Wish I could have given it a try.
The allen screw that was supposed to hold the spike in didn't, It's either missing a piece or manufactured wrong (it should be one solid forged piece anyway) and from an independent contractor that has done flooring for 25 years- it would be hard to believe the all around construction of the product would handled the appropriate torque of the stretch without bending the spike or damaging the sub-floor and/or carpet. I may have tried it on a circular landing (such as around a staircase) where all you have are spindles to go off of but with the way it came I couldn't even do that.Very disappointed Robert's not what I expected from you.

Saves time
I have owned more than 3 of these all different brand's and they all had set screws to hold the spike in. Which is good because after about 3 year's of heavy use it finally broke I tried to replace it with a piece of steel similar but the steel I used kept bending. Apparently the spike that comes with it is hardened steel. Theses work great especially when there is furniture in the way or when you don't have enough stretcher tubes. I have no idea why someone would try to use it on a staircase even a landing with spindles. Seems like overkill but if it will fit I'd probably use it to save wear and tear on my body. Bottom line is buy it you will love it just be careful that your not damaging the underlayment or sub floor and don't use it on Berber or a looped carpet(I have used it successfully on both)
