A8132 Dual Swing Gate Opener - Support All the Power Modes

I have installed 2 of these gate openers this year and am very happy with them. Instructions were clear and installation easy for DIY’ers. A strong product support group was easily accessed, friendly, and responsive for questions on installation or programming. Operation is smooth and quiet. Very happy with the quality and value for the money.

Easy to install. Worked well with our gate but then started having one side rebound when trying to open or both sides not opening correctly. Did trouble shooting on our own but still not working. Was intimidated by contacting Topens due to having to communicate only thru email but once we did it was the best customer service. Bella communicated very quickly every time, gave us great detailed trouble shooting ideas and was very polite and understanding. And when it was discovered one of the actuators was defective then Topens made it right and shipped us a new one right away. Would recommend using this product and company (and if you are needing assistance hopefully you are able to connect with Bella).

This Topens gate opener was not difficult to install. I installed the system from scratch, with my wife as my helper. I do have knowledge of electrical wiring. The manual was easy to follow and the installation video was very helpful. After installation of the gate opener I had a problem. The gate would open on command but returns to half open position after stopping at the fully open position. I wrote to Topens for technical assistance. Bella responded and the recommendation to repair was spot on. I appreciate your help Bella. The gate is now working fine, we are happy and it was not expensive.

Compared with Mighty Mule, which I have previously installed several times, this Topens is finicky and cheaply designed. The power supply and control board are in separate boxes, and need to be wired together. They sent one 12 V battery, even though they know it needs two 12 V batteries, since it runs on 24 V. And there is no enclosure provided for the batteries, so I had to make one myself! It is difficult to set up, since the open and close stops are mechanical rather than electronic. It is unreliable, sometimes not responding to the remote. I have spent at least five times as long working on it than on a comparable two gate Mighty Mule system. Bad News!

The gate opener works well and was easy to install overall. I had an issue during setup, but TOPENS customer support was very responsive and helped me troubleshoot until everything was working correctly. They answered my questions quickly and stayed with me until the problem was resolved. I’m happy with the product and the customer service.

I have used Topens opener for years. This set is a heavy duty one with strong arms. Generally speaking I like Topens products. The only issue is the control board which failed twice. The first failure was caused by lightning. The second failure was with an unknown reason. But Topens support mailed to me a new control board for free replacement in two days.

First off, I’ll say that installing them does take so know how. I’ve been an engineer for 30+ years and nothing can stump me! Everything arrived on time and in the box. Electronics are very straight forward! Directions were great! No issues pairing the key chains! Easy to adjust all the settings two make the gates open and close to exactly the way I want. The install went as planned except for a few things. They supply you with two lengths of brackets for setting the geometry. One is about 6” from center and the other is 4”. My gate had to be 5” to work. Not a problem for me as I cut them down, welded them and all is good. Biggest complaint is when the motors are extended all the way to open the gates, they have a good bit of slop in them. My guess is they have a poor design of bushings and probably shortened the arms for a better universal fit. When I checked how much the arm had left before it ran off the threads it was about two turns/ about two full threads. That’s a concern! At this point the arms are sloppy! Next is the pins that hold the motors to the mounts. 1/2” standard pins measure fine. About .002” of an inch small. The holes in the brackets and about .005” over because they stamp the hole instead of machining them. This give a total of .014” slop per side. This problem makes the gate’s sloppy in the wind. I have found my own fix for this, but it cost me $30. Overall, if the mechanical mechanism in the motors hold up I’d give it “5” stars. The gates are used at least four times per week. I will update this post in a year after having better data on how they do!! 1/31/2024

I purchased a Topens dual arm gate opener model # A8132 and a Topens TC188 wireless key pad. I installed it myself and had no problems following the well written instructions. I did have a problem with the in-put of the entry code into the control panel, but with the help of excellent customer service I was able to solve the problem as I was in-putting the code numbers too slowly. I would highly recommend these Topens products and Julie, from customer service provided first class service! Thanks, Ken

We bought and installed the Topens A8132 Dual Swing Heavy Duty Gate Opener a little over a year ago and are very happy with it. We installed it in one day using the 24 volt system (using 2 12 volt RV batteries and a solar panel) and were surprised how well in worked during the winter with temperatures dropping to -35C. Topens were also very helpful when I recently had to make some adjustments to get one side to open and close properly after an animal had chewed through the wires to one side and I had to splice them back together. We also found the price very reasonable and will definitely recommend to anyone wanting to install a gate opener themselves.

I bought the heavy duty dual gate opener. It seems to be well built and pretty straightforward to install (although you have to add more wire to reach the motors from the controller and this requires soldering or some other connectors). Wiring the controller is awkward because you must remove the circuit board from its housing to reach the connection block; there’s no need for that layout. On the other hand, the hardware to hold the motors onto the gate is excellent, with options for different post types. One of the limit switches was faulty, but Bella in support was quick and friendly, sending a replacement immediately. It was a chore to swap out, but now it all runs well.

Gate opener was fairly easy to install. It did take a bit of time to align and fasten gate openers and make sure they opened far enough, and closed together evenly, but they work good with my 7x9 ft heavy (solid panel) gates. The motors don't seem to struggle at all with opening or closing considering the gates probably weigh 300 plus lbs each. Price point is great compared to other brands and I like the options with this model to run on AC, or DC (24volt). I have stable AC power nearby, but will connect 2 -12 volt batteries in series to operate the gates in case power goes out. Comes with 2 key fob openers, but I also purchased the wifi remote TC196 so I can connect and control who comes and goes into my property. Would recommend this product to anyone looking for gate openers.

We have done dozen of gates. From 5 to 8 thousand dollar installs to less expensive ones. I was impressed with the quality of this product from the moment you open it. Solid and well engineered. Installation was pretty easy with only one issue. I worked with Lori at Tech and determined that there was a faulty limit switch. The switch was sent out overnight and solved the issue. I was happy with the product but impressed with the companies immediate support. I would recommend the product.

I had high hopes for the TOPENS A8132 Gate Opener. Let’s just say, it’s an experience you won’t forget (mainly because your gate will never close reliably again). This opener is listed a being heavy duty, so I had a huge surprise when I found the actuators are made with a plastic ACME nut. Plastic! This thing can't withstand a gentle breeze on a 10 foot, 185lbs gate, let alone a proper gust of wind. The slightest force and these actuators turn into wobbly noodles. But wait, there's more! Fresh out of the box, I followed all directions and had to contact support when the gate would not operate correctly. After hours of troubleshooting, Topens diagnosed the opener with faulty circuit boards. Brand new, and already broken. Topens sent me a second circuit board, only to find out that it was also faulty . Support was quick to diagnose the new problems, which was both impressive and depressing. Impressive because they knew exactly what was wrong, and depressing because this happened in the first place. After replacing the circuit board a third time, the gate functioned OK for two days…, Then it started to have a mind of its own. Sometimes it refuses to close, leaving one gate awkwardly ajar. Other times, it will open halfway and just stop. I'm left sitting in my truck, wondering if I should nudge it with my bumper or just give up and climb over the fence. In short, the TOPENS A8132 Gate Opener is a masterclass in frustration and poor workmanship. It’s not worth the money, the headaches, or the constant calls to support. Save yourself the trouble and invest in something more reliable, like a sturdy rope to pull your gate open manually.. which is what you will be doing with this opener. Trust me, it will save you a lot of grief and it will provide a better workout. Overall, I am very disappointed in this system.
