This is a very handy tool to have when chopping firewood, cutting wood with a chainsaw, or even just scrounging up firewood for a campfire. It not only saves your back from having to reach down all the way to pick the wood up off the ground, but it adds a measure of safety too - since there can be all sorts of nasty critters hiding beneath or clinging onto logs and firewood, from spiders and scorpions to snakes. This will at least put them at arm's length as you use the device to stick into the top or bottom soft spots of a log and pull the wood up from the ground. For the outdoors woodsman, this tool is a must! Fiskars brand is excellent quality, and balances well in the hand. 5-Stars! Highly recommended!

This is one of the most useful purchases that I have made on Amazon in a long time. I highly recommend this pickaroon. I purchased this Fiskars pickaroon at the same time that I purchased a second, heavier, hardwood handled, pickaroon. When I compared them both right out of the package I was initially concerned about the very light weight of the Fiskars against the 3-4X heavier steel and wood model. I had seen several reviews on (YT) about the light weight Fiskars, mentioning that the lack of overall mass could potentially be an issue with driving the pickaroon into some harder rounds. I assumed that the light weight Fiskars would need to be relegated to my lighter, softer, Digger Pine rounds and splits, and that the other, heavy duty model would be what I would need to use for the extremely heavy, rock hard rounds that I had cut from several, long dried, wind-fall Blue Oaks that have been down on my property for a few years. Boy was I wrong about that. In actual use, the heavier tool tended to bounce right out of the hard wood. Even with a hefty swing and good centered aim, the slightly wider taper on the head had trouble sticking far enough into the Oak round to hold on well. That is after I had taken a file to the point to give it a better bite, or so I thought. I picked up the light weight, almost toy like by comparison, Fiskars and to my surprise, every single oak round that I swung it on stuck like glue. These are seriously stone-like, "seasoned on the stump" dense, hard, dried Blue Oak rounds. Many weighing a good 20-25# and some much more. Due to the geometry of the sharp, square-edged point on the Fiskars tool, it sticks so well with a light to moderate swing that it takes a bit of effort to twist/roll it out of its grip on the end of the round. Picking up a stuck round to place it on the splitter bed, there is no worry about the tool losing its grip on the wood and dropping a heavy chunk of oak on the top of your foot. The steel quality of this, as well as all of my other Fiskars tools, is top notch. The balance for the swing is spot on as well, and the taper of the "fawns-foot" makes the tool easy to hang on to. I am seriously impressed with this tool. The Fiskars is my go-to tool for all of the oak rounds and splits on my homestead now. I initially thought that I would give the light weight Fiskars to my wife to use when she helps me with our storm clearing and firewood gathering work, as I am 18" taller and at least 140# heavier than she is, so she could work the light weight pine with the "little Fiskars", and I could handle the heavy oak wood. I will be buying another Fiskars so she can have her own tool, and we will not have to swipe the "little Fiskars" from each other all day long. It does not hurt that the Fiskars cost me about half as much as the heavier wood handled pickaroon either. The engineers at Fiskars really hit it out of the park with this tool. I have several other Fiskars tools that I have gathered over the years, like my truck axe, hatchet, loppers, pruner, etc... All of these tools have served me well. Being a bit of an "old-timer, traditionalist", I generally prefer a fine, oiled, Hickory handled Axe, hammer, etc... for the feel, and the ability to replace a broken handle if needed. I make an exception when it comes to these Fiskars tools. I have not yet broken any of my synthetic handled Fiskars tools. For leaving tools in the truck box for off-road use and not have to worry about them at all, and the reduced need for maintenance on the synthetic handles of these Fiskars tools, makes them very convenient to keep around. I take good care of my equipment, keeping my hardwood handled tools well oiled and the heads tight. I do not baby my tools. They get used hard and often. When I bought my first Fiskars axe, I thought I would give this "newfangled plastic tool" a try to see how it would hold up, and not have to worry about leaving it in the truck box for an extended period of time. I have not been disappointed. Do yourself a favor and get one of these pickaroons. Your back will soon thank you for it. After many decades of heavy, hard work my back is pretty messed up, and this tool has made a tough job at lot easier to perform. I am very happy with my purchase of this pickaroon, and would whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone that has a need for this type of tool in their wood yard.

