 6.4TB Toshiba NVMe drive - same numbers. And Mac OS X compatibility? Yes, it sees the device and the disk, but when i tried to initialize it the system stuck on "creating the partition map" for about an hour. Could not wait more, so i just terminated the process and disconnected it. I will play with the adapter for couple of days but i inclined to just return it for refund and try something else. Icy Dock - you got me disappointed with this thing.

It would light up, but the drives plugged into it would never mount. I've tested the same U.2 drives and the cables with a different larger caddy and they all worked fine. So, I can confirm that this dock was the issue. Quite a bummer as I was really hoping that it would work. I returned it for refund.