Worked great at picking up, dressing up, and moving splits and pieces that had fallen off an old firewood stack. Saved my back, and more importantly my fingers (from snake bites (don't ask me how I know), that alone is worth the price). The ridges on the end helped remove loose bark and clean up pieces that had funky spots but were still mostly good hardwood. The pick also stabilized the piece, when placed on end to knock off bark, fungus, and soft areas with their hatchet, to save the piece and make kindling for the stove. (The hatchet was also a good purchase as it worked well in completing cleanup to keep the piece stove ready.)

very lightweight, strong and sharp, saves your back, good length, works great on large rounds, the material its made out of is very strong and has been extremely durable, I wish it had more orange on the handle, it sometimes gets temporarily lost when the splitter is being used, I added some fluorescent tape to help solve this issue, this item was good money spent

Good: - Performance: really good on CURED or DRY hard and soft wood. - As all others say.......its light. Thats good and bad - Tough. I have not tried to destroy it and paid attention to resist applying torsion or twisting to the " blade" when the point is buried into the endgrain of a large round. But have dragged, maneuvered, many large roumds (100lbs +/- ) now and it is still solid. - Handle: Grip/texture is pretty good and to me the swell/hook/flair at the end works well when needed. - Warranties. Fiskars has among the best in the business. Not so good: - This thing STINKS on green hardwoods! Especially with the factory point geometry, only thing it did well here is burying into heavy rounds for lifting or dragging. It bounces off of splits on face and endgrain strikes unless the split is larger and heavy, and then you have to whale on it to get it to set. If you do allot of green hard wood processing.....get something with more mass, a finer point, or be prepared to modify the point geometry on this tool as i did. - Hand shock: the light weight, hollow handle, combined with the necessity to swing it hard on green hardwood, i do experience some hand shock. Staying off of the end of the handle, choking up a bit and wearing good gloves apropriate for wood processing mitigates most of this though. All said......with some light file work to tune the point for more effective use in green hardwood and to make it more tolerable of less than perfect swing/form when setting the point...... I would definately recommend this tool as a general use "sappie". Just be aware of its inherent characteristics and i think most people will not be disappointed.

Having never owned or used a hookaroon before, it was with some trepidation that I ordered a Fiskars 28'' model along with a competing brand with a longer wooden handle and heavier head. After working with both of them for a couple of weeks I've come to favor the Fiskars version hands down. It's hollow handle and needle sharp point make it a breeze to swing over and over again. It's proven itself invaluable to help unload the bed of our pickup truck without having to climb all the way in to get the wood piled at the back. It's also been a great tool for grabbing huge rounds of heavy hardwood and moving them into position so that they can be split. I find it much less useful when picking up many individual pieces of split wood that's laying on the ground. Not that it doesn't do a great job of snagging the wood because it does. However if the job you're trying to get done involves stacking a lot of wood it's a very tedious and inefficient way to go about it. Picking up one piece of split firewood at a time with the Hackaroon takes about three times as long as it does to bend over and pick wood up by hand. I guess if you have all day to stack up a cord of firewood and you don't mind spending from fifteen to twenty seconds to unstick the Hackaroon from the piece of split wood it's buried in once you've picked it up? No problem - go for it. We just finished cutting, splitting and stacking about 12 cords of hardwood. With that much split wood to process , a few seconds spent unsticking the Hackaroon from each piece is very inefficient. Otherwise? This is a great little tool and one that I intend to keep in my firewood arsenal for the foreseeable future. I highly recommend it.

This is an awesome and must have tool if you need to move large tree rounds or limbs! Had a huge oak tree taken down, the guy cut up some of the logs into large rounds, many of which were lodged between uncut logs. These were 25-30 inches in diameter, 18 inches long, AND wet oak. Guessing they weighed between 150-200 lbs a piece. I moved about 8 of them manually, with a LOT of time, effort and struggle. I am a 5ft female and pretty strong, but these things wore me out manually pushing, pulling, dragging and flipping. To add to the fun, my property is uneven and the clear path to move them was blocked by another set of uncut huge logs. So, some of them I had to push uphill. I could only move 2 a day before I ran out of energy. Good times. My neighbors seemed entertained with my efforts. The remaining 8 cut rounds were lodged so tightly between other huge uncut logs, I couldn’t budge them. I happened on this tool watching U-Tube videos on how to move these things. I really thought this has to be too good to be true. To my very elated surprise, I was able to EASILY dislodge these huge rounds and move them, even over large limbs underneath them. Using this tool, I could easily flip them on the bark side, roll them, flip them back on flat side and position them into an area where I could dice them up. I dislodged and moved all 8 of the remaining huge rounds in about 45 minutes. I also used this tool to easily drag large (8 in diameter) knurled limbs out of the way. Again, my property is uneven so quite a few had to be drug uphill. Hard to believe what this lightweight tool can do! The pick doesn't get stuck either. Its great to have the right tool to do the job. Highly recommend the Fiskars 28" Hookaroon! It also referred to as a Pickaroon, but same thing.

Great for keeping fingers away while splitting kindling with hatchet. Easily move small pieces of wood around. Well made. Sturdy.
